The Hydraulics Training System answers the needs of students in technical institutes, vocational colleges, and university engineering departments, as well as in industry. The training system encourages hands-on learning and is a great addition to any hydraulics and pneumatics lab. The training program is divided into the following subsystems: Hydraulics Fundamentals, Electrical Control of Hydraulic Systems, Hydraulics Applications PLC (programmable logic controller), Troubleshooting Hydraulic Circuits, Servo Control of Hydraulic Systems, and Sensors. In Hydraulics Fundamentals, students are introduced to the basic principles and components of hydraulics. Electrical Control of Hydraulic Systems covers electrical control of hydraulic systems with ladder diagrams. Hydraulics Applications PLC expands upon the others with hydraulics applications controlled by PLCs. In Servo Control of Hydraulic Systems, students are introduced to servo-controlled hydraulic systems and their associated circuitry. In Troubleshooting Hydraulic Circuits, students develop their skills in troubleshooting. In Sensors, students are introduced to the operating characteristics of six types of photoelectric and proximity sensors. Most electrical components of the subsystem Electrical Control of Hydraulic Systems can also be used with the Pneumatics Training System, 6081, allowing interconnection of the systems to perform more complete functions. 2 Festo Didactic
3 Innovative Design Engineered for extreme ease of use, the basic system comes with a work surface assembly consisting of a solid metal, universal drip-tray hinged to a perforated, tiltable work surface on which hydraulic components can be mounted. The work surface can be configured to accommodate a wide variety of space and teaching needs. Lying flat over the drip tray, or tilted at 45, the work surface provides a large area on which hydraulic components and spaceexpanding work surfaces can be mounted at any location, either at 0 or 90. Mounting and removal of components are especially easy with the Quick-Lock System that secures the component base plate to the work surface. Although the system is designed to operate atop a regular work table, an optional bench is available to provide mobility and storage space. Mounted on four heavy-duty, swivelling, lockable castors, the bench provides shelving for extra work surfaces and components. Optional dressing panels are also available to fully enclose the bench and provide storage area for the components. The work surfaces may also be linked together for more complex electro-hydraulic/pneumatic circuits. By utilizing the optional work surfaces, exercise setups can be saved. Two student groups can simultaneously work on a bench when the Work Surface (Dual A-Frame), is used. All components meet industrial safety standards, are identified with the proper ANSI symbol, and are equipped with male check-valve quick-connect fittings. Virtual Laboratory Equipment All components contained in subsystems Hydraulics Fundamentals and Electrical Control of Hydraulic Systems can be simulated by the Windows -based Hydraulics Simulation Software (LVSIM -HYD), The simulated components can be interconnected and their operation studied, using the same courseware as that used for the real equipment. Courseware The courseware consists of a student manual for each subsystem and an instructor guide. The student manuals are divided into several units, each consisting of a series of hands-on exercises dealing with one of the hydraulics fields. Each exercise provides a clearly stated objective, a discussion, textbook references, a summary of the exercise procedure, a detailed exercise procedure, a conclusion, and a set of review questions. A ten question test at the end of each unit allows the students to verify what was learned in the unit. Refer to the tables of contents of the manuals for a list of the topics covered in the student manuals. The instructor guides contain the measurement results as well as the answers for each hands-on exercise of the student manuals, and the answers to the unit test questions. The courseware also includes a reference textbook, optional instructional DVDs, and courseware figures. These figures are available in the form of transparencies and on CD-ROM. Furthermore, all student manuals and instructor guides are available, as an option, in Job Sheet format. Festo Didactic 3
4 elearning Systems The courseware is also available in three elearning formats for users who prefer a computer-based approach: eseries, facilitated by the Mind-Sight elearning System. See Hydraulics Fundamentals eseries, 6386-E, and Advanced Hydraulics eseries, SCORM-based, designed to be hosted by a third-party, SCORM 1.2 compliant Management System. See Hydraulics Fundamentals SCORM, 6386-F, and Advanced Hydraulics SCORM, Stand-alone, available on CD-ROM. This format runs on a web browser and does not require any management system. The training system is an add-on to the Electrical Control of Hydraulic Systems, , and Electrical Control of Pneumatic Systems, It does not include a work surface and the sensors must be installed on a work surface of the Hydraulics and Pneumatics Training Systems in order to perform the The system contains a selection of photoelectric, inductive, and capacitive sensors representative of what is found in the industry. The training system provides a comprehensive, high-quality, and cost-effective solution to rapidly build student knowledge in sensors. Each sensor is mounted on a flexible support attached to a metal base whose fixations can be inserted into the perforations of the trainer work surfaces. The sensor inputs and outputs are accessible through banana jacks, allowing for easy system setup. The sensors are protected against bad connections and reverse polarity, and are identified with the proper symbol on their base. All components meet industrial safety standards. A block, on which reflectors have been added, is used to observe the characteristics of each sensor. The Sensors courseware consists of a student manual and an instructor guide. The student manual is divided into seven hands-on exercises. Each exercise provides a clearly stated objective, a discussion, a summary of the exercise procedure, a detailed exercise procedure, and a conclusion. The instructor guide contains the measurement results as well as the answers for each hands-on exercise of the student manual. It is a Windows -based application produced by Rockwell Software that allows PLC programming using a personal computer. The free-form ladder of RSLogix Micro lets students concentrate on the application logic rather than using the proper syntax when editing programs. Several other features of RSLogix Micro greatly facilitate PLC programming, such as a project verifier, drag-and-drop editing, and search-and- 24 Festo Didactic

This software comes with RSLinx, which provides connectivity between the PLC and the computer. The software is available with either an educational license ( 3245-A) or as a commercial license ( 3245-B). Computer Requirements A currently available personal computer with USB 2.0 ports, running under one of the following operating systems: Windows 7 or Windows 8. Communication Cable (Allen-Bradley) The communication cable is an RS-232-C serial cable specifically designed to connect a personal computer to an Allen-Bradley programmable logic controller, thus making it possible to program and monitor the PLC. Communication Cable Type Length 8 pin mini DIN to 9 pin D shell 2 m (6.5 ft) Programmable Logic Controller (Allen-Bradley) The Programmable Logic Controller (Allen-Bradley) is mounted on a metal base which allows it to be clamped onto a perforated work surface. The PLC has the capacity to accept eight 24 V dc input signals from input elements, such as push buttons, limit switches, magnetic switches, and photoelectric switches. It can control up to six 24 V dc output devices, such as pilot lamps and solenoids. All PLC inputs and outputs are terminated with banana jacks to ease system setup. Festo Didactic 25
