3 Step 1 Parts & Tools Overview Getting Started Motorization with Remote Control First, make sure you have all the parts and tools required to install your shades. ALL THE HARDWARE YOU LL NEED: Pencil, screw-driver, ¼ nut driver, level, and a drill with a 1 16 drill bit. Then find wooden studs where you ll want to attach the brackets; if you need to mount your shades to wallboard or plaster, use a secure fastener designed for hollow wall applications. For metal surfaces, pre-drill holes and use the included screws. For concrete, stone, brick, or tile surfaces, use a masonry drill and appropriate plugs, anchors, or screws. Cassette It s important when selecting a fastener to make sure it s designed to support the weight of the shade. Follow the fastener manufacturer s instruction from there on out. 4 Step 2 Mounting Brackets Step 2 Mounting Brackets Shadings are shipped with the required number of brackets for proper installation. End brackets should be located approximately 3" from either end. Depending on the width of the shading, additional brackets may be necessary, evenly spaced between the two end brackets. Using the installation bracket as a template, measure to the edge of the bracket and mark the hole locations with a pencil for drilling. Brackets must be in line and level. Shim brackets on inside mounts if necessary. The headrail must be level for the shading to operate properly. BRACKET QTY SHADE WIDTH 2 up to 40" 3 401/8 72" 4 721/8 84" 5 841/8 and up Inside Mount Mount the brackets to the top of the window frame and 3" in from the edge of the window frame. The minimum mounting depth is 1". A minimum of 3 3 4" is needed to fully recess the shade. Make sure the brackets are aligned with one another. Attach each bracket using two screws. Make sure mounting surface is level " Outside Mount Center the shading over the window opening at the desired height. Mark the position of the ends of the headrail on the wall. Attach the mounting brackets to the wall, 3" in from the end, where your marks are on the wall. Make sure the mounting brackets are level with one another. Minimum mounting height is 1". If more brackets are required space them equally between the two existing brackets, making sure they are all level with one another. Attach each bracket using two screws. Spacer Blocks Outside Mount (Optional) Each spacer block projects brackets 3 8" away from mounting surface. Make sure the brackets are level and aligned. Attach using two screws. Screws should be long enough to secure the bracket to the mounting surface. Side Mount (Optional) Measure from window sill up to desired mounting position on each side of the window frame. Mark position. Mount Side Mount Brackets on each side of window frame as shown. Make sure to confirm that headrail will sit perfectly level. Once Side Mount Brackets are installed and properly positioned, attach the Brackets using the nuts and bolts provided. s 2" s Extension Bracket Extension Bracket Outside Mount (Optional) Optional Extension Brackets are used to project the back of the shading up to 2 1 2" from the mounting surface. Attach the mounting bracket to the extension bracket with the nut and bolt provided. 5 smithandnoble.com

