2 1. Introduction Application. The switchgear type in its design without withdrawable parts is suitable for many possible alternatives of main circuits and functions. It may be also individually adapted, at customer's request, to solutions other than offered by its basic design, to fulfil various requirements of operation. If such solutions are to be applied, it is necessary to contact the manufacturer who will present the solution for the problem on the basis of the supplied information and his own long experience in designing, production, laboratory tests, erection and commissioning of low voltage switchgears. The switchgear presented here is a further stage in development of the metal-enclosed low-voltage switchgears produced by Elektrobudowa SA. Profound modifications have been made comparing to the former designs, but old, proven solutions have been left. The changes reflect our constant care to meet the requirements of a demanding customer. Modular low-voltage switchgears are designed for distribution of electrical energy for voltages up to 690 V AC and 110 V and 220 V DC. They are also used to supply and control of electrical equipment. Composed of adequately selected functional units, the switchgear can be applied in power stations and industrial plants. The switchgear is manufactured serially but equipped individually to satisfy the various needs, technical requirements, ratings and operational features, therefore it is an offer of modern, user-friendly system General characteristics. The switchgear in its design without withdrawable parts is: enclosed indoor stationary free-standing or wall-mounted in metal enclosure, providing degree of protection Ip-4X or increased IP-54, its components are located in separate compartments with metallic partitions, consists of sections fully assembled, with the exception of external connections (if the whole installation is performed by ELEKTROBUDOWA ) air-insulated and in multi-material insulation. 3 2. Technical data of standard design Environmental conditions. RNM-S switchgear can be installed in clean rooms, which meet the conditions specified in standard PN-IEC AC. 5 3. Typical sections of the switchgear Construction of sections. The switchgear is designed as a cubicle type, indoor, stationary, with frame construction. It is built of the half closed channel bar, perforated every 25 mm. The channel bar is made from aluminium and zinc -coated sheet which provides good anti-corrosive properties and contact between elements of the construction. The elements of the frame are joined by bolted fastener (aluminium pressure casting). Doors and covers are made of 1.5 mm electroplated sheet and coated with structural powder paint RAL 7035 (other colours upon agreement). The parts are mounted on the welded frame made from the 50 mm high channel bar. Upon agreement between the manufacturer and the customer and suitable selection of apparatus, the switchgear can be designed as outdoor system (placed under the canopy). It may be arranged as free-standing or wall- mounted (at least 100 mm distance from the wall). A section is a basic part of construction. It can constitute a separate functional unit itself (e.g. units with air blast circuit breakers ACB) or be divided into several smaller units. The division of internal space of the section into compartments depends on the function, equipment and the way of realisation of the unit. Typical, preferred way of realisation of the functional unit of the switchgear, particularly for engine drives, are sections with withdrawable units. The section is mounted on the foundation frame.in its upper part there is a ring circuits compartment. The compartment houses the protection devices of auxiliary circuits of functional units of a section and control and signalling instruments, mounted on the compartment door. At the back of the upper part of the switchgear, behind the ring circuits compartment there is a busbar compartment of the assembly. Horizontally laid phase busbars, in double or single arrangement, run in the compartment; PE conductor in the bottom of the switchgear and N conductor in the busbar compartment ( for flat sections) otr in the bottom of the switchgear for deep sections. The busbars join the vertical distribution busbars of the section, situated in a duct in the rear left part of the section behind the instrument compartment, and they constitute a fixed contact of the coupling connector of outgoing units main circuits. Owing to such location of the busbars it is possible, in case of free-standing design, to provide extra doors for the external connections compartments (option), which enable access from the back to facilitate installation. In the right vertical part of the section there is external connections compartment. It houses power and control cables for all functional units, vertical N and PE busbars and horizontal beams for fixing cables. The cables are usually entered from the bottom, but it is possible to enter them from the top or from the back. However, these require consulting ELEKTROBUDOWA, as the dimensions of openings for entering cables are limited by constructional requirements. On the level of a suitable unit there are connections of witdrawable parts with flexible screens of terminals, for connecting power cables, and the hinged junction blocks for connecting control cable cores. Through the units coupling connector of auxiliary circuits the blocks are connected with apparatus mounted on the withdrawable parts of the units. ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 9

