2 PSU 3/4HP Pump Retro-Fit This retro-fit kit will convert any PSU with a ¼ HP vacuum pump to use a ¾ HP vacuum pump. This retro-fit kit will work for PSU s with the following manufacturer s part numbers: MRV-0523-BOX MRV-0523-PSU PSU-2 PSU-2-H 1. Tip the PSU up on its end and remove the four ¼-20 Hex Nuts on the bottom of the PSU that hold the pump. Be careful that the pump does not come loose and fall inside the enclosure. Tilt the PSU back onto its feet. 2. Open the lid of the PSU and put a piece of tape on the venturi hose that is closest to the control valve (this is the throat pressure tap). Disconnect the two Venturi Hoses from the small hose barbs on the black venturi. The Venturi Hoses should pull off with some effort. Disconnect the Inlet Hose and the Exhaust Hose as shown in the picture. These will be replaced and it is ok to cut them off.

3 3. Using the black venturi tube as a handle, lift the pump assembly out of the PSU and balance it on the edge of the PSU box. 4. Remove the box mounted hose barb for the exhaust hose and the exterior exhaust muffler. Install the plug furnished with the retro-fit kit in the hole in the box. 5. Disconnect the green ground wire and the power cord from the pump.

4 6. Place the pump assembly on a work surface. 7. Remove the Z-Bracket from the Control Valve and the pump and discard. Reinstall the bolt that held the Z-Bracket to the Control Valve. 8. Use a piece of tape to mark the end of the venturi closest to the control valve. Remove the Venturi and Control Valve assembly from the pump and dismantle the assembly such that the Venturi and the Control Valve can be re-used with the new 3/4 HP Pump.

5 9. Install the new black anodized aluminum mounting plate on the bottom of the 3/4 HP Pump with the long side of the mounting plate PARALLEL to the long axis of the pump using the provided ¼ hardware and install the new larger rubber mounting feet using the provided 5/16 hardware as shown below.

6 10. Install the Control Valve and Venturi on the 3/4 HP Pump as shown in the picture below using the supplied fittings. Make sure the end of the venturi with the tape marker is closest to the control valve. Install the hose barb 45º elbow with the end pointed up as shown. Be sure to use the supplied Teflon tape thread sealer or liquid thread sealer on all the pipe thread connections and make sure that all connections are tight. Any leaks in the inlet side connections will decrease the performance of the system. Exhaust side leaks will not decrease performance, but will allow hot (190 ºF) exhaust air to leak into the enclosure and will shorten the life of the system.

7 11. The long axis of the control valve should be parallel to the long axis of the pump. The venturi should be slightly angled as shown in the picture below to allow hand access to the Control Valve once the pump is installed in the PSU. 12. Tip the PSU-2 up on its wheels until it is resting on its handle side. Drill four 3/8 diameter holes as shown on drawing PSU PUMP HOLES. Follow the procedure shown in the notes of the drawing.

9 13. Sit the PSU-2 back onto its wheels and front feet. Drill the pump exhaust hole per drawing PSU EXHAUST HOLE. Clean out any aluminum chips from the PSU box.

11 14. Remove control panel to provide access to the wiring terminal strip. With the control valve towards the same end of the box as the wheels balance the 3/4 HP Pump assembly on the edge of the PSU box (this may require help) and connect the wiring per the wiring diagram shown in drawing PSU WIRING DIAGRAM. Replace the fuse in the control panel with the supplied 15 Amp Slo-Blo fuse.

13 15. Lower the pump assembly into the box and align the mounting feet studs with the four 3/8 diameter pump mounting holes drilled earlier. 16. Place one 1 ¼ OD Washer and one 5/16 lock washer and one 5/16-18 nut on each of the pump mounting studs protruding from the bottom of the PSU and tighten each nut.

14 17. Install the muffler jar assembly as shown below and connect to the 3/8 NPT elbow on the outside as shown in following picture. (Note: The following pictures are of a prototype unit and show some equipment not on a stock PSU-2). Connect the blue exhaust hose from the pump to the muffler jar. Be sure that the power cord (orange in the picture below) does not contact the muffler or the exhaust hose.

15 18. Connect the braided intake hose to the 3/8 hose barb on the wall of the PSU box as shown below. Connect the two Venturi Hoses to the two small hose barbs on the venturi. Make sure to install the hose with the tape marker on the hose barb closest to the control valve. (Note: The following picture is of a prototype unit and shows some equipment not on a stock PSU-2) 19. Plug PSU into GFCI outlet. 20. Turn on pump and test. 21. Consult HI-Q ( ) with any questions.
