7 Safety precautions Always read this section before starting use. When designing and manufacturing a device using CKD products, the manufacturer is obligated to check that device safety mechanism, pneumatic control circuit, or water control circuit and the system operated by electrical control that controls the devices is secured. It is important to select, use, handle, and maintain the product appropriately to ensure that the CKD product is used safely. Observe warnings and precautions to ensure device safety. Check that device safety is ensured, and manufacture a safe device. WARNING 1 This product is designed and manufactured as a general industrial machine part. It must be handled by an operator having sufficient knowledge and experience in handling. 2 Use this product in accordance of specifications. This product must be used within its stated specifications. It must not be modified or machined. This product is intended for use as a general-purpose industrial device or part. It is not intended for use outdoors or for use under the following conditions or environment. (Note that this product can be used when CKD is consulted prior to use and the customer consents to CKD product specifications. 8 Pneumatic components Safety precautions Always read this section before starting use. Refer to Pneumatic valves Catalog No. CB-02SA for the general valves. Specific Precautions: Pilot operated 5 port valve W4G4 Series Design & Selection 1. Design for Safety WARNING Use the product in accordance of specifications. Products in this catalog are for use only in a compressed air system. Use with pressure or temperature exceeding the specification range may result in damage or operation faults. (Refer to the specifications). Consult with CKD when using fluids other than compressed air When using the -position valve all port block as a brake, operation will not stop at the precise position due to air compression. There will be air leakage if cylinders and valves are used for pressure holding applications, so the brake position may change or pressure may drop. Take measures to prevent harm to operators or objects if this product fails. 2. Common WARNING Do not block exhaust port of a manifold valve. Other cylinders could malfunction due to back pressure generated by switch valve exhaust. In this case, exhaust from both sides of the manifold or replace the valve that is causing a problem with a discrete exhaust valve with a spacer or install individually valve. CAUTION Keep momentary power on and limit manual operation of the double-solenoid 2-position valve to 0.1 seconds or longer. Note that the cylinder may malfunction depending on secondary load conditions, so power ON and manual operations should be continued until the cylinder reaches the stroke end. Use dry compressed air that does not cause condensation in piping. CAUTION Check leakage current to prevent malfunction caused by leakage current from other fluid control components. When using a programmable logic controller, etc., the solenoid valve could malfunction due to leakage current. The value affected by leakage current differs with the solenoid valve. Dryer Air filter PLC Drainage will form if the temperature drops in the pneumatic piping or pneumatic components. Operation faults could occur if drainage enters the air flow path in pneumatic components or if it temporarily blocks passage. Drainage could cause rust, causing the pneumatic device to fail. Explanation of test procedure and protection property symbols of IP65 Protective structure Note: IP-65 standard is tested as follows. IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards (IEC60529 (IEC529: )) IP- * * Protection property symbols (International Protection) The surge suppressor limits solenoid valve surge voltage, which can reach several hundred volts, to a lower voltage level withstandable by the output contact. Depending on the output circuit used, this may be insufficient and could result in damage or malfunction. Check whether the surge suppressor can be used by the surge voltage limit of the solenoid valve in use, the output device's withstand pressure and circuit structure, and by the degree of return delay time. If necessary, provide other surge measures. Solenoid valves with surge suppressors suppress the reverse voltage surge generated during OFF operation to the levels below. Alternating current voltage specifications CAUTION AC voltage specifications are built into all wave rectification circuits. Surge suppressor CAUTION Spray nozzle bore size: ø6.mm The surge suppressor included with the solenoid valve is to protect the output contact for that solenoid valve's drive. There is no significant protection for other devices in the area, and the surge may cause damage or malfunctions. Surge generated by other devices could be absorbed and cause damage such as burning. Care must be taken for points below. (output transistor protection circuit, parallel setting example 2) Reverse voltage malfunction OFF If another device or solenoid valve is connected in parallel to the solenoid