1 Series 3000 O:l Pump Installation Kit Instructions 6-52 Page O:l SINGLE ACTING PUMP INSTALLATION (P/N 3 598) KIT INTRODUCTION. The O:l Single Acting Pump Installation Kit gives you all the necessary items to change a Series 3000 unit with a 2:l Piston Pump over to a O:l Single Acting Piston Pump. This pump is made available for those applications that require a higher instantaneous delivery rate than the dual acting pumps can provide. Application constraints include: The application must have a low duty cycle (2 cycles per minute maximum). a. Time to fill the pump (upstroke) is approximately.72 sec. b. Pump must be energized 200 msec before opening the guns. stroke equals 2. cubic: inches (35 cubic centimeters). The pump kit includes a 2 position, 3 way, solenoid valve that operates at either 2 VDC or 20 VAC. A CAUTION: The kit should not be fitted on Series 3800 or 3900 hopper applicators, because hopper adhesive head pressure may cause leaks at the pump mount. INSTALLATION Use the following procedure to remove the 2:l pump and install the O:l pump. Refer to the O:l Kit Parts List and Figure for part identification. The numbers in parentheses refer to the item numbers in Figure. The single acting pump must be energized before the guns fire. The customer is required to supply a triggering device (microswitch, photocell, timer, etc) for this purpose. A. Turn the circuit breaker on the applicator off. If there is adhesive in the tank, allow time for it to cool down but not to solidify. CAUTION: Removing the pump after the adhesive has begun to solidify could damage the O-ring on the crossover tube of the pump. P/N 08 59C ONORDSON CORPORATION 993 Issued 9/93

2 Instructions 6-52 Page 2 Series 3000 O:l Pump Installation Kit 2. Remove the pump enclosure by holding the enclosure and pulling up sharply. DO NOT rock the enclosure back and forth. 3. Set the pump air regulator to zero andshut off a valve upstream of the regulator in the air supply line.. Disconnect the pump inlet air supply line that is attached to the air control valve assembly. 5. Remove the hex head screws and washers that secure the pump and pump mount to the applicator. 6. Rotate the pump slightly in a circular motion to break suction and then pull it straight up to dlisengage the crossover tube from the manifold. A WARNING: Hot adhesive will flow from the pump inlet, outlet, and bleed hole. Wear safety gloves (P/N 902 5), safety glasses, and protective clothing to prevent serious burns,, 7. Remove the electrical cover and the rear panel from the applicator. 8. Disconnect the pump inlet air supply line from the union and connect the new 3/8 PFA tubing (0) using the 3/8 tube nut w/ferrule (2). 9. Check that the pump pan is in the correct position. 0. Hold the new O:l pump assembly () and carefully position the crossover tube of the pump into the inlet port of the manifold. Rotate the pump mount until the bolt holes for the hex head screws line up correctly.. Replace the hex head screws and washers that where removed in Step 5 with the hex head screws (7) and washers (5, 6) provided in this kit. Secure the pump and torque the screws lo- 2 ft-lbs ( Nm). 2. Apply Never Seez to the threads of the 90 Elbow (3) and connect it to the male elbow (). 3. Apply Never Seez to the threads of the Male Elbow () and connect to the pump as shown in Figure. 3 Series 3000 O:l Pump Installation Kit Instructions 6-52 Page 3. Apply Never Seez to the threads of the 90 Elbow (3) and secure the solenoid valve (2) to it. 5. Apply Never Seez to the threads of the 3/8 Elbow () and secure it to the solenoid valve (2). 6. Cut the PFA tubing (IO) so that it will reach the 3/8 Elbow () without pulling. Take the! tubing and secure it to the 3/8 Elbow. 7. Remove the front panel from the unit. 8. Push the solenoid wire leads between the tank and the center frame and fish the leads out to the front of the unit. 9. Carefully lay the leads in the notch in the wire channel along with the heater leads. Ru.n the solenoid leads along the wire channel, past the center frame and out into the electrical cabinet. 20. Attach the Push-on Terminal (9) to the end of the solenoid ground lead. Attach the solenoid ground lead to the ground stud located on the base of the electrical cabinet. 2. Connect the solenoid leadls to the back of the Terminal Block (). 22. Take the Terminal Block Bracket (6) and lay the Strip Marker (5) on top. While holding the bracket and strip marker, lay the terminal block on top so that the holes in the terminal block, strip marker and bracket line up. 23. Secure the terminal block to the bracket with the Pan Head Screws (3). 2. Using the HiLo Pan Head Screws (8) and Flat Washers (7), secure the bracket to the center frame. 25. Place the cable straps (9) along the solenoid lead wires to keep them in place. 26. Connect the selected triggering device (microswitch, photocell, timer, etc.) to the front of the terminal block in the same terminals as used in Step Replace the front and rea.r panels and the electrical cover. 28.
