Please take special note of the following warnings: 1. There is NO obstacle avoidance system included in the manufacturer s product. Therefore, users must always have an operator on the equipment when the AutoSteer system is in use to look for any obstacles including people, animals, trees, ditches, buildings, etc. 2. During installation of the AutoSteer system and during the Calibration and Tuning processes the vehicle s wheels turn from side to side and the vehicle moves. Be sure that all people and obstacles are clear of the vehicle before installation, calibration and tuning, or use of the AutoSteer system. 3. Use of the AutoSteer system is NOT permitted while the vehicle is on public roads or in public areas. Ensure that the system is OFF before driving on roads or in public areas. ii AutoSteer System

4 Safety Information Warning Alerts The AutoSteer system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following safety requirements: As the operator of the vehicle, you are responsible for its safe operation. The AutoSteer system is not designed to replace the vehicle s operator. Note: Verify all screws, bolts, nuts, hose connections, and cable connections are tight after the final installation of the AutoSteer system on the vehicle. WARNING To avoid electrical shock hazards, remove the Roof Module from the vehicle before driving under low structures or low electrical power lines. WARNING To prevent injury from falling, ensure you are in a stable position on the vehicle when installing or removing the Roof Rail and Roof Module. If the vehicle does not provide a safe platform, use a ladder to safely access the vehicle roof while installing or removing the Roof Rail and Roof Module. WARNING To prevent accidental death or injury from being run over by the vehicle, never leave the vehicle s operator chair with the AutoSteer system engaged. iv AutoSteer System

5 WARNING High-Pressure Fluid Hazard Read this manual before installation. Wear hand and eye protection while performing hydraulic system maintenance. Relieve hydraulic system pressure before servicing the hydraulic system. WARNING To understand the potential hazards associated with the operation of AutoSteer equipment read the provided documentation before installing the AutoSteer system on a vehicle. WARNING To prevent the accidental engagement of AutoSteer and loss of vehicle control while driving on roads, shut down the AutoSteer system (exit the program). Never drive on roads or in public areas with the AutoSteer system turned on. WARNING Do not stand close to the wheels and do not move the machine while you are adjusting the Relief Valve. Turn off the engine and engage the parking brake before standing under or next to the machine. Hardware Installation Manual v

6 Caution Alerts The AutoSteer system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following safety requirements: CAUTION The Roof Module must be removed when transporting or driving the vehicle at speeds above 30 mph (48 km/h). The Roof Module can possibly detach due to wind loads at higher speeds. CAUTION The AutoSteer system does not detect obstacles in the vehicle s path. The operator must observe the path being driven in order to avoid obstacles. CAUTION When engaged, the AutoSteer system controls only the steering of the vehicle. The operator must control the speed of the vehicle. CAUTION The AutoSteer system must be powered OFF when installing or removing the Roof Module. vi AutoSteer System

7 CAUTION The Roof Module must always be firmly secured to the Roof Rail using the hardware whenever the vehicle is in operation to prevent the Roof Module from releasing from its bracket and falling. Vehicle Requirements The vehicle steering and hydraulic systems must be in good working order before installing the AutoSteer system. Check for loose or worn parts. Before installing the AutoSteer system drive the vehicle and confirm that it steers straight and the wheels can be turned from lock to lock. Check the steering system hydraulic hoses and connections to ensure there are no oil leaks. The vehicle electrical system and battery must be in good working order. The vehicle should be fully cleaned before installing the AutoSteer system. A clean vehicle will improve the overall installation and cable routing and will also reduce the chance for oil contamination when the hydraulic connections are opened. It is important to clean the under the cab. Hardware Installation Manual vii

11 1 Installation Overview This Installation Overview chapter contains information in the following sections:. Installation for MacDon Vehicles Vehicle Preparation Installation Kit Components MacDon Kit Components Installation Procedure Outline Cable Diagram Installation for MacDon Vehicles A single hardware kit is used to install the AutoSteer system on multiple MacDon vehicle models. Every installation will leave some unused parts. A separate manual is provided for each model to ensure the correct parts are used. Make sure your vehicle is listed under Supported Models on the front cover of the manual that you are using. Vehicle Preparation The vehicle steering system must be in good working order before the AutoSteer system is installed. The hydrostatic pump and all steering bushings must be in good working order. Clean the vehicle around the hydrostatic pump, steering rods, under the frame and the cab to allow easier installation of brackets, hoses, and cables. Hardware Installation Manual 1