6 In the left part of the section there are outgoing units arranged one above another. They are equipped with distribution, protection and measuring apparatus mounted on withdrawable parts. The withdrawable parts have a moving coupling set on the incoming side connected with the apparatus on the plate of the unit. Compartments inside the section are separated from one another by metallic partitions which increase safety for persons and limit the effects of arcing. Suitable perforation of the plates and protection of air inlets with a net ensure adequate internal ventilation. As a standard there are partitions between sections but bottom plates are mounted on request (perforated according to the supplied design). In the rear sheet plate of compartments with withdrawable parts there are bushings between sections, which provide degree of protection IP-2 the same on the incoming side (arranged horizontally) and on the outgoing side (arranged vertically) Fig.8. Identical are also both connecting couplers on the withdrawable parts. Unification of types and small dimensions of electroinsulating elements result in minimum use of plastics. The unit couplers are designed for conducting operation current and cannot be used for making and breaking working and short-circuit currents Increased degree of protection IP-54 To reach the increased degree of protection IP-54 in the switchgear it was necessary to apply new design solutions. Application of additional sealing on the edge of the door, enclosures and particularly on the front plates of withdrawable parts as the only way of increasing the tightness, proved insufficient. It was necessary to incorporate a special shaped element which works with polyurethane sealing on the door and external enclosures. The new shaped element is based on the halfclosed channel bar used in constructions providing basic degree of protection P-4X. Furthermore, the sections with withdrawable parts have additional space in the front, owing to which it is possible to close the enclosure tight with double door, even when the part is partly withdrawn from the compartment (e.g. in disconnected position) - (Fig. 1). In designs which provide degree of protection IP-54 there are no ventilation openings (but tightly closed exhaust dampers are left), so the load capacity in all external circuits of the section drops details can be found later in this document.. A switchgear system can be assembled from basic incoming and outgoing sections: SZ(DS) SZ(2DS) SO(DS) SZ(WN) SZ(2WN) SO(WN) SZ(mc) SO(mc) SZ(ro) Typical sections which have steel frame construction are mounted on the foundation frame, directly on the floor or on the false floor made from steel shapes. 8 3.3. Functional units with withdrawable parts. A withdrawable part is the most complex realization of a functional unit, but also the one which provides the best operation and handling facilities, ensuring the highest level of safety. It also provides the most effective use of the mounting space a section s volume. A withdrawable part m2 in the removed position out of the fixed part. In the disconnected position the withdrawable part remains mechanically atached to the fixed part, and an isolating distance is established in main and auxiliary circuits. When the part is withdrawn about 40mm from the compartment, in the position unmistakeably signalled by the snap with padlocking facility, the degree of protection IP-20 is provided. An example of a withdrawable part m2 in disconnected position. The withdrawable part can be in one of the four positions: removed disconnected test connected position. It can be taken outside the assembly without the necessity to de-energise the switchgear (provided degree of protection IP-20) removed position (Fig.2). In the final stage of moving the part it is being braked and protected against falling out it must be slightly lifted to remove entirely from the section. When the part is outside the assembly it can be protected against unintentional inserting into the compartment by padlocking the snap. A withdrawable part m2 in disconnected position before drawing out of the fixed part When the part is entirely inside the compartment (IP40) the auxiliary circuits and those on the outgoing side (cable connection) are connected the part reaches a test position. The principle of operation of the withdrawable part relies on a moving coupler on the incoming side (vertical distribution busbars of the section), the same for withdrawable parts of all dimensions, connected with the apparatus mounted on the mounting plate via flexible wires. In test position it is in the extreme rear position to establish the isolating distance, therefore it fulfils the function of isolating main switch. The part is shifted to connected position when the moving coupler is plugged onto the vertical busbars of the section. The part is being blocked in the compartment then. Bushings on the incoming side (busbars) and the outgoing side (cable) provide the degree of protection IP-2X when the withdrawable part is removed from the compartment. Owing to that the parts can perform the function of incoming, outgoing or coupling units. Our offer includes also earthing parts of all dimensions and racks for them.. ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 12

10 Two basic criteria at the selection of dimensions of sections with withdrawable parts are: - long time capacity of busbars of the set - horizontal ones (dimensions of the package) - degree of protection IP In consideration of the capacity (dimensions of busbars and thermal conditions) at IP-40 (basic tightness), sections are divided into: - shallow 600 mm (one single package of conductor per phase), - deep 800 mm (two double packages of conductors per phase). At IP-54 (increased tightness) section with withdrawable parts have additional space in the front, which enables closing the enclosure tightly with a double door even when the part is partially withdrawn from the compartment (for example in disconnected position) - Fig 3. The door can have glass windows to inspect the status of units. The section is divided into compartments with partitions; the compartments provide the degree of protection IP-20 - Fig. 3 and Fig. 4. In this way the personal safety is increased and the effects of arcing limited, and the perforations in the partitions provide good ventilation inside the compartments. Withdrawable part m1/2 Withdrawable part m1/4 Each section can work both in wall-type and free-standing switchgear. Than means that in places with difficult access there are no bolted electrical connections, which need periodical inspections and maintenance. Furthermore. most covers can be dismantled from the front of the switchgear, but this can be done by authorized service personnel of Elektrobudowa. ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 14

