Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page 3 1. General VIMARC vibrator motors are used to energize industrial vibrating equipment, such as vibrating screen, feeders and chutes, shakeouts, compacting tables, deburring and finishing drums, resonant vibrating chutes, sorting machines, etc. The specifications and technical data of VIMARC vibrator motors, such as: centrifugal force speed, sizes, and the electrical data are stated in our brochure "Dimensioned-Sketch". 2. Construction VIMARC vibrator motors have a sturdy perlite iron housing and solid mounting feet, to assure trouble-free installation and operating, if the instructions in this manual are followed. The shaft is generously proportioned to minimize bending caused by the generated centrifugal force. On both ends of the shaft a couple of centrifugal weights is secured, adjustable to set the centrifugal force from zero to maximum. On the centrifugal weights marks are attached from which the centrifugal force can be read. The high starting torque of the motor ensures a quick run-up to operating speed. Since the motors have been designed with ample dimensions from both an electrical and mechanical point of view, working temperatures remain at low level even after months of continuous duty. Besides, caused by rotation of the weights in the hood guards, airmovement causes extra cooling. VIMARC vibrator motors are provided with heavy-duty cylindrical roller bearings. All design features described above contribute to the long life which characterizes the vibrator motors manufactured by VIMARC. 3. Transport and storage 3.1 Transport VIMARC vibrator motors are provided with min. 2 cranehooks. When hoisting the motor min. 2 cranehooks must be used. Extra loads may not be attached to the motor since the cranehooks are designed to support the weight of the motor only. Motors may not be stacked, because the standard package used to ship motors cannot support such weight. CAUTION! Dropping or jarring VIMARC vibrator motors may cause damage to the bearings and should be avoided. 3.2 Storage VIMARC vibrator motors should be stored indoors in a dry room which should answer the following demands: - Clean and dry atmosphere. - Vibrating free, in order to prevent damaging the bearings. - Ambient may not exceed 40 C. - No high fluctuations of temperature in a short time so that condensation could corrode the motor. When the fluctuations of temperature are higher than 20 K. storage in an acclimatised space is recommended.
Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page Transport and storage of complete machinery If VIMARC vibrator motors are placed on a machine, we recommend, for long storage, to put the setting of the weights to 0% (see chapter 5). At storage of complete machinery it is not necessary to remove the vibrator motors. The motors can be stored as recommended in paragraph 3.2. After long storage it is necessary to relubricate the bearings. 4. Installation The vibrator motor must be mounted on a flat, machined, rigid base. The motor should be secured on this base with bolts grade 8.8 DIN 931 or 933 with accompanying locknuts DIN 982 or 985. The nuts must be tightened using a torque wrench up the following torque values: M 16 : 200 Nm M 20 : 390 Nm M 24 : 670 Nm type : AXP and BXP type : CXP, DXP and EXP type : FXP and GXP Most failures are a result of an inadequate torque or loosening of bolts. After approximately twenty minutes of operation the unit should be switched off and all mounting bolts checked and retightened with a torque wrench to the above specified values. After two or three hours of operation this tightening procedure should be repeated. It is suggested that this checking and tightening procedure is repeated at 3 to 4 hour intervals for at least two days. Thereafter, the checking and tightening should be performed at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks, always following the aforementioned procedure Other torque values M 8 : M 10 : M 12 : 24 Nm 47 Nm 82 Nm
Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page 5 5. Variation in centrifugal force output VIMARC vibrator motors leave the factory with the centrifugal weights positioned at 100%, except overseas shipments; then the motors leave the factory with the weights positioned at 0%; this regarding the axle load. The centrifugal force of the VIMARC vibrator motor can be altered with a resulting change in the amplitude of stroke in the following manner: 1) Detach and remove both hood guards (6). 2) Loosen both clamping bolts (32) to release the inner centrifugal weights and rotate each inner weight (3 and 4) equally in the same direction (see warning). Outer weights (5) are keyed on the shaft and thus fixed. These outer weights are provided with a marking line and the inner weights have a series of marking lines. 3) Retighten the clamping bolts (32). Retighten the clamping bolts using a torque wrench use the torque values as shown in chapter 4. 4) Refit and secure both hood guards (6). Make sure that the sealing cords (9) of the hood guards are in a 100% condition. Warning! Care must be taken to insure that the inner weights (3 and 4) at both ends of the motor shaft are set at precisely the same value as indicated by the marking lines. Any unequal setting of these weights will generate tremendous transverse forces, resulting in the destruction of your vibrating equipment.
Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page 6 6. Electrical connection The motor may only be connected by qualified personnel. The motor must be connected according to local and national codes. For electrical power connection a cable type: H07RN-F or a comparable quality which is adequate to meet all national requirements should be used. An ample loop is indispensable because of the continuous motion and it must be kept free from interference or rubbing. Connect the cable with a certified cable gland (not provided). The thread in the terminal box is 3/4 NPT. The wires inside the terminal box must also be kept free from interference or rubbing. Make sure that the cable gland seales the cable waterproof. The voltage and frequency of the power source must be in accordance with that stated on the rating plate. Connect the wires to the connection terminal board. Please consult motor rating plate for correct arrangement. Upon closing the terminal box it must be sealed off against penetration of dust or moisture. We suggest the terminal box should be sealed with silicone rubber. A suitable and adequate disconnect switch and protective motor starter is required. The current should normally not exceed the current stated on the rating plate. 6.1 Star- or triangle connection The connection terminal board inside the terminal box provides for two connection arrangements. Rearrange the terminal jumpers. Example for connection 230/400 Volt motor: "Delta" connection "Star" connection
Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page Dual voltage connection Dual voltage VIMARC vibrator motors are delivered with a terminal box containing nine leads, and they are connected for the lower voltage, namely 230 V. For the higher voltage, namely 460 V, re-arrange the leads as shown in figure below. Notice that terminal jumpers are omitted in that arrangement! Lower voltage Higher voltage 6.3 Grounding The motor always must be grounded in two places. 1) In the terminal box with the earthbold to the powercable. 2) through the earthplate on the mountingfoot with the machinery. Important! The diameter of these groundleads must be according to local and national codes.
Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page 8 7. Relubrication Only the GXP motors are fitted with grease fittings. Always use grease as stated on the rating plate. Relubricate in the following way: after the first 500 operating hours and every 1000 hours thereafter 15 à 20 grams grease per grease fitting. 8. Replacement of bearings Warning! When replacing the bearings always check if all parts of the motor are in good condition. The code FM 3615 makes high demands upon the sizes of the fittings between bearinghousing and statorhousing, and between the bearinghousing and the spacers which are shrunk on the shaft. The above mentioned fittings must be checked if they are still in coordonance with the code. We advise you to send these motors to VIMARC for repair, we have the knowlegde and spareparts in store. If you decide to repair these motores elsewhere, please contact us, we can give you the sizes of the motorparts. We only can provide them if we know the serialnumber of the motor.
Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page Removing the cylindrical roller bearings The cylindrical roller bearing type is specified on the rating plate. Removing the bearings requires the following procedure: 1) Detach and remove both hood guards (6) from either side of the motor. 2) Either mark or record the angular setting of the inner centrifugal weights (3 and 4). 3) Loosen the clamping bolts (32) of the outer centrifugal weights (5) and pull off the weights. 4) Remove the keys (13). 5) Loosen the clamping bolts (32) of the inner weights (3 and 4) and pull off the weights. 6) Remove the V-rings (35). 7) Loosen and remove the screws (31) and remove bearingcovers (10). 8) Loosen and remove the bolts (27). 9) Insert two bolts (27) into the threaded holes (G) and continue turning them in order to push the end plates (2) out of the motorhousing (1). 10) Remove end plates (2) together with outer races of the roller bearings (22). 11) By means of an extractor tool draw the inner race of the roller bearing (22) and the spacers (8) from the shaft. Pay attention that the circlip will not be damaged. 12) Push the outer race of the roller bearing by means of the inner race out of the end plates. 13) Thoroughly degrease and clean all parts, check all parts if they can be used again Installing the cylindrical roller bearings Don't use any other lubricant grease than specified on the rating plate. 1) Heat both the inner races of new bearings and the spacers (8) to approx. 100 C. Next push them over the shaft until against the circlip and let them cool off. 2) Grease-pack both roller bearings (22) and press them into their end plates (2). 3) Pack the recesses 2/3 full of grease. 4) Assemble the bearing covers (10) and attach with appropriate screws (31). 5) Use Loctite 549 for the cylindrical gap between bearing housing and stator housing. Assemble the bearing housings, use Loctite 242 for the bolts. Attention! Make sure that the lubrication channel (if any) is placed in his right position. 6) Check the axial clearance of the shaft. The granted tolerance must be between min. 0.4 and max. 1 mm. 7) Assemble the V-rings (35) on the shaft. 8) Push the inner centrifugal weights (3 and 4) on the shaft until against the shoulders. 9) Put the keys (13) into their recesses and push the outer weights (5) back on the shaft in the original position and tighten the clamping bolts (32). 10) Locate the inner centrifugal weights (3 and 4) in the exact angular position as marked or recorded and tighten the clamping bolts (32) firmly. 11) Refit the hood guards (6) and secure them with the appropriate screws. Make sure that the sealing cords (9) of the hood guards are in a 100% condition. Attention! For tightening the bearing covers, bearing housings and the weights use the torque values as shown in chapter 4. Note : During the first operating hours the motor will run warmer than usual. The excess lubricating grease will be pushed out. Thereafter the motor should run at normal operating temperature.
Installation, operating and maintenance instructions for VIMARC vibrator motors AXP up to and including GXP Page Safety According to safety it is not allowed to put the vibrator motor into service without the hood guards.