20 Complete Pintle Arm Sensor Installation Complete Pintle Arm Sensor Installation Figure 2-2 shows a complete installation. Figure 2-2 Complete Pintle Arm Sensor Installation Pre-Assemble the Pintle Arm Sensor 1. Attach the Pintle Arm Sensor to the Sensor Mount Support bracket using two bolts and nuts from the installation kit and tighten using a 3/8 wrench. 21 Pre-Assemble the Pintle Arm Sensor 2. Attach the Pintle Sensor Arm Bracket to the Pintle Arm Position Sensor bracket with two pan head screws from the installation kit. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to tighten. Verify the orientation of the bracket is as shown in Figure 2-4. Figure 2-4 Attach the Pintle Sensor Arm Bracket to the Pintle Sensor Mount Support Bracket 3. Attach a 5/16 Jam Nut from the installation kit and Ball Joint to both ends of the Linkage-Rod Link. Adjust the length of the entire assembly so it measures 9-1/4 (235 mm) from the center of one hole to the center of the other hole. Tighten the Jam Nut to the Ball Joint using an Adjustable Wrench and a 1/2 wrench. See Figure 2-5. 22 Pre-Assemble the Pintle Arm Sensor 4. Attach the Linkage-Rod Linkage Assembly to the Pintle Sensor Arm Bracket using one of the 5/16 bolts and lock nuts from the installation kit. Place a flat washer from the installation kit between the Pintle Sensor Arm Bracket and the Ball Joint of the Linkage-Rod Assembly. Use Figure 2-6 to determine which hole on the Pintle Sensor Arm Bracket to use for your vehicle. Figure 2-6 Vehicle-Specific Linkage-Rod Assembly Attachment Positions M100 M150, M Series 5. Verify the bolt and Pintle Sensor Arm Bracket are oriented as shown in Figure 2-7. Tighten the bolt with a 1/2 wrench and socket. 23 Pre-Assemble the Pintle Arm Sensor 6. Attach the Linkage Mount Support to the other end of the Linkage-Rod Assembly with the other 5/16 bolt and lock nut from the installation kit. Place a flat washer from the installation kit between the ball joint and Linkage Mount Support Bracket. Verify the bolt and Linkage Mount Support Bracket are oriented as shown in Figure 2-8. Ensure the Linkage-Rod is attached in the correct hole on the Linkage Mount Bracket Support. See Figure 2-9. Tighten the bolt with a 1/2 wrench and socket. 24 Install the Pintle Arm Position Sensor Install the Pintle Arm Position Sensor 1. Locate the Pintle Arms on the main pump beneath the vehicle on the middle, right side of the engine compartment. Remove the nuts from the rear Pintle Arm (leaving the bolts in place) and remove the rear nut and bolt on the front Pintle Arm using a 9/16 socket and ratchet as shown in Figure Figure 2-10 Remove Pintle Arm Nuts and Bolt Rear Pintle Arm Nuts Front Pintle Arm (Rear Nut and Bolt) 14 AutoSteer System

25 Install the Pintle Arm Position Sensor 2. Slide the Pintle Sensor Mount Support into place on the front Pintle Arm as shown in Figure Reinsert the bolt, attach the nut, and tighten. Verify the pump hose and fittings do not interfere with the sensor when the Pintle Arms move as shown in Figure The hose fittings may need to be loosened and realigned using a 1-1/4 wrench to prevent damage. 26 Install the Pintle Arm Position Sensor 4. Fit the Linkage Mount Support over the existing bolts on the rear Pintle Arm and reattach and tighten the nuts. See Figure Figure 2-13 Attach Linkage Mount Support 5. Verify all the bolts are tightened. 6. Verify no hydraulic hoses will interfere with the movement of the Pintle Arm Sensor Assembly. If necessary, adjust the location of the other hoses. 16 AutoSteer System