5 Step 3 Hanging the Shade Step 4 Link the Remote Hanging the Shade With brackets installed, place the top of the headrail flat against the base of the mounting brackets. Push the headrail straight back into the brackets until it s fully engaged. The headrail will snap into place. Be sure the motor power wire is not pinched by the bracket. Removing the Shade To remove the shade, partially lower the shade and insert a flat head screwdriver as shown. Twist the screwdriver until the headrail disengages from the bracket. As you release the brackets, support the headrail to keep it from falling. Channel Display Up Stop/Favorite Down Channel + Channel Link the Remote Control For added protection, your remote control arrived with a protective film on the top. Please remove this film prior to use. The remote control has multiple channels. Before linking the remote, determine which shade(s) you want on which channel. The standard remote has 5 channels. All shades linked to the remote will also automatically be programmed to the "ALL" channel. 1. Press the SETTING button on the motor until the shade jogs once. Release the button immediately after the first jog this should not be more than 3 seconds. 2. Repeat this step for all shades that will be controlled by the same channel. 3. Select the channel that you want to program using the CHANNEL selector button. FRONT OF REMOTE 4. Press and hold the CONFIRM button until the shade(s) jogs once. The shade is now linked to the remote. 5. Repeat steps 1-3 to program the rest of the shades. 6 Step 5 Operating the Shade Step 6 - Advanced Programming (optional) Remote Control Select the desired channel with the CHANNEL key. The channel indicator light will illuminate the channel that is on. If all 5 lights are lit, the remote will control all 5 channels at once. Tapping the UP or DOWN keys for less than 2 seconds will move the shade in short steps. Holding the UP or DOWN keys down for more than 2 seconds before releasing, will operate the shade in the faster standard speed. Press the UP or DOWN keys to raise or lower the shade. Press the STOP key to stop the shade anywhere along FRONT OF REMOTE Channel Display Up Stop/Favorite Down Channel + Channel BACK OF REMOTE Setting (Red Button) Replace the Original Remote, Add Additional Remote or Add Shade to an Additional Channel 1) Press the SETTING button on the motor until the shade jogs once. Release the button immediately after the first jog this should not be more than 3 seconds. 2) Repeat this step for all shades that will be controlled by a single channel. 3) Select the channel that you want to program using the CHANNEL selector button. 4) Press and hold the CONFIRM button until the shade(s) jogs once. the window. Setting and Using a Favorite Position: 5) Repeat steps 1-4 to program the rest of the channels on a multi-channel remote. NOTE: When adding a favorite position to one shade, the other shades on that channel need to be temporarily unlinked from the remote. To unlink a shade, press and hold the SETTING button until it completes one jog - jog/jog cycle and then release the SETTING button. Repeat for all other shades on that channel. at least three seconds before pressing the STOP button. Limit Button Confirm Button Remove a Shade from a Remote or Channel and Link to a Different Remote or Channel 1) Press and hold the SETTING until it completes one jog-jog/jog cycle. 2) Release the SETTING button. The original remote or channels have been unlinked. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to position the shade at the desired favorite position. While holding the LIMIT button press and hold the UP button. Release both buttons when the shade jogs. When complete, relink turned off shades by following Step 4 - Link the Remote. With the shade at either the upper or lower limit, simply press the STOP/ Favorite button to bring the shade to the favorite position. To go to the favorite position from any other location, make sure the shade has been stopped for Changing a Favorite Position Unlink all other shades on the same channel before changing/erasing the favorite position. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to position the shade at the desired favorite position. While holding the LIMIT button quickly press and hold the UP button. Release both buttons when the shade jogs. To erase a favorite position, bring the shade to the upper limit. Press and hold the LIMIT button on the back of the remote, then press and hold the UP button. Release both buttons when the shade jogs. Link the motor to the new remote or channel. Follow the steps for replacing the remote above. 9 smithandnoble.com

7 Step 7 - Hold Down Bracket Step 8 - Skew Adjustment Attaching Hold Down Bracket (Optional) Skew Adjustment (If Necessary) Lower the shading, keeping the vanes closed. Place the magnetic hold-down bracket onto the bottom rail just inside the end cap. Bottom Rail If the fabric is moving to one side as the shade is raised up (skewing), first check that the installation brackets are level. Shim to level, if necessary. If the brackets are level it may be necessary to adjust the bottom rail weight. Hold the bracket while opening and closing the vanes (it may be necessary to have someone assist you). Adjust the bracket to the best overall position. Mark the screw location using the mounting options. The screw should be placed in the middle of the slot. This will allow for adjustment. Drill the screw holes using a 3 32" drill bit. IMPORTANT: Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall. Attach the hold-down brackets to the mounting surface using the screws provided. If necessary, adjust bracket height by loosening the screw and sliding the bracket up or down. s Hold-Down Bracket Hold-Down Bracket Adjust bracket height by loosening screw and sliding bracket up or down To release the weight clip, insert a flat blade screwdriver into the weight clip and turn clockwise. Move the weight in 1" increments toward the side where the fabric is gathering. Secure the weight clips in position by turning them counter clockwise after making the adjustment. Test and, if necessary, adjust again. If these suggestions don t work, then please give us a call or visit our website. Weight Clip Weight Weight Clip Fabric Roll Outside Mount Release Move Weight s Step 9 - Charging the Motor Recharging the Motor Inside Mount Preferred Alternate Shade Motor Charging Port When the shade begins to operate slower than normal it is time to charge the motor. Plug the 8.4v charger into the port motor. Plug the charger into an electrical outlet. Setting (Red Button) A red light on the charger indicates that the motor is charging. To fully charge the batteries, allow the batteries to charge for at least 1 hour after the light on the charger turns green. Preferred Alternate A typical charge cycle can take between 4-6 hours. 11 smithandnoble.com

