3 Available in portable or wall mounted options, these systems exceed the requirements of AS/ NZS1715 with regard to particulate removal and oil carryover. Filter Housing Installation Breathing Air Filters should be installed downstream of any aftercoolers or receivers, at the point of lowest operating temperature and as close to the point of application as possible. Existing or new pipelines should be purged to remove any collected debris, filters are best utilized on mainline or terminal points, avoid bypass lines where leaks often occur. Assembly of pressure equipment and putting into service: Select position for filters. It is vital to depressurize new or existing pipework before installation. Install filter into pipeline observing vertical orientation and direction of flow arrow marked on the filter housing. PTFE tape or sealing compound should be used on pipe threads to ensure a good seal. To allow simple element replacement ensure adequate space for removal of filter bowl. During initial pressurization of the system, inlet valves should be opened slowly to reduce inlet velocities until system pressures are stabilized. Check for leaks before putting filters into operation. Maintenance Good maintenance and routine checks should be carried out to ensure correct operation and to maintain long term system reliability. Note: there are no moving or replaceable parts for Water Separators (WS) Filter element replacement Coalescing filter elements (X1 & XA); will operate indefinitely if they only remove oil. The pressure differential across the element will increase slowly as the elements remove solid and particulate matter. This should be monitored on the pop-up indicator on top of the filter and is indicated by the green section becoming red. To ensure system reliability these filter elements should be changed every 8000 hours or 12 months, whichever is soonest. Activated carbon filter elements (AC) will purify compressed air by removing oil vapour and odours. They must be changed to suit specific applications or every 1000 hours or 6 months, whichever is soonest.
4 Warning AC elements do not remove carbon dioxide (CO2) or carbon monoxide (CO) or other toxic gases and fumes. Filter element installation guide Shut of all compressed air supplies to the filter system. Ensure that the system is fully depressurized Leave valve override open until all pressure in the filter housing and bowls is removed. For filters with float operated drains (WS, X1, XA), stand clear and depress manual override located in the centre of the autodrain. After all pressure is removed from the filter(s), grasp filter bowl firmly, turn bowl anticlockwise to unscrew. Strap wrenches can be used on all bowls. Remove used element by pulling the element downwards (and dispose of the element properly taking all the necessary health and safety precautions). Check housing O-ring in filter head. Replace if worn or damaged. Ensure O-ring seat is clean. Fit new elements with O-ring supplied, check that the O-ring is correctly positioned in end cap and lubricate threads with a light silicone free grease. This allows the bowl to be removed easily during next service. Place filter bowl over element, screw into head and tighten. Do not over tighten. Close valve on automatic or manual drain valve equipment. 10. Slowly open inlet and outlet valves and repressurise system. Check for leaks immediately. If leaks occur, de-pressurize system following earlier instructions and inspect filter housing and internal O-ring seals. Re-fit the O-ring checking that the seat is clean. Repressurise the system Note: Duplex filters contain an XA element in the bottom filter bowl and an AC element in the top filter bowl.
