1 1. Attempt to start engine. If engine does not start, go to next step. If engine starts, go to step Turn ignition off. Disconnect connectors at Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located between driver's side front fender and 3. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at PCM connector terminal No. 46 (Red/White wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step If ignition was on when NO RESPONSE was displayed on scan tool, go to next step. If ignition was not on when NO RESPONSE was displayed on scan tool, turn ignition on and recheck display on scan tool. If NO RESPONSE is still displayed on scan tool, go to next step. 5. Turn ignition off. Substitute another scan tool cable. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If NO RESPONSE was displayed on scan tool, go to next step. If NO RESPONSE was not displayed on scan tool, replace original scan tool cable. Perform TEST VER-1A. 6. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to functional data link connector on another vehicle. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If NO RESPONSE is displayed on scan tool, go to next step. If NO RESPONSE is not displayed on scan tool, replace PCM on original vehicle. Perform TEST VER-1A. 7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect connectors at PCM. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and 8. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between cavity No. 6 (Light Green wire) on data link connector and PCM connector terminal No. 75 (Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit on Light Green wire between PCM and data link connector. Perform TEST VER-1A. 9. Ensure connectors are still disconnected at PCM. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and cavity No. 6 (Light Green wire) on data link connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Light Green wire between data link connector and PCM. Perform TEST VER-1A. 10. Ensure connectors are still disconnected at PCM. Ensure correct Pink wire is used when performing this step, as 2 Pink wires are used in data link connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between cavity No. 7 (Pink wire) on data link connector and PCM connector terminal No. 65 (Pink wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit on Pink wire between PCM and data link connector. Perform TEST VER-1A. 11. Ensure connectors are still disconnected at PCM. Ensure correct Pink wire is used when performing this step, as 2 Pink wires are used in data link connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and cavity No. 7 (Pink wire) on data link connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, it is determined that scan tool is the potential problem. Repair or replace scan tool as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Pink wire between PCM and data link connector. Perform TEST VER-1A. 12. Turn ignition off. Remove fuel pump fuse from power distribution center at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, near battery. See Fig Fuel pump fuse may also be referred to as fuel pump relay fuse or fuse No. 16. Check condition of fuel pump fuse. If fuel pump fuse is okay, go to next step. 2 Fig. 111: Locating Fuel Pump Fuse 13. Using voltmeter, check voltage at B+ cavity in power distribution center for fuel pump fuse. See Fig If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open circuit between fuel pump fuse and positive battery terminal. Perform TEST VER-1A. 14. Turn ignition off. Disconnect connector at throttle position sensor on throttle body. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) on connector for throttle position sensor. If voltage is 6 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 6 volts, repair open circuit on Black/Tan wires at PCM connector terminals No. 10 and 50 between PCM and ground. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and Perform TEST VER-1A. 15. Turn ignition off. Disconnect connectors at PCM. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and 16. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, check voltage at PCM connector terminal No. 20 (White/Black wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open circuit on fused ignition switch output circuit (White/Black wire) to PCM. 3 distribution center, and then to Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) No. 1 in junction block, located behind driver's side of instrument panel, to the left of steering column. PTC receives voltage when ignition is on through ignition fuse in power distribution center. Ignition fuse may also be referred to as fuse No. 23. Perform TEST VER-1A. 17. Turn ignition off. Remove fuel pump fuse from power distribution center at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, near battery. See Fig Fuel pump fuse may also be referred to as fuel pump relay fuse or fuse No Using voltmeter, check voltage at B+ cavity in power distribution center for fuel pump fuse. See Fig If voltage is 10 volts or less, test is complete. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open circuit on Red/White wire between fuel pump fuse and PCM connector terminal No. 46. Perform TEST VER-1A. 19. Turn ignition off. Remove fuel pump relay. Fuel pump relay is located in power distribution center at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, near battery. See Fig Fig. 112: Locating Fuel Pump Relay & Identifying Power Distribution Center Cavities 20. Disconnect connector at fuel pump module located on top of fuel tank. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Green/White wire between fuel pump relay and connector for fuel pump module. Replace defective fuel pump fuse. Perform TEST VER-1A. 22. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and cavity "B" in power distribution center for fuel pump relay. See Fig If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on wire between fuel pump fuse and positive battery terminal. Replace defective fuel pump fuse. Perform TEST VER-1A. 23. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect connector at throttle position sensor on throttle body. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) on connector for throttle position sensor. If voltage is 6 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 6 volts, repair open circuit on Black/Tan wires at PCM connector terminals No. 10 and 50 between PCM and ground. 5 24. Turn ignition off. Disconnect connectors at PCM. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and 25. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, check voltage at PCM connector terminal No. 20 (White/Black wire). 26. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace fuel pump and fuel pump fuse. Fuel pump fuse is located in power distribution center at driver's side front corner of engine compartment, near battery. Fuel pump fuse may also be referred to as fuel pump relay fuse or fuse No. 16. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open circuit on fused ignition switch output circuit (White/Black wire) to PCM. White/Black wire goes from PCM to power distribution center, and then to Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) No. 1 in junction block, located behind driver's side of instrument panel, to the left of steering column.
