1 PHPK TECHNOLOGIES INCORPORATED Vacuum Seal-off Valves Description Seal-off Valves PHPK combination vacuum evacuation and over-pressure relief valves are manufactured using only 300-series stainless steel material. All valves are designed to relieve at approximately 15 psig. These rugged service valves are supplied with spring-loaded double fluorocarbon rubber (Viton) O-ring seals, and a threaded spring relief cap designed to prevent contamination and moisture from entering the valve. These valves are designed for the most severe outdoor service and incorporate a licensed, patented, plating process to PHPK specifications for additional corrosion and galling protection. In addition, PHPK provides specialty assemblies and covers for unique-duty applications. Seal-off Valve Operators PHPK seal-off valve operators are manufactured for rugged service. All operators utilize stainless steel and hardcoat anodized aluminum components with Viton O-ring seals. All operators are provided with a choice of tube connections for vacuum pumps. In addition PHPK provides a full line of hoses and connections for easy assembly to vacuum pumps. 6/97 3-1
2 Design Standards Vacuum seal-off valves, part of a complete line of PHPK cryogenic hardware, have been designed to fulfill every system designer s requirements for a safe, reliable method of vacuum closure. One-inch vacuum seal-off valves and valve operators, VR-46 and VR-47 respectively, serve as pump-out and isolation valves as well as safety relief devices. They offer added reliability when used with vacuum vessels, vacuum insulated cryogenic storage and transport containers, and vacuum insulated transfer lines where a permanent or semi-permanent vacuum is required. 3 Design Features VR-46 Each PHPK seal-off valve is all-stainless steel construction, equipped with a double fluorocarbon rubber (Viton) O-ring seal (to prevent vacuum loss from vibration or shock) and threaded-cap, spring-loaded, Viton O-ring sealed relief to prevent moisture and contamination from entering the valve internals. All threaded parts are plated with a patented plating process to PHPK specifications to prevent galling and corrosion. The seal-off valve assembly provides a combination vacuum pump-out opening, seal-off, and relief device. 4 Vacuum Seal-Off Manifold VR-46-M The PHPK thermocouple gauge tube manifold assembly provides ports for two (2) thermocouple gauge tubes, isolation valve, and a protective dust cover enclosure. The VR-46-M utilizes the features of the VR-46 seal-off valve for evacuation and relief. The thermocouple manifold allows for dual tubes of the same vacuum range (backup gauge tube for failure), or provides ports for gauges of high and low vacuum ranges. In addition, a bellows seal isolation valve provides positive shut-off for thermocouple gauge tube replacement. The isolation valve and manifold assembly are protected by a hard coat anodized, aluminum enclosure with quick release latches for easy access to the tubes and isolation valve. Thermocouple gauge tubes are provided as an option with this assembly FNPT. (2 PLCS.) 1.88 DIA
5 Vacuum Seal-Off Valve Operator VR-47 Used when opening or closing (VR-46) PHPK vacuum seal-off valves, PHPK vacuum seal-off valve operators are manufactured using hard-coat anodized aluminum and stainless steel components. Each operator is provided with a choice of connection ports; smooth, for connection to O-ring compression-type quick connects or barbed for connection to PVC or rubber hose. Simple to operate, the VR-47 provides a positive lock to ensure complete evacuation. When positioned on the PHPK VR-46 seal-off, the VR-47 provides mass spectrometer leak-tight (1 x 10-9 scc/sec helium) operation and positive vacuum shut-off DIA. MAX. DIAMETER MAX. HEIGHT DIA. 7 PHPK TECHNOLOGIES INCORPORATED Vacuum Plug Valves In addition to the standard vacuum seal-off valve, PHPK offers a vacuum plug valve. The design incorporates the dual (Viton, fluorocarbon rubber) O-ring seal found in the PHPK standard vacuum seal-off valves, but does not include the sophisticated reseating plug and cap assembly. Designed for small vacuum assemblies, the VP-44, 1/2 inch assembly ensures vacuum-tight closure (1 x 10-9 scc/sec helium), all-stainless steel parts, and the quality and service promised by all PHPK equipment.