30 Complete Steering Cylinder Installation Complete Steering Cylinder Installation Figure 3-2 and Figure 3-3 show an example of a complete Steering Cylinder installation. Note: Figure 3-2 and Figure 3-3 show the hydraulic valve and hoses already installed. These components are actually installed later in the AutoSteer installation process. 31 Pre-Assemble the Steering Cylinder and Support Brackets Pre-Assemble the Steering Cylinder and Support Brackets 1. Attach the Ball Joint to the Cylinder Ball Joint Support with the 1/2 hex bolt and lock washer from the installation kit. Tighten the Ball Joint with a 3/4 socket so the hole is parallel with the two holes on the Cylinder Ball Joint Support. See Figure 3-4. Figure 3-4 Attach Ball Joint to Cylinder Ball Joint Support 2. Attach Cylinder Ball Joint Support Assembly to the Steering Cylinder with two 1/2 bolts and nuts from the installation kit. Verify the orientation of the support. 32 Pre-Assemble the Steering Cylinder and Support Brackets 3. Attach the Cylinder Rod Support to the rod end of the Steering Cylinder with a 1/2 hex bolt, lock washer, and nut from the installation kit. Place a flat washer between the Ball Joint and the Cylinder Rod Support. Verify the orientation of the support and tighten with a 3/4 wrench and socket. See Figure 3-6. Figure 3-6 Attach Cylinder Rod Support to the Rod End of the Steering Cylinder 4. Remove the plugs from the Steering Cylinder s hydraulic ports and attach the two elbows (see Table 5-1). Orient the elbows as shown in Figure 3-7 and tighten with an 3/4 wrench. Figure 3-7 Attach Hydraulic Elbows to Steering Cylinder 22 AutoSteer System

33 Install the Steering Cylinder 5. Attach the two steering hoses (see Table 5-1) to the elbows and tighten the hose connections with a 3/4 wrench. See Figure 3-8. Figure 3-8 Attach Hydraulic Hoses to Steering Cylinder Install the Steering Cylinder 1. Slide the side walkway back towards the engine to gain access to the chassis under the left cab. The locking mechanism is near the rear of the walkway as shown in Figure 3-9. Move the walkway backwards until it locks into the back position. 34 Install the Steering Cylinder 2. Verify the cab doors are closed before moving the walkway. Figure 3-10 shows the left walkway moved into the correct position. Figure 3-10 Walkway Moved to Rear Position 3. If the forming shield is installed under the vehicle: a. Remove the locking pin and washer holding the rear strap of the forming shield on both sides. The left-side connection is shown in Figure Figure 3-11 Remove Locking Pin from Rear Strap of Forming Shield 24 AutoSteer System

35 Install the Steering Cylinder b. Remove the two snap rings and pins holding the forming shield to the front part of the vehicle. The left-side connection is shown in Figure Figure 3-12 Remove Snap Rings from Front Pin of Forming Shield c. Lift the forming shield up from the front mounting pin, lower it to the ground, and then slide it to the back of the vehicle for the rest of the installation. 4. Locate the existing holes for mounting the Cylinder Base Support Mounting on the left side of the vehicle just under the front side of the cab. 36 Install the Steering Cylinder 5. Attach the Cylinder Base Support bracket using two 1/2 bolts and nuts from the installation kit. Verify the bracket is oriented as shown in Figure Tighten the bolts using a 3/4 socket and ratchet. Figure 3-14 Attaching the Cylinder Base Support Bracket 6. Slide the Cylinder Assembly under the cab and run the hoses out towards the back of the vehicle. Attach the Ball Joint of the Cylinder Assembly to the Cylinder Base Support with a 1/2 bolt, lock nut, and nut from the installation kit. Put the lock washer between the Ball Joint and the Cylinder Ball Joint Support. See Figure Figure 3-15 Attach the Steering Cylinder to the Support Bracket Lock Washer Location 26 AutoSteer System

