These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the paint finish. This trunk spoiler kit should be installed only if the ambient air temperature is 15 C (60 F) or above. Clean and wax the areas to be covered with a highquality paste wax. 2 Installing the Trunk Spoiler 1. Open the trunk lid. Remove the trunk lid trim panel (11 clips), if equipped. 3. Align the template on the trunk lid as shown, and attach it with masking tape. Align. Align. LID CLIP Align the edge of the template with the edge of the trunk lid. ALIGN THIS AREA WITH EDGE MASKING Align the edge of the template with the edge of the trunk lid. 3 7. Using a center punch, mark the centers of the four marks. Set the center punch to the minimum power setting. CENTER PUNCH 2 MARKS 8. While wearing eye protection, drill four 8.5 mm holes through the marks. First drill with a 3 mm drill bit, then a 5 mm drill bit, then a 7 mm drill bit, and finish with an 8.5 mm drill bit. Drill perpendicularly to the trunk lid. To prevent drilling through the inner panel, wrap a strip of tape around the drill bit 10 mm (0.4 in.) away from the tip. Remove the tape attached in step 2. Remove all burrs and metal shavings with a file, and apply touchup paint to the edges of the holes American Honda Motor Co., Inc. All Rights Reserved. 4 10. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the trunk spoiler will attach. Clean using isopropyl alcohol. 12. Install the clip grommets into the four holes in the trunk lid. Apply pressure to each clip grommet until you hear a click, and make sure it is installed securely. CLIP GROMMET LID Make sure there is no gap in this area. 4 CLIP GROMMETS SHOP TOWEL Q080508AJ 11. Install seals onto the four clip grommets. 4 SEALS 4 HOLES 13. 5 14. Attach masking tape to the ends of the tab tapes, and attach the tabs to the top surface of the trunk spoiler. 16. Adjust the position of the trunk spoiler so there is equal spacing on both sides. MASKING Check that the clearance is the same on both sides. 12 TABS FRONT VIEWED FROM SIDE Q080511AJ 15. Align the four pins on the spoiler with the four clip grommets, and install the trunk spoiler by applying pressure against the trunk spoiler until you hear a click. Do not apply excessive pressure. 4 PINS Equal spacing on both sides. Q080516BJ 17. Visually check that the clearance between the trunk spoiler and trunk lid is the same on both sides as shown. 6 18. While applying light pressure against the trunk spoiler, carefully remove the six adhesive backings shown. 22. While applying light pressure against the trunk spoiler, carefully remove the two adhesive backings shown. Press. 6 ADHESIVE BACKINGS ADHESIVE BACKINGS Q080513BJ 19. Firmly press the trunk spoiler against the trunk lid with your hand. 20. While applying light pressure against the trunk spoiler, carefully remove the two adhesive backings shown. ADHESIVE BACKINGS 23. Firmly press the trunk spoiler against the trunk lid with your hand. 24. While applying light pressure against the trunk spoiler, carefully remove the two adhesive backings shown. ADHESIVE BACKINGS Q080515AJ Q080514AJ 21. Firmly press the trunk spoiler against the trunk lid with your hand. Q080517AJ 25. 7 26. Using a rubber roller, apply firm pressure, especially at the ends, to set the adhesive. Apply firm pressure, especially at the ends. Installing the Trunk Spring 27. Open the trunk lid. Push the tabs, and pull down the two seat-back release levers to release the hooks. Move the seat-back release levers out of your way. HOLE HOOK Push. Press. 8 29. Wear heavy gloves to protect your hands. With an assistant holding the trunk lid open, use the trunk spring tool to remove the left trunk spring from the trunk lid right hinge. Pull the trunk spring tool slowly and carefully toward you. 31. Reinstall the center clip onto the trunk springs. NEW LEFT SPRING LID HINGE SPRING CENTER CLIP Q072817AJ 32. Reinstall all removed parts. SPRING LEFT SPRING SPRING TOOL Q080519EJ 30. Install the new left trunk spring in the slot in the trunk lid left (driver s) hinge and to the right (passenger s side) hinge bracket. Set the trunk spring in the first notch (original position) of the hinge bracket. FIRST NOTCH HINGE BRACKET SPRING NEW LEFT SPRING (Install.)
