Connect the Linkage Arms Connect the Linkage Arms Connect the linkage arms as shown in Figure 3-9. Figure 3-9 Connecting the Linkage Arms Adjust the Sensor and Linkage Arms To adjust the sensor and linkage arms: 1. Make sure the linkage arms never fully straighten or cross over when the wheels are turned to hard left and hard right. 2. Leave the wheel angle sensor bolts protruding down to act as limits for the sensor arm but ensure the sensor arm never touches them. 3. After the wheel angle sensor and linkages have been installed, slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while observing the linkages. The linkages should move freely without interfering with the steering cylinder or other parts of vehicle. Adjust the linkage lengths as necessary to avoid interference. 4. After installation is complete you should check the wheel angle sensor performance with either the "Examine Steering" screen or the "Calibration Wizard" in A5 systems or the "Steering Diagnostics" screen in FarmPro systems. 5. If you slowly turn the wheels from hard left to hard right the sensor counts observed on screen should increase or decrease smoothly and consistently all the way through the range swept out by the wheels. The sensor counts should never reach zero and should never stop counting at the high end of the scale before the wheels hit the stops either. If either of these symptoms occurs you may need to rotate the sensor within its aluminum body. Make sure the linkage arms do not fully straighten or cross over when the wheels are turned hard left and right. Note: This step is done after final assembly during the calibration and tuning steps. 14 AutoFarm GPS AutoSteer

10 Hydraulic System Startup This Hydraulic System Startup chapter contains information in the following sections: Functional Test Adjust the Load Sense Relief Valve Functional Test Functional Test 1. Install a 5000 psi pressure gauge on the pressure line between the pump and the orbitrol or between the orbitrol and the AutoFarm valve. See Figure Note: If the vehicle s steering pump already has a diagnostic port, you can use that port for installing your pressure gauge to measure pump pressure. Figure 10-1 Installing the 5000 PSI Pressure Gauge on the Hydraulic Pump 2. Follow the steps listed below to perform a first functional test: e. Turn the starter motor momentarily to turn the engine without actually starting the engine and observe the pressure reading on the gauge. The pressure should not go above 1200psi when you turn the engine momentarily. If you see a pres- Hardware Installation Guide 65

Adjust the Load Sense Relief Valve sure spike above 1200psi, do not start the engine and verify all hose connections to determine if they are connected correctly. Correct any wrong hoses before repeating the process of turning the engine. f. If the pressure appears to be low when you turn the engine momentarily, repeat the process two more times by turning the ignition key momentarily to turn the engine without starting. This will help eliminate air in the hoses g. If the pressure reading continues to be low, you may start the engine normally. Turn off the engine immediately if you notice a pressure spike. h. With the engine running, turn the steering wheel right and left and see if the wheels turn in the correct direction. If the wheels turn in the opposite direction, some steering hoses might be inverted on the AutoFarm valve or on the orbitrol. Check all steering hoses. Check for leaks on all hoses. i. Immediately check for leaks once the engine has been started. Adjust the Load Sense Relief Valve The LS relief valve must be adjusted after the complete AutoFarm system has been installed. Follow the instructions below to adjust the relief valve. See Figure Install a 5000psi pressure gauge on the pump diagnostics port. 2. Turn on the engine and observe the pump standby pressure. Typical standby pressure is around 300psi. 3. Turn the steering wheel slowly until the wheels hit the stops and stop turning. Turn the adjustment screw on the relief valve counterclockwise until you notice a drop in the pump pressure. 4. Slowly turn the screw on the relief valve clockwise using a hex key and observe the increase in pump pressure. Stop turning the screw when you observe that the pressure stops increasing. This will be your final adjustment. 5. Tighten the jam nut on the adjustment screw to maintain the adjustment. 6. Turn the wheels against the stops in both manual steering and in AutoSteer using the Examine Steering screen. The maximum pump pressure should be about the same for both manual steering and AutoSteer. Typical maximum steering pressure on this machine is around 2500psi. 7. The objective is to adjust the AutoFarm relief valve to a pressure that is slightly higher than the original LS relief valve on the machine. The relief valve protects the pump when AutoSteer turns the wheels against the stops. 8. Steering will be sluggish if the relief valve is adjusted too low. 66 AutoFarm GPS AutoSteer

Functional Test Figure 10-2 Adjusting the Load Sense Relief Valve adjustment screw relief valve Functional Test 1. Check the correct operation of the AutoFarm hydraulic installation by measuring the pump s standby pressure and maximum pressure while in AutoSteer mode. In Table 10-1 are some typical pump pressures that you should expect. The standby pump pressure should be low and the maximum pump pressure should be high. Standby pressure is measured with the engine running and AutoSteer not turning the wheels. Maximum pressure is measured with the engine running and AutoSteer doing a 100% turn against the stops. Table 10-1 Typical Pump Pressures Engine rpm Standby Pressure Maximum Pressure Idle ~350 psi ~2000 psi 2. Calibrate and tune the AutoSteer system in an open field following the on-screen instructions 3. Drive the sprayer in an open field with AutoSteer engaged and check the steering performance and boom controls. Hardware Installation Guide 67

11 Safety Warning Label Installation This Safety Warning Label Installation chapter contains information in the following sections: Install the Safety Warning Label in the Cab Install the Safety Warning Label in the Cab Install the safety warning label provided with your kit in the cab on the left side of the right window as shown in Figure Figure 11-1 Installing the Safety Warning Label This warning recalls to the operator that you must never drive on roads or public areas with the GPS steering system turned on. Note: For an A5 system, shut down the A5 user terminal (exit the program) and press down the blue kill button located on the top left corner of the terminal to prevent the accidental engagement of GPS steering and loss of vehicle control while driving on roads. Hardware Installation Guide 69

Install the Safety Warning Label in the Cab Note: For a FarmPro system, shut down the system using the on-screen power button or the blue power button located on the bottom of the terminal to prevent the accidental engagement of GPS steering and loss of vehicle control while driving on roads. 70 AutoFarm GPS AutoSteer

12 Final Checklist 1. Check if all the hoses have been connected to the correct points on the AutoFarm steering valve and on the vehicle. Refer to the diagram in Figure 7-2 on page Inspect all the hose connections and ensure they are tight. 3. To prevent the hoses from being damaged, ensure all hoses are routed away from moving parts or hot parts. 4. To prevent the hoses from over-extending, ensure the hoses connected to the steering cylinders have enough free-play. 5. Check if all hoses are secured with heavy duty nylon cable ties in a protected position. 6. Power-up the vehicle and check for hydraulic leaks CAUTION Be sure, you performed the hydraulic system startup before powering up the vehicle. A problem in the hose connections can cause severe pump damage. Refer to the Hydraulic System Startup chapter on page Check manual steering. 8. Power up the AutoSteer system and begin the calibration and tuning process. Hardware Installation Guide 71