37 Install the Steering Cylinder 7. Locate the existing holes for mounting the Cylinder Rod Support to the steering mechanism of the vehicle. Attach the Cylinder Rod Support from the Cylinder Assembly to the vehicle s steering arm with two 1/2 bolts and nuts from the installation kit. 38 Install the Steering Cylinder 9. Verify the hydraulic fitting at the rod end is rotated to point towards the base end; otherwise, the steering linkage will hit it when turned left. See Figure Figure 3-18 Verify Hydraulic Fitting Orientation 10. Verify all nuts and bolts are tightened on the Steering Cylinder Assembly. 28 AutoSteer System

Attach the Steering Valve to the Manifold Support Bracket using two 3/8 x 3.0 bolts and 3/8 nuts from the installation kit. Verify the Diagnostic port is pointed away from the Manifold Support Bracket. Orient the Steering Valve as shown in Figure 4-2. Verify all adapters are fitted to the correct port and oriented properly. The L and R ports should have 90 degree elbows facing away from the proportional valve and the P and T ports should have straight adapters. Tighten the nuts with a 9/16 wrench. See Figure 4-2. 41 Pre-Assemble the Steering Valve and SA Module 2. Attach the SA Module to the opposite side of the Manifold Support Bracket using four 3/4 screws and lock nuts from the installation kit. The head of the screws should be on the side of the SA Module and the nuts on the side of the Manifold Support Bracket. Verify the SA Module connector is on the side of the Manifold Support Bracket that has the two elbows as shown in Figure 4-3. Tighten the nuts with a 3/8 wrench. 42 Install the Steering Valve Assembly Install the Steering Valve Assembly 1. Locate the rectangular holes in the top of the cross-member in the front left corner under the cab. See Figure 4-4. Figure 4-4 Steering Valve Mounting Holes 2. Fit two 1/2 carriage head bolts from the installation kit in holes from Step 1. It will be tight manipulating them into place. Approach the holes from the side so the length of the rectangular hole makes it easier to get the bolts through. Attach the Steering Valve Assembly over the bolts and secure with two 1/2 nuts from the installation kit. Tighten nuts with a 3/4 socket and ratchet. See Figure 4-5. 48 Install the Hydraulic Hoses 3. Connect the 90 degree connector of the 47 hose to the T port on the Steering Valve as shown in Figure 5-5. Tighten the hose with a 3/4 wrench. Route the hose back and then out the access hole going through the frame of the vehicle and towards the Steering Valve block under the left side door walkway as shown in Figure 5-6. 49 Install the Hydraulic Hoses 5. Disconnect the hose with a 7/8 wrench. Have a bucket ready to collect oil that will leak when the hose is disconnected from the fitting. Oil will flow readily out this connector when it is disconnected, so quickly attach the -8 JIC Run Tee to the port. Connect the original hose back to the straight through port of the Tee and the new Tank/Return hose from the Steering Valve to the Tee port of the Tee. Tighten all hose connections using a 7/8 wrench for the original hose and Run Tee and a 1 wrench for the new hose connection. See Figure 5-7 for an example of the final assembly. 50 Install the Hydraulic Hoses 7. Route the hose back behind existing hoses and wires inside the frame to the pressure line near middle right side of the vehicle. See Figure 5-9. 51 Install the Hydraulic Hoses 9. Disconnect the 83 hose with a 7/8 wrench. Have a bucket ready to collect oil that will leak when the hose is disconnected from the fitting. Quickly attach the -8 JIC Run Tee to the port. Connect the original hose back to the straight through port of the Tee and the new pressure hose from the Steering Valve to the Tee port of the Tee. Tighten the original hose and the Run Tee with a 7/8 wrench and the new hose with a 1 wrench. See Figure 5-11 for an example of the final assembly. Double check all hose connections and confirm they are connected correctly at both ends. 11. Verify all hose connections have been tightened. 12. Secure hoses to vehicle frame with zip ties to prevent damage. 13. Start the vehicle and check for hydraulic leaks. Hardware Installation Manual 41

