These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 2. Remove the driver s dashboard under cover. KNOB Turn. 6 12. Remove the left floor carpet cover. 15. Press the center of the hook and remove the hook from the left rear side trim panel. 2 RETAINING TABS LEFT FLOOR CARPET Press the center to remove. 3 S HOOK LEFT REAR SIDE TRIM LEFT REAR SEAT Q0D0107AE 13. Gently pull the lever on the left rear side trim panel and use a small flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with a shop towel, to remove the inner handle cap. 16. Remove the tie-down hook. 7 17. Pull away the weatherstrip from around the left rear side trim panel at the tailgate, and remove the door opening seal at the left rear door. Starting at the front, release the left rear side trim panel. 19. Pull away the door opening seal from around the left D-pillar trim. WEATHERSTRIP Pull away. 7 RETAINING TABS 6 S Strike perpendicularly to the vehicle. DOOR OPENING SEAL Pull away. LEFT D-PILLAR TRIM DOOR OPENING SEAL Pull away. LEFT REAR SIDE TRIM Q0N2907BE 18. Release the wire and remove the left rear seat release lever, then remove the left rear side trim panel. WIRE 5 RETAINING TABS 2 S LEFT D-PILLAR TRIM RUBBER MALLET SHOP TOWEL Q0N2909AE 20. Using a rubber mallet wrapped with a shop towel, lightly tap the area marked SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG on the left D-pillar trim to push in the clip. 8 21. Remove the left D-pillar trim. 24. Remove the right rear wheel arch protector. WEATHERSTRIP Pull away. 10 S RIGHT REAR FENDER 6 S LEFT D-PILLAR TRIM RETAINING TAB Q0N2910AE 5 S RETAINING TAB RIGHT REAR WHEEL ARCH PROTECTOR Q0D2002BG 22. Open the right rear door. RIGHT REAR WHEEL ARCH PROTECTOR 25. Remove the left rear wheel arch protector the same way. 26. On each side of the vehicle, apply masking tape to the rear bumper, right taillight and right rear fender as shown. RIGHT TAILLIGHT RIGHT REAR FENDER MASKING TAPE 2 SCREWS Q0D2001AG 23. 9 27. Remove the rear bumper. Remove the two covers, two bumper screws, two bolts, two screws, and five clips. 2 S On each side, release four retaining tabs. REAR BUMPER Q0D0203AE With the help of an assistant, remove the rear bumper. Place the rear bumper on a blanket after removal. 10 28. Remove the rear under cover. Installing the Trailer Hitch 30. Loosely install the trailer hitch on the vehicle frame with six 10 mm plain washers, six 10 mm spring washers, and six 10 x 40 mm hex bolts. FRAME REAR UNDER 3 BOLTS QA11802AX 29. Remove the two muffler bushings from the vehicle pins. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the muffler. PIN BUSHING 6 HEX BOLTS, 10 x 40 mm Loosely install. 6 PLAIN WASHERS, 10 mm 6 SPRING WASHERS, 10 mm TRAILER HITCH QA11803BX 31. Loosely install the center plate to the trailer hitch with two 12 mm plain washers, one 12 mm spring washer, one 12 mm hex nut, and one 12 x 50 mm hex bolt through the tow hook. TRAILER HITCH BUSHING MUFFLER QA22501AX HEX NUT, 12 mm TOW HOOK SPRING PLAIN WASHER, WASHER, 12 mm 12 mm CENTER PLATE HEX BOLT, 12 x 50 mm Loosely install. 11 32. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the order of and. Torque the 10 x 40 mm hex bolts to 46 N m (34 lbf ft). Torque the 12 x 50 mm hex bolt to 79 N m (58 lbf ft). 2 HEX BOLT, 12 x 50 mm 79 N m (58 lbf ft) 34. Using a felt-tip pen, mark the rear under cover at the measurements shown. REAR UNDER FELT-TIP PEN 12 mm (0.5 in.) R10 30 mm (1.2 in.) 5 mm (0.2 in.) RIB VIEW CURVE END 5 mm (0.2 in.) RIB R10 14 mm (0.6 in.) 1 6 HEX BOLTS, 10 x 40 mm 46 N m (34 lbf ft) QA11902BX 33. Reconnect the muffler bushings to the vehicle pins. REAR UNDER QA11903BX 35. Using a pushpin, pierce the center of each mark made in step 34 on the rear under cover. REAR UNDER MARKS PUSHPIN 3 mm DRILL BIT DRILL 20 mm HOLE SAW QA01017AB 36. While wearing eye protection, drill each pierced mark on the rear under cover. 