The SG1000A is a rugged encoder-based sensor that accurately monitors a slide-gate or valve position, allowing for precise product flow and blending operations. Once programmed for the application s fully-closed/ fullyopen positions, the SG1000A s output is 4 ma for fully-closed and 20 ma for fully-open. Any gate or valve position between the two end-point positions is represented by the output signal being proportionally between 4 and 20 ma. The SG1000A s 4-20 ma output can be sent to a device such as a PLC or Electro-Sensors optional TR400SGA Remote Display to provide the operator with immediate at-a-glance information on the position of the gate or valve. The TR400SGA can be programmed to display from 0 percent at the fullyclosed position through 100 percent at the fully-open position. The TR400SGA offers +24 VDC output power for the SG1000A, two relays, and an isolated 4-20 ma proportional output that can be used to pass the 4-20 ma signal along to another device. Principle of Operation The SG1000A Slide Gate/Valve position sensor mounts directly to the end of the drive shaft of a slide gate or valve and is easily calibrated with a single push-button switch for setting the application s fully-closed/fully-open positions. A second switch (selects clockwise/ counterclockwise rotation) enables the user to mount the SG1000A on either end of the application s drive shaft. As the drive shaft rotates, the SG1000A measures the rotation and outputs the 4-20 ma signal to a PLC or the Electro-Sensors optional TR400SGA Remote Display. The SG1000A s output signal is 4 ma for fully-closed and 20 ma for fully-open. Any gate or valve position between the two end-point positions is represented by the signal being proportionally between 4 and 20 ma. Housed in an explosion proof enclosure, the SG1000B is typically used to measure position of gates that have a repetitive linear movement, providing independent and accurate feedback via a 4-20 ma signal. To achieve this measurement, the SG1000B uses a telescopic arm to convert linear into angular movement and measures the arm s angle to determine the linear position. The optional TR400SGA Remote Display can provide +24 VDC power to the SG1000B and can display the SG1000B s 4-20 ma signal as a percentage between fully-closed (0%) to fullyopen (100%) allowing the gate to be accurately monitored and positioned when regulating the fl ow of products. The TR400SGA also has two relays and a 4-20 ma proportional output Principle of Operation The SG1000B has two modes: calibration and normal operating. A simple calibration procedure programs the SG1000B with encoder values corresponding to three unique telescopic-arm positions along the process s linear travel. Once programmed the SG1000B outputs a 4 ma DC signal when the encoder is at one end of the calibration span (gate fully-closed) and outputs a 20 ma DC signal when the encoder is at the other end of the calibration span (gate fully-open). When the encoder is at any mid-span position (gate between fully-closed and fully-open) the SG1000B outputs a signal that is proportionally between 4 and 20 ma. A typical application of the SG1000B sensing the position of a linear driven slide gate. Since the SG1000B is not dependent on how a slide gate is driven, it can also be used to measure the linear position of a rack-and-pinion driven slide gate. In either case, the SG1000B measures the telescopic arm s angle to determine the gate s linear position. It is an encoder-based position sensor providing a 4-20 ma output and is used to measure processes or operations that have a repetitive single turn clockwise or counter clockwise rotary movement. Common Applications A typical application of the SG1000C is to sense the chute position of a rotary grain distributor. The SG1000C enables the end-user to very accurately monitor shaft position, enabling accurate process control. The SG1000C can also be used in other applications where a single-turn position needs to be monitored. Principle of Operation The SG1000C has two modes: calibration and normal operating. A simple calibration procedure programs the SG1000C with the encoder value corresponding to the 0 (home) position along the process s rotary travel. Once programmed, the SG1000C outputs a 4 ma DC signal when the encoder is at the 0 (home) position and outputs a 20 ma DC signal when the encoder is at the 359 (full-turn) position. When the encoder is at any mid-span position (between 0 and 359 ) the SG1000C outputs a signal that is proportionally between 4 and 20 ma.