52 Adjust the Pressure Adjustment Valve Adjust the Pressure Adjustment Valve When the hydraulic installation is complete the supply pressure to the cylinder must be set to 150 psi. 1. Remove the plug from the Test port with a 1/4 Allen Key. See Figure Figure 5-12 Remove the Plug from the Test Port 2. Install the pressure test port coupler and tighten with an 11/16 wrench. 53 Adjust the Pressure Adjustment Valve 3. Attach a 500 psi pressure gauge. See Figure Figure 5-14 Connect Pressure Gauge 4. Remove the black cap and loosen the jam nut on the Pressure Adjustment Valve with a 9/16 wrench. See Figure Figure 5-15 Loosening Pressure Adjustment Valve Jam Nut 5. Put the transmission into Park position and turn on the hand brake. 6. Start the engine and adjust the engine RPM to 1500 rpm. 7. Immediately check for oil leaks on all hose connections that were opened. Hardware Installation Manual 43

54 Hydraulic Hose Installation Checklist 8. Adjust the Pressure Adjustment Valve using a 5/16 Allen Key until the pressure gauge reaches 150 psi. Turn the screw clockwise to increase pressure, counterclockwise to decrease pressure. See Figure Figure 5-16 Adjust Pressure 9. Once the Pressure Adjustment Valve has been set, hold the adjustment screw with the Allen Key and retighten the jam nut with the 9/16 wrench. 10. Remove your pressure gauge by sliding the sleeve on the quick coupler. 11. Leave the test port coupler installed on the Pressure Adjustment Valve if it does not interfere with other parts on the vehicle. Hydraulic Hose Installation Checklist 1. Steering Valve bracket bolts are tight. 2. Mounting bolts that secure the Steering Valve are tight. 3. Pressure hose is connected to correct port. 4. Tank/Return hose is connected to correct port. 5. Right Steer hose connected correctly at both ends. 6. Left Steer hose connected correctly at both ends. 7. Pressure Transducer installed and tight. 8. Checked all hose fittings are tight. 9. 55 6 Roof Module Installation This Roof Module Installation chapter contains information in the following sections: Safety Notes Roof Rail Installation Safety Notes The steering system must be powered OFF when installing or removing the Roof Module. The supplied locking pin must be in place whenever the vehicle is in operation. The Roof Module must be removed when transporting the vehicle at speeds above 30 mph (50 km/h). Ensure you are in a stable position on the vehicle platform when removing the Roof Module, so that you do not fall or drop the Roof Module. Use a ladder to install the Roof Rail Brackets. WARNING Ensure that you are in a stable position on the vehicle when installing or removing the Roof Rail and Roof Module so you do not fall. Roof Rail Installation 1. Place the ladder as close as possible to the side of the cab. Note: The ladder is necessary to install the Roof Rail and Roof Module. Hardware Installation Manual 45