valve, reverse voltage surge generated when the solenoid valve is off is applied to these devices. Even when using the solenoid valve with a 24 VDC surge suppressor, the surge voltage could reach several tens of volts depending on the model. This reverse polarity voltage could damage devices connected in parallel or cause them to malfunction. Do not connect components that is weak against reverse polarity (ex. LED) in parallel. When driving multiple solenoid valves in parallel, the surge from other solenoid valves could enter the surge suppressor of one solenoid valve with a surge suppressor. Depending on the current value, that surge suppressor could burn. When driving multiple solenoid valves with surge suppressors in parallel, surge current could concentrate at the surge suppressor with the lowest limit voltage and cause similar burning. Even if the solenoid valve type is the same, the surge suppressor's limit voltage can be inconsistent, and in the worst case, could result in burning. Avoid driving several solenoid valves in parallel. Solenoid valve ON Solenoid valve The surge suppressor incorporated in the solenoid valve shortcircuits often if damaged by overvoltage or overcurrent from a source other than the solenoid valve. If the surge suppressor fails, if a large current flows when output is on, the output circuit or solenoid valve could be damaged or ignite. Do not keep power on in a faulty state. Provide an overcurrent protection circuit on the power or drive circuit or use a power supply with overcurrent protection so that a large current does not flow continuously. 6. 10 W4G4 Series Design & Selection 7. Exhaust cleaner CAUTION Refer to "Pneumatic, Vacuum and Auxiliary Components " (Catalog No. CB-024SA-7) for details on exhaust filters. Installation & Adjustment 1. Common CAUTION Port indication Port positions such as 1P and 4A, etc., are indicated in accordance with ISO and JIS standards. Check the port symbol when piping to prevent reverse flow and etc. 2. Port filter CAUTION Port filter is used to prevent foreign materials from entering, to prevent problems in a valve. This does not improve the quality of the compressed air, so read Warnings and Precautions, then install, and adjust the filter accordingly. Do not remove or force the port filter. The filter could deform and result in problems. If contaminants and foreign materials are found on the filter surface, blow lightly, or remove them by tweezers, etc. Example of installing A/B port filter Apply adequate torque when connecting pipes to prevent air leaks and to protect thread. Tighten by hand at first, then tighten using tools so that screw thread is not damaged. Filter For female thread type. Exhaust cleaner CAUTION The exhaust cleaner must be facing the bottom when installed. During Use & Maintenance 1. Assembling & Disassembling CAUTION When assembling or disassembling valves, read the instruction manual of the product very well and understand the contents before disassembling and assembling the product. Understand the structure and operational principle of the solenoid valve to secure safety. Intro 7 2. Pneumatics pressure source CAUTION If a pre-lubricated valve is once lubricated, oil-free property can not be maintained. Once lubricated, continue lubricating. Pneumatic components are to be oil-free or to be lubricated. The user must decide the lubrication method and the lubrication must be done accurately When using a lubricant, only use ISO VG2 (additive-free) turbine oil.

The switch will not be released even when released. Push and lock operation Push down and rotate the manual button 90 degrees clockwise to lock. Confirm that there are no people near the moving cylinder when conducting manual operations. When using locking/non-locking common type manual override, always unlock before returning to normal operation to prevent malfunctions. Do not use damaged products. 2 During normal use Return the M7 switch to the original position. WARNING When conducting manual operations, make sure that there are no people near the moving cylinder. 6. How to replace cartridge joint CAUTION Check procedures before changing the push-in joint size. Problems such as air leakage could occur if the joint is not installed properly or if mounting threads are not tightened sufficiently. Joint stopper plate Set screw CAUTION Always push and turn when locking to prevent damage. The protective cover will not close unless the lock is released. 5. Pilot air OFF function (M7) CAUTION The supply of pilot air will be forced to stop when power is on, so the main valve can be switched even when power is on. When using the OFF function, caution is required because the cylinder moves immediately when using the 2-position single and -position ABR connection or PAB connection Remove the set screw. Pull out the joint stopper plate and joint together. Align the stopper plate with the groove on the replacement joint, and assemble temporarily. Assemble the stopper plate and joint together, and tighten the set screw. Pull on the joint to confirm that it is properly installed.