12 37. While wearing eye protection, use an air saw to cut the rear under cover at the mark made in step 34. Remove any burrs and sharp edges from the corners. 39. Using an air saw, cut the rear under cover at the mark made in step 38. Remove any burrs and sharp edges from the corners. AIR SAW AIR SAW Mark made in step 34. Mark made in step 38. 13 40. Using an air saw, cut the rear under cover along the scribe line as shown. Remove any burrs and sharp edges from the corners. NOTE: Some rear under covers may not have the scribe line. If not, use the measurements shown. Routing the Socket Harness 41. Secure the socket harness to the trailer hitch with two 6 x 40 mm flange bolts and two 6 mm flange nuts. REAR UNDER AIR SAW TRAILER HITCH Cut off. SCRIBE LINE REAR UNDER 2 FLANGE BOLTS, 6 x 40 mm 2 FLANGE NUTS, 6 mm TRAILER HITCH QA11908AX 42. Route the socket harness along the rear bumper as shown. 200 mm 120 mm 2 WIRE TIES WITH 200 mm 120 mm GREEN TAPE GREEN TAPE TRAILER HITCH BUMPER BEAM WIRE TIE QA11909AX 43. At the first green tape, secure the socket harness to the trailer hitch with one wire tie. At the next two green tapes, secure the socket harness to the vehicle panel with two wire ties with clip American Honda Motor Co., Inc. All Rights Reserved. AII (1509) 13 of 21

14 44. Route the socket harness as shown, and secure it to the hole in the bumper beam with one wire tie. ALUMINUM TAPE Clean with isopropyl alcohol. 47. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the aluminium tape will attach. Secure the socket harness to the vehicle panel with one additional aluminum tape. WIRE TIE BUMPER BEAM Align. QA11910AX 45. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the aluminium tape will attach. Secure the socket harness to the vehicle panel with one aluminum tape. 46. Remove the forward vehicle grommet from the vehicle panel, and route the socket harness through the hole. Seat the grommet on the socket harness to the vehicle panel hole. NOTE: Do not pull on the socket harness when installing the grommet. ALUMINUM TAPE Clean with isopropyl alcohol. QA12002AX 48. Inside the vehicle, secure the socket harness. 2WD vehicle: Route the socket harness as shown, and secure it to the vehicle panel with one wire tie. 15 4WD vehicle: Route the socket harness along the vehicle harness and secure it to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. 50. If the vehicle is equipped with a moonroof, install the drain clip to the control unit bracket. BRACKET WIRE TIE QA12004AX Installing the Control Unit 49. Install the control unit bracket to the control unit. CONTROL UNIT DRAIN QA12006AX 51. 16 If the vehicle is equipped with a moonroof, continue with step 52. Otherwise, go to step Release the drain tube. 56. Locate and unplug the vehicle 13-pin connector as shown. CONTROL UNIT BRACKET Slide. DRAIN TUBE DRAIN QA12008BX 53. Slide the drain tube as shown and secure it to the vehicle panel with the vehicle clip just moved. 54. Secure the drain tube to the control unit bracket with the drain clip. Routing the Control Unit Harness 55. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the fuse label will attach. Attach the 5A trailer small lt fuse label to the fuse case on the control unit harness. 13-PIN CONNECTORS QA12009AX If the vehicle is equipped with a accessory backup sensor, continue with step 57. Otherwise, go to step Unplug the vehicle 13-pin connector from the backup sensor harness 13-pin connector. 13-PIN CONNECTOR FUSE CASE 5A TRAILER SMALL LT FUSE LABEL Clean with isopropyl alcohol. 