3 Overview Prism TM470 Installation Guide for JBUS 1708 and 1939 The purpose of this document is to provide the installer with instructions on how to install the TM470. This document focuses on the installation and deployment of the TM470 interfaced with JBUS. JBUS is commonly found in SEA approved Diesel trucks starting in The TM470 supports 1708 and 1939 at the same time with its internal decoder. There is no need of mechanical configuration to select one protocol over the other. The type of diagnostics should be documented in order to configure the TM470 over the air. Functionally the TM470 is very similar to the TM450; the primary differences are the installation of the unit will always be placed in the driver side. Mechanically, the TM470 features a single connector (18 Pin). 4 Prism TM470 Installation Guide for JBUS 1708 and 1939 Differences between the TM450 and the TM470 The functionality of the TM450 and the TM470 are both very much the same, the main differences have to do with the cabling and the removal of the speaker output from the harness. 1) The smaller box now allows for transceiver placement under the dash. The gray extension cable is no longer used to extend the Y cable into the DB15 of the TM470. 2) There is only one connector into the TM470. The 18 pin Micro Fit contains all signals necessary to make the unit work. 3) Microphone and Speaker connections are no longer in the TM470 connector. The speaker is built inside the CTO5/7 4) CTO2 is not supported, the reason is the external speaker required to make it work, because the TM470 does not have a voice output and the CTO2 does not have a speaker built in, no voice feature is possible. Alternate Power Input In situations where the JBUS does not have power an alternate power input is supplied.

Only the Ignition wire is to be connected to a source of power. The ignition connection should be made to a source of power other than the Accessory. Alternate Power Input In situations where the JBUS does not have power an alternate power input is supplied. Disconnect the 3 PIN connector, located behind the DB15 JBUS Input, and connect the External Power Harness ( ). While it is not very common, some trucks pre 2001 only have Ignition power or simply no voltage at all. Teletrac Inc. Page 4

7 Antenna Prism TM470 Installation Guide for JBUS 1708 and 1939 The antenna features reduced profile FAKRA connectors will improve reliability and eliminates the possibility of over tightening of breakage. Connecting and disconnecting is done without tools. The TM470 does not support the legacy FAKRA connector, as it is 2 mm wider and does not plug in, all antennas being shipped by Teletrac starting 6/15 already have the reduced profile FAKRA plug. Antenna Placement Glass Mounted Combo antennas should only be mounted on the passenger side, right edge of the windshield. The Glass Mounted Combo antenna can only be used on vehicles with slanted windshields where the surface of the glass is angled at less than 60 degrees. Do not use on vehicles with racks that overhang the windshield. Hidden Antenna Placement In the Headliner The trim in the area the antenna is to be installed needs to be removed and the headliner lowered to accommodate the hidden antenna. Once the antenna is installed in the best location, affix a piece of doublesided tape to hold it in place. Verify the location of the antenna will not create a bulge in the headliner. In the Dashboard Antenna should be placed as high as possible in the dash with a clear view out the windshield with no metallic obstructions. Antenna must be secured in place to assure it does not move and degrade signal. Test the antenna prior to putting everything back together because some dashboards are made with carbon composites that will deteriorate the signal strength. Teletrac Inc. Page 5

8 Testing the Installation Prism TM470 Installation Guide for JBUS 1708 and 1939 Verifying that the installation is fully operational is the single most important part of the installation. Before you start the Installation Test, turn the ignition to the On position for 1 minute, and then turn it back to Off. Step 1: Once all power and antenna connections are complete, make sure the Transceiver is working properly. The easiest way to do this is using an MDT 955. Press <Control 1> to Display Radio Status, Confirm Registration and RSSI (>105) Confirm that the IP number displayed matches the paperwork. Step 2: Press <Control 2> in the MDT to confirm that: The number of satellites acquired is greater than 5, and The SNR is greater than 33. Confirm that date and time are valid (the time reflected will be GMT 5 to 8 hours of your local time). Step 3: MUST be completed for an installation to be completed! There are 2 possible ways to complete Step 3: Option 1 Use the eclient software Log into the customer s account in eclient on your laptop or another computer, and confirm that the IP you are working with is in the customer s account and is assigned to a vehicle. Once you have done this, perform a locate on the vehicle to confirm that the vehicle responds. Option 2 Check the customer s Detailed Report by logging into Select the vehicle from the Vehicles selection and run a Detailed report. Verify that data is coming in from the unit. Testing with the MDT only is not acceptable, you must call Teletrac for validation. Teletrac Inc. Page 6

The only exception is the CTO2 as there is no speaker output in the TM470 and the CTO2 does not have an internal speaker. CTO5 and CTO do contain internal speakers. All other sensors and switches are compatible. Prism TM470 The Prism TM470 is the latest GPRS mobile receiving and transmitting device in Teletrac's vehicle location system. The Prism TM470 operates on public GPRS networks.

These locations are stored in the Prism, so even if the unit is out of range from the dispatcher, a complete history (including vehicle speed, direction, ignition on/off and location) is stored and

10 Prism TM470 The Prism TM470 is the latest GPRS mobile receiving and transmitting device in Teletrac's vehicle location system. The Prism TM470 operates on public GPRS networks. It can be pinged on real time and respond with location and status information. The Prism TM470 receives constant location signals from the GPS network of satellites. These locations are stored in the Prism, so even if the unit is out of range from the dispatcher, a complete history (including vehicle speed, direction, ignition on/off and location) is stored and automatically sent to the dispatcher when the unit returns to the coverage area. This can be especially useful in tracking a vehicle during non-working hours or in case of the vehicle being stolen. In addition to generating the above signals, the Prism TM470 can also send and receive a variety of programmed input messages and messages from Teletrac's Message Display Terminal (MDT) or Color Touch Screen (CTO), including Long Inbound Messages. The Prism TM470 features built-in JBUS 1708 and 1939 CAN decoder for direct connection and improved performance. The Prism TM470 also supports Teletrac s OBDII interface to enable the reporting of valuable data such as fuel use, miles driven and other important parameters.
