Information Descriptions to which special attention must be paid are marked with the symbol shown on the left and surrounded by a frame. 2.1 Proper use The M&S ball valves are designed for the described purpose. Any other use is deemed improper. M&S will not be liable for any damage resulting from improper use; the operator bears the sole risk in this case. Preconditions for fully functional safe operation of the valve are the correct transport and storage and also correct installation and assembly. Proper use also includes compliance with the operating, maintenance and servicing conditions. Unauthorised modifications that impair the safety of the valve are not permitted. Only use original spare parts and accessories approved by the manufacturer. 2.2 Personnel The operating and maintenance staff must be qualified accordingly. They must be briefed separately about potential hazards and must know and observe the safety information in the operating instructions. 2.3 General regulations The user has a duty to only operate the valve when it is fully functional. 6 4 Use and functional principle The ball valve can be fitted everywhere; in pipes, apparatus, tanks and vessels used in the food and drink industry and in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Everywhere where a flow and shut off is necessary For fibrous or lumpy transported materials For lines with inspection gauges The valve is opened or closed via the manual actuator or a pneumatic drive (air/air or air/spring). 8 5 Transport and storage On receiving the valve, check if the order and delivery correspond. Check that the delivery is complete and undamaged. Visible external transport damage and/or missing packaging units must be noted immediately on the waybill for the transportation company. The recipient must take recourse against the transportation company and inform M&S Armaturen GmbH accordingly. Notification of transport damage that was not recognised immediately must be sent to the transportation company within 6 days. Any damage claims made later will be borne by the recipient. 5.1 Transport The packaging units may only be transported using suitable lifting equipment and slings. Observe the symbols attached to the packaging. Transport the valve carefully to prevent damage caused by impacts or negligent loading or unloading. Rev.0 / Page 8 of 17 BA_KV_EN_neu.doc

9 6 Installation / dismantling / mounting Before carrying out any maintenance work, the pipe system in which the valve is positioned must be depressurised and emptied of any fluids! For safe maintenance of the valve, observe the assembly instructions (chap. 6). 6.1 Installation Please observe the respective national regulations and provisions. The valve must be installed into the pipe system without any tension. The valve may only be mounted when depressurised. Only mount when cool and cleaned. Ball valves need to be completely dismantled before being welded in (see chapter Dismantling). All parts need to be removed from the valve. The welding work must be carried out when the valve is partially mounted without the drive, seals or ball. During welding, ensure that no external deformation stress is transferred onto the disk valve. The subsequent assembly work may only be carried out when the valve is cool and clean. 6.2 Dismantling The valve may only be dismantled when depressurised. Rev.0 / Page 9 of 17 BA_KV_EN_neu.doc

14 6.3 Mounting The valve may only be dismantled when depressurised. During assembly, ensure that the seal is not damaged. Clean the installation spaces and running surfaces before installing. If necessary, replace the O-rings (8,9,10,11). Assemble the ball valve in reverse order to the dismantling process (see 6.2). Check the valve function. 7 Maintenance / servicing To guarantee a high level of operational safety of the ball valves, all wear parts should be replaced at defined intervals. The maintenance intervals are different depending on the application and should be defined by the user on the basis of sporadic checks. In the case of non-observance of these operating instructions or any modifications to the valve, all liability on the part of M&S Armaturen GmbH will lapse. Any other use or use above and beyond the intended purpose is deemed improper. M&S Armaturen GmbH will not be liable for any resulting damage. 8 Cleaning Observe the safety data sheets of the cleaning agent manufacturer! Only use cleaning agents that do not corrode stainless steel, elastomers or plastics. Carefully clean individual parts. Before taking samples, flush and sterilise the inside of the valve.