17 58. Plug the control unit harness 13-pin connector into the backup sensor harness 13-pin connector. 13-PIN CONNECTOR 60. Without backup sensor harness: Plug the two control unit harness 13-pin connectors in between the two vehicle 13-pin connectors. 13-PIN CONNECTORS BACKUP SENSOR 13-PIN CONNECTOR 13-PIN CONNECTORS QA60105AB 59. Plug the control unit harness 14-pin connector into the control unit. 63. Secure the control unit harness to the vehicle harness with three wire ties. ALUMINUM TAPE Clean with isopropyl alcohol. QA12103BX 65. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the aluminium tape will attach. Secure the control unit harness to the vehicle panel with one aluminum tape. 66. Secure the 4-pin connectors. 2WD vehicle: Plug the control unit harness 4-pin connector to the socket harness 4-pin connector and using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the aluminum tape will attach. Secure the 4-pin connectors to the vehicle panel. 3 WIRE TIES CONTROL UNIT QA12102AX ALUMINUM TAPE 4-PIN CONNECTOR 4-PIN CONNECTOR 4-PIN CONNECTORS Clean with isopropyl alcohol. 19 4WD vehicle: Plug the control unit harness 4-pin connector to the socket harness 4-pin connector and secure the 4-pin connectors to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. 70. Using a pushpin, pierce the center of the scribe mark on the left rear side trim panel. NOTE: Some left rear side trim panels may not have the scribe line. If not, use the measurement shown. LEFT REAR SIDE TRIM SCRIBE MARK WIRE 4-PIN TIE CONNECTORS 4-PIN CONNECTOR 4-PIN CONNECTOR QA12104BX PUSHPIN DRILL 3 mm DRILL BIT 20 mm HOLE SAW 67. Install the connector clip to the fuse case on the control unit harness. 20 mm FUSE CASE TRAILER UNIT 20 mm 71. While wearing an eye protection, drill the mark on the left rear side trim panel with a 3 mm drill bit. Enlarge the 3 mm hole to 20 mm using 20 mm hole saw. 72. Using a utility knife, cut the left rear side trim panel along the scribe line as shown. Remove any burrs. CONNECTOR FUSE CASE QA12106AX 68. Route the fuse case on the control unit harness as shown, and secure it to the vehicle panel with connector clip installed in step Secure the clip on the trailer unit harness to the vehicle panel as shown. 20 73. Under the dashboard, install the 7.5A fuse into the fuse box as shown. 76. Remove and discard the vehicle clip, and install the new clip to the left D-pillar trim. FUSE BOX VIEW NEW Discard. WITH SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG LEFT D-PILLAR TRIM Plug in here. FUSE BOX LEFT D-PILLAR TRIM Q0N3001AE 7.5A FUSE QA12401AX 74. With the help of an assistant, reinstall the rear under cover and the rear bumper. TRAILER HITCH HITCH PIN HITCH PIN 77. Check the overlap between the headliner and the D-pillar trim. NOTE: Check and adjust the overlap as described in the Service Manual. 78. Reinstall the left D-pillar trim. NOTE: Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked under the clip. Do not push the D-pillar trim excessively. 79. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 80. Reinstall all removed parts. 81. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 82. Press and hold the radio power button for two seconds to restore the radio and navi (if equipped) system functions. 83. Reset the clock. 21 Give a copy of this page to your customer Whenever you remove the hitch pin clip, the hitch pin, and the ball mount, store them securely in the cargo area. Install the receiver cover into the opening at the end of the trailer hitch. When you reinstall the ball mount, store the receiver cover in the cargo area. TRAILER HITCH Install the ball mount the trailer hitch using a hitch pin clip and hitch pin.
