4 Industrial Thermometers Details of Design Casings Aluminum, V-shaped, completely polished, gold-colored anodized (or silvercolored upon request). Numerals of reading scale printed on the right side. Printing black-colored for easy readability. Adjustable to any desired viewing position and locked by brass nut, spanner size 22 mm. Angle thermometers (90 degrees) have a grooved adapter piece with set screw. Advantage: When mounting the thermometer, it is not necessary to turn the casing. Glass Inserts (Capillaries) Capillary tube of solid glass, bar-shaped, prismatic (optic enlargement of the column), diameter approx. 6mm, oval opening, with yellow background for mercury and white background for blue fluid column. Calibration is deeply burnt, in black, thus being absolutely resistant. The main graduations, which correspond with the printing on the casing, are especially clearly outlined. Capillary Fluid For standard executions from -60 to +200 C, blue fluid and red fluid, respectively, for -60 C (code "Fu"). For temperatures of more than +200 C, only mercury columns (code "Hg") are possible. Upon request, thermometers can be delivered with mercury filling from -30 C onwards. Immersion Tubes (Pockets) As a standard, manufactured of brass (code "Ms") for temperatures up to 300 C, for temperatures of more than 300 C made of steel (Code "St"). Seawater resistant alloys are available upon request (special alloy SoMs 59, SoMs 76 or "CuNiSOFe"). For corrosive alkalis or acids, material (stainless steel) or other resistant kinds of steel are available. With immersion tube type "B", diameter is 10 mm, thickness 1 mm. Accuracy About 1 % of maximum scale value, for thermometers with mercury column. The accuracy of thermometers with an alcoholic fluid meets DIN requirements and, consequently, corresponds with the requirements for local reading thermometers.

Advantage: Immersion tube can be installed independently of thermometer casing. 9 SIKA Thermometers Revolving angle type This original SIKA thermometer design permits the casing including insert to be turned by 360 degrees, after installation, so it can be read from any direction. This special SIKA thermometer type will be applied when installation conditions do not permit using a normal angle-type thermometer which is read from the front.

13 SIKA Thermometers Immersion Tube Type "Dc", Union nut M 24x1, 5 Casing 200x36 mm gold-colored anodized DIN F On principle, thermometers of type "Dc" are supplied with a steel tube of dia mm for the lower part of the capillary, and which fits into protecting tubes with 7 mm bore, in order to protect the capillary and to prevent glass particles to penetrate into the bore of the protecting tube if glass breakage occurs. Immersion tubes of all right-angled thermometers are manufactured with a grooved adapter piece on top, which is installed in the casing and kept in its place by a set screw. Advantage: Immersion tube can be installed independently of thermometer casing. No turning of thermometer casing is necessary on installation.

15 Table of Materials The manufacture of SIKA protecting tubes is regularly controlled by the TÜV Hessen" (technical inspection service) and meets the requirements of AD/HP O. Please inquire if you need protecting tubes made of other materials, with flange connection or PTFE coating. Upon request, each protecting tube can be put to a pressure test or test for surface cracks, at extra charge; a Certificate DIN B/EN will be supplied. 1 ) Only with Works Certificate DIN 50049/2.1 or 2.2 is possible. 2 ) Hexagon Ms 58/tube SoMs 76 or MS63 brazed. Select the most suitable material for your application, Please see FNE and VDE because some materials may be precluded from certain application. 16 Installation Instructions According to specifications of the Institute of German Engineers. Weld-in protecting tubes (DIN , DIN 16179) to be welded so that cylindrical part does not enter into medium to be measured or into cross section of conduit. Installation Examples Type "B" Type "Ga" Type "HDo" Explanations This catalogue offers different types of protecting tubes which protect SIKA thermometers against hazards of mechanical, thermal or chemical nature. The protecting tubes permit removal or installation of thermometers during operation. Special attention is drawn to the fact that all SIKA thermometers with immersions tubes B (threaded socket with integral hexagonal nut are adjusted at complete immersion length. These immersion tubes must be totally immersed in the medium to be measured. Should this not be possible, and less than full immersion depth has to used, these special conditions have to be specified to avoid inaccurate reading. For best results, thermometers with at least 63 mm immersion tubes are recommended. On pipe conduits of less than 100 mm dia., the whole width of conduit should be used. On bigger sizes, reaching the center of the conduit is sufficient.
