TENSION MASTER package 2 The diagram to the right shows the vibration analysis that this device can carry out. Part names 3 *FFT analysis is: picking out the main frequency in a vibration. Safety precautions 1. When using the device outdoors, turn the power off and move to a safe location immediately if it thunders This may result in lightning strike or shock. Operating precautions 1. Do not pull the sensor cord Always hold the sensor with care. 2. Do not swing the sensor around Always hold the sensor with care

4 3. Make sure to keep the part of the object to which the sensor will be applied clean If the sensor becomes unable to stick to a surface well, it will result in inaccurate measurement. Water, oil, or dust on the surface of the item being measured will result in inaccurate measurement. Please pay special attention to the precautions written on the back of the doublesided adhesive sheet. 4. Avoid strong shocks to the device Strong shocks may result in device failure. Do not leave the device in situations where it could drop. Do not throw the device. 5. Do not store the device in damp, humid, or dusty conditions 6. Do not store the device in high temperatures This may cause deformation or failure of the device. Do not use or leave the device in direct sunlight or vehicles left out in the sun. 7. Do not handle solvents (thinners, benzene etc.) while using the device This may cause deformation or failure of the device. Operating precautions 8. Do not poke the device s switches or buttons with pens or other sharp objects Always use your finger to press the buttons. 9. Do not run the belt while the sensor is attached This may result in device failure or injury by entanglement. Please take care with the sensor cord as it will break if pulled too much. 10. Do not use the device with a tangled sensor cord Please pay special attention to the condition of the sensor cord as a damaged cord may generate heat, give an electric shock, or otherwise cause injury or fire. 11. Do not place heavy objects on the device Designate a safe storage area for this device. 12. Do not expose the device to water This product is not water resistant. 13. Do not connect the device to other USB devices 5 6

5 Using TENSION MASTER Measuring belts 1. Using the double-sided adhesive sheet, attach the sensor to the center* of the belt span. Belt span length *The sensor should be placed in the center of the belt span to achieve accurate measurement. Belt span is the distance between where the belt touches the pulleys. * Stick the adhesive sheet to the side of the sensor that does not have the serial number on it. 2. After confirming that the sensor is properly connected to the device, hold the power button for 2 seconds and the pilot light (green) will come on.** *The pilot light will blink when the battery is drained. Please change the battery immediately. *The device will turn off automatically if no measurement is carried out for more than 1 minute. Double-sided adhesive sheet 3. After turning the device on the company name and product version will appear on the screen followed by WAIT SW **. *WAIT SW = measurement preparatory mode. *The device will not measure vibration in this state. If Sensor NG appears on the screen, please check the connection between device and the sensor.* *If this message appears when the sensor is properly connected there may be a fault with the sensor or cord. Please change accordingly. 4. Press the MEASURE button once and WAIT G will appear on the screen. *WAIT G = waiting to carry out measurement. 7 8

6 5. In this state the sensor will automatically carry out measurement of vibrations.* *Use your finger to cause vibration by flicking the belt at a place near the sensor. 6. SAMPLING will appear on the screen when measurement is being carried out. Characteristic vibration (Hz) will then be displayed. 7. After a certain time WAIT SW will appear on screen again. Hold the POWER button down to turn the device off. Belt tension can be calculated using the TENSION MASTER application available for Android OS. TENSION MASTER is only available for Android OS at present. (see Appendix) Measuring other items 1. Using the double-sided adhesive sheet, attach the sensor to the item that vibration frequency is to be measured from. 9 10

After confirming that the sensor is properly connected to the device, hold the power button for 2 seconds and the pilot light (green) will come on.** *The pilot light will blink when the battery is drained. Please change the battery immediately. *The device will turn off automatically if no measurement is carried out for more than 1 minute. 3. After turning the device on the company name and product version will appear on the screen followed by WAIT SW **. *WAIT SW = measurement preparatory mode. *The device will not measure vibration in this state. If Sensor NG appears on the screen, please check the connection between device and the sensor.* *If this message appears when the sensor is properly connected there may be a fault with the sensor or cord. In this state the sensor will automatically carry out measurement of vibrations. If TENSION MASTER does not start measuring, the vibration is probably too weak. Apply vibration directly to the sensor and it will start measuring.* * Tap the sensor lightly with your finger. Do not use a hammer or other item as this may result in breaking the sensor case or failure of the sensor. For measuring items that are always vibrating attach the sensor to the item while WAIT SW is on the screen and then press the MEASURE button. 6. SAMPLING will appear on the screen when measurement is being carried out. Characteristic vibration (Hz) will then be displayed. 7. After a certain time WAIT SW will appear on screen again. Hold the POWER button down to turn the device off

8 Belt tension conversion and After-sales service Belt tension conversion Bando belts characteristic vibration can be converted to belt tension using our TENSION MASTER application for Android.* The unit weight of Bando belts are programmed into the TENSION MASTER application, so there is no need to input the data.** Measurable belts Belt tension conversion with TENSION MASTER is a free service and is not covered by any warranty. Please use the service with this in mind. * TENSION MASTER can be used to measure other maker s belts but the measurements may not be accurate. Bando belt weights are stored in TENSION MASTER memory, but other maker s belt weights should be input as g/m. * Owing to the weight of the sensor it is not suitable for use on all belts. Belts such as Synchronous Belts S1M-S3M that have small unit weight fall outside the tension conversion capabilities. See page 14 for a list of belts that can be measured using TENSION MASTER. After-sales service The warranty period of this product is 1 year for the main unit and 6 months for the sensor from the date stamped on the warranty card. The warranty card is needed for claims, so please store it safely.* For repairs, please contact the Bando business division written on the warranty card or the place of purchase. For parts for sensor maintenance and repair, and double-sided adhesive sheet, please contact the sales company or place of purchase. * IMPORTANT! Warranty cards that are not stamped with date of purchase will not be acknowledged. This warranty applies to the main unit (VA-010) and sensor (VAS-010). Other parts (battery, Velcro tape, double-sided adhesive sheet) are not covered under this warranty. The warranty is applicable to defects in materials or workmanship under normal use and conditions during the warranty period and does not cover damage caused by dropping the device accidently or otherwise, water damage*, or other situations such as the device being dismantled. The device will be replaced in case of legitimate claims. This is the sole remedy for defective parts or products. Monetary refunds will not be given. A new warranty will not be issued with replacement products, but the original warranty will be returned with the replacement product. *Water damage includes but is not limited to cases where: the inner water exposure indicator has changed color, the device has signs of corrosion caused by exposure to such things as condensation, moisture, or perspiration