8 Step 10 - Replacing the Battery Care & Cleaning/Safety Remote Remove the battery tray from the remote by inserting a fingernail into the indentation on the back of the remote. To avoid the battery falling out of the remote, remove the ray while the remote is face up. Insert the new battery (CR2430 lithium) into the battery tray so that the writing is facing up (positive up) when the remote is face up. Slide the tray back into the remote. ACCESS DOOR Care & Cleaning Minimal care and cleaning is needed to maintain the beauty of your shades. To Vacuum: Use a hand-held vacuum with low suction for a more thorough cleaning to keep your shades looking fresh and neat. To Dust: Use feather duster.fresh and neat. Safety First. Child Safety Troubleshooting PROBLEM SOLUTION The shade does not work or runs slowly. Recharge the motor. The shade only goes in one direction (up or down). The limit setting was unsuccessful and needs to be reset. Refer to the Motorization Guide. The indicator light on the remote does not shine or the remotecontrolling range becomes shorter. 14 Step 3 Connect the Wand Operating the Controls Plug the control wire into the wand wire. The plugs will only fit together one way. The wires are bundled at the back of the head rail. Step 4 Hanging the Shade Hanging the Shade With brackets installed, place the top of the headrail flat against the base of the mounting brackets. Push the headrail straight back into the brackets until it s fully engaged. The headrail will snap into place. Removing the Shade To remove the shade, partially lower the shade and insert a flat head screwdriver as shown. Twist the screwdriver until the headrail disengages from the bracket. As you release the brackets, support the headrail to keep it from falling. Up Stop/Favorite Down Wand Controls Tapping the UP or DOWN button for less than 2 seconds will move the shading in short steps. Holding the UP or DOWN button down for more than 2 seconds before releasing will operate the shading in the faster standard speed. Press the DOWN or UP button to lower or raise the shading. Press the STOP/ FAVORITE to stop the shading at the desired position. When the shading is fully lowered, tapping the UP button will close the vanes. Touch & Go Feature To fully raise or lower the shading, simply press the UP or DOWN button for 2 seconds and then release. The shading will automatically stop when it reaches the upper or lower limit. (If the upper or lower limits are not set at the desired positions, see the Adjust Motor Limits section on the next page) Please note: The factory set lower limit is the shading fully lowered with the vanes in the open position. Upper and lower limit stops are set at the factory. An intermediate or favorite position is not set at the factory. See page smithandnoble.com

15 Adjusting Shade Limits Adjusting Shade Limits Adjust Motor Limits (If Desired) The upper and lower limits stops have been set at the factory. If you need to make adjustments to the limits, follow the instructions below. Press the SETTING button on the back of the wand and hold it in until the motor stops beeping. This will clear both the upper and lower factory limits as the favorite if one was set. Set Upper Limit - Press the UP button to get the shade close to the desired upper limit and then press STOP button to stop the shade. Tap the UP or DOWN button to move the shade to the desired position. To save the location, press the SETTING button until the motor beeps. Set Lower Limit - Press the DOWN button to get the shade close to the desired lower limit and then press the STOP button to stop the shade. Tap the UP or DOWN button to move the shade to the desired position. To save the location, press the SETTING button until the motor beeps. Up Stop/Favorite Down Setting Button Setting Button Favorite Position Setting and Using a Favorite Position Use the UP or DOWN buttons to position the shade at the desired "favorite" position. First press and hold the SETTING button on the back of the wand. While holding the SETTING button, press and hold the UP button. Release both buttons when the shade beeps. With the shade at either the upper or lower limit, simply press the STOP/ FAVORITE button to bring the shade to the "favorite" position. To go to the "favorite" position from any other location, make sure the shade has been stopped for at least three seconds before pressing the STOP/FAVORITE button. Changing a Favorite Position - Use the UP or DOWN buttons to position the shade at the new desired "favorite" position. First press and hold the SETTING button on the back of the wand. While holding the SETTING button, press and hold the UP button. Release both buttons when the shade beeps. This establisheds a new "favorite" position and erase the old. 9 smithandnoble.com

17 Charging the Motor Battery Care & Cleaning Charging the Shade When the shade begins to operate slower than normal, or only beeps when you attempt to operate, it is time to charge the battery. Plug the 8.4v charger into the port on the wand. Plug the charger into an electrical outlet. A red light on the charger indicates that the battery is charging. To fully charge the batteries, allow the batteries to charge for at least 1 hour after the light on the charger turns green. A typical charge cycle can take between 4-6 hours.