56 Roof Rail Installation 2. The Roof Rail Mounting Brackets are installed on two pairs of bolts located near the middle and rear on each side of the vehicle s roof. The bolts pass through the roof to the inside of the cab and are held in place by lock nuts and washers from inside the cab. The lock nuts are accessed via plastic caps inserted in the ceiling upholstery. Figure 6-1 shows the plastic caps on the left side of the cab. Locate the four plastic caps. Figure 6-1 Access to Roof Bolts 3. Remove the four plastic caps using a flat head screw driver. Be careful not to damage the caps as they can be difficult to remove. See Figure 6-2. 57 Roof Rail Installation 4. Using a 3/4 wrench and 3/4 socket with extension, stand on the walkway and remove the two cab bolts on each side of the cab. The nuts can be very tight and may require the use of a breaker bar. See Figure 6-3. Figure 6-3 Remove Roof Bolts 5. Mount the Roof Rail Mounting Brackets on top of the existing washers and use the original bolts to hold them in place. The longer bracket goes on the right-hand side of the machine and is intended to carry the Main Cable Harness clear of the cab roof. Verify the brackets are oriented as shown in Figure 6-4. 58 Roof Rail Installation 6. Attach the Roof Rail to the Mounting Brackets with the supplied bolts. The supplied flat washer needs to be placed between the Roof Rail and the Mounting Brackets. Use a 8mm driver to attach the RAM Mount Ball with self-tapping screws as shown in Figure 7-1. Note: Alternative mounting locations can be used if the location shown is not available. Note: You should run the self-tapping screws in and out of the pillar once before attaching the RAM Mount Ball to prevent breaking the screws. 65 Prepare Cab Pillar for Cable Routing 2. Carefully pull back the foam upholstery from the front of the top right rear pillar to expose a punch out for a round hole. Use a hammer to knock out the punch out plate. If the vehicle was built before 2009, it will not have this punch out plate. In this case, use a 1-1/2 hole saw to cut this hole. Cut the hole as close to the top of the pillar as possible, but leave at least 3/8 of spacing from any edge. When cutting this hole, be careful not to damage the rubber tube inside the pillar when the saw cuts all the way through. See Figure 8-3. Figure 8-3 Top Rear Pillar Access 3. Examine the right rear pillar from the outside of the cab. Look for a punch out plate at the very top of the pillar behind the plastic overhang. If the punch out plate exists, use a hammer to knock it out. If the vehicle was built before 2009, it will not have this hole. Use the 1-1/2 hole saw to create it. Make sure the hole is 1/4 to 3/8 from the weld, as shown in Figure 8-4, because the cavity will be too small closer to the window. Starting from the outside of the vehicle with the Main Cable Harness, route the SA Module Data and Power connectors in through the hole in the pillar. See Figure 8-5. 70 Route the Main Cable Harness 9. Secure the Roof Module cable to the Roof Rail Bracket using cable ties. See Figure Figure 8-13 Secure Roof Module Cable 10. Attach the cable to the Roof Module. See Figure Orient the 12-pin connector so the word TOP on the cable connector is pointing upwards (towards the sky). Insert the cable connector into the Roof Module. Push the connector in until it clicks and locks in place. To remove, grasp the connector to compress the two side latches and pull away from the Roof Module. Note: Do not force the connector. 71 Power Connections 11. Attach the LAN connector to the Roof Module. See Figure Orient the Ethernet cable connector with the connector under the receiver so the contacts on the cable connector are pointing towards the back of the vehicle. (This will usually be towards your right side if you are standing on the left side of the vehicle and looking towards the Roof Module.) Slide the cable connector into the receiver and rotate the plastic bayonet sleeve clockwise to lock the connector. The bayonet sleeve will click when it fully engages and locks. To remove the cable, rotate the bayonet sleeve counterclockwise until it clicks and pull the connector down or away from the Roof Module. Note: Do not force the connector. If the connector does not engage easily, check for the correct orientation of the connector. Figure 8-15 Roof Module Ethernet Connection Power Connections The following sub-sections describe basic instructions for connecting the AutoSteer system to available vehicle power sources: Power Supply Connection Battery Power Connection Note: Refer to your Display user manual before connecting the AutoSteer system to vehicle power. On vehicles built in 2009 and later, there is a cable connector coming down from the center back of the cab under the vehicle. Route the Remote Switch cable from the SA Module Harness to this connector and attach it. 2. On vehicles built before 2009, the remote engage switch can be ordered from MacDon. Follow the AutoSteer TSB on this topic to install this attachment. Alternatively, the AutoSteer Remote Engage Switch can be ordered and attached to this cable as well. 3. 84 Install Grommets Install Grommets 1. Take one of the rubber grommets, cut a hole in it to match the Roof Module cable going out the back of the cab pillar, and insert it into the hole to prevent damage to the cable and prevent dirt from getting into the cab. Take another one of the rubber grommets, cut a hole in it to match the Main Cable Harness going into the top of the right pillar inside the cab, and insert it into the hole. 85 Install Grommets 3. Take the metal rectangle and fit it around the cables at the hole coming out at the rear shelf. Use a size 30 drill bit, " (3.26mm) to drill pilot holes into the rear pillar. Using the self tapping screws, attach the metal plate to the rear pillar. This plate turns the square hole into a round one. Take the last rubber grommets, cut a hole in it to match the Power supply cable going to the power outlet, and insert it into the hole.