12 3.4. Plug-in panels. Plug-in panel is the way of realisation of the functional unit, elements and subassemblies of which are arranged on a separate mounting plate (or in the enclosure) equipped on the incoming side with isolating contacts (as in withdrawable parts). Power cables are usually connected directly to the terminals of the switch on the plate (indirect power terminals can also be applied), and control cables are connected through terminal block or the coupler. Installation in the section is realised by pushing the contacts onto the distribution busbars of the section and bolting to the frame. In case of heavy panels pushing onto is facilitated by runner rails. The panels have only two positions: connected and disconnected. In the basic design the switchgear must be deenergized before the removal (replacement) of the panel from the section - it is then defined as the fixed part. If the insulation bushing elements which provide degree of protection IP-2X are applied between distribution busbars of the segment and the panel, then it is not necessary to de-energise the switchgear and the panel can be assumed a withdrawable part. Then it is protected against unbolting and removal when the main switch is closed. Units can be housed in separate compartments separated by horizontal shelves and closed with their own doors or mounted in the section without partitions, behind one common door. Dimensions of modules are the multiplication of the basic 25 mm; maximum height is 1700 mm. If the modules are to be separated with a horizontal partition, then extra 25mm should be added to each panel. A typical plug-in panel, which constitutes a complete module, is a narrow-profile (in-line, slim line) switch-fuse. Commonly used are disconnectors type SLM produced by APATOR SA Toruń (license ABB Distribusjon), systematically replaced by more advanced, type SR ones produced by ABB Distribusjon. Because of their features, particularly little space they require, they become a standard which dictate the dimensions and construction of the switchgear. Another group of plug-in panels is represented by units consisting of apparatus on mounting frames. The width of the panels is 550, the same as that of type SR disconnectors and withdrawable parts m1, m2, m3. In the following systems are applied: - modules with compact mccb circuit breakers, - modules with insulated disconnectors, modules with fuseless motor systems. Disconnector type SR 3.5. Connecting and earthing parts. In functional units with DSb circuit breaker, an insulation plate ZU-DSb for main contacts is inserted when the circuit breaker is removed. Terminals are fitted to the busbars of the main conductor; they are used for connecting the brackets of the portable earthing device. For functional units with withdrawable parts of all dimensions m1, m2, m3, etc. suitable closing-earthing units ( zu-m1, zu-m2, zu-m3 etc.) are provided. When the withdrawable part is removed then the closing-earthing part is inserted, which engage and provides earthing for the main contacts on the side of consumer. 13 3.6. Fixed parts of the switchgear. A provision is made in the switchgear for stationary mounting the apparatus, which is accessible after opening the front door. Functional units with fixed parts can be constructed as independent switchgear for simpler distribution systems. They can also constitute a separated part of the switchgear with withdrawable parts. Banks of capacitors can be an example of such mounting. In type switchgears the three kinds of units (withdrawable parts, plug-in panels, fixed parts) can be applied Digital system of control and supervision in 1design One of the essential features of the switchgear, which increases its technical value, is the possibility of cooperation with digital monitoring and control devices. It is a feature of 1 controlgear (version of RNM 2 switchgear) with digital system of control, supervision, measurements and signalling. Units which supply all kinds of drives and circuit breakers in the incoming cubicles of the switchgear are provided with digital supervision system. The system used here is dissipated and uses the internal network PROFIBUS-DP. It is based on SIEMENS apparatus which can work with PROFIBUS-DP network, but other apparatus with interface for this networks can be applied. - protection of the motor against exceeding the admissible currents - protection of the motor against exceeding the temperature rise - detection of earth fault - control of motor with the possibility of selection e.g.: direct start, delta-star reversible work control of damper control of valves SIKOSTART - measurements and recording, e.g.: operating current period of operation number of operations The above functions generally refer to basic module SIMOCODE-DP, in more complicated control systems of incoming units (process inputs) it is necessary to use both basic and expanding modules. Controlling function is performed either from the control-supervision station via network or individual module inputs. In the latter case control of the unit may be realised from its front with the operator s module SIMOCODE or individual pushbuttons. Communication of units of the switchgear with low voltage circuit breaker with the PROFIBUS-DP network is realised: - in case of 3WN6 circuit breakers (630A to 3200A currents) via cb s own communication module and coupling device 3RK1 - in case of 3VF circuit breakers (25A to 820A currents) via basic module SIMOCODE-DP. For units of the switchgear with disconnectors communication with the network is done via PLC controller of the switchgear. If necessary, the 1 switchgear can be equipped with automatic changeover system - SZR, PPZ, SPP. The function is realised by the unit with an autonomous controller which is used only for automatic changeover in the PLC controller of the switchgear. The proposed control system, i.e. the network with the peripheral devices, ensures fast and reliable transfer of control commands, defined by data parameters, evaluation parameters, etc. Provision is also made in the 1 switchgear for light pipe arc protection type ZŁ produced by ENERGOTEST-ENERGOPOMIAR. SIMOCODE-DP modules used in the system (basic and expanding) enable the realisation of the following functions in the units which feed the motor drives (1.25 A and 820A currents): ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 17

14 4. Busbar coupling Application. Coupling cubicles or incoming cubicles are connected to the transformer by coupling busducts produced by ELEKTROBUDOWA SA. Their electrical parameters comply with the parameters of switchgear main circuits, i.e. they are at least equal, or higher. Construction. The rectangular external enclosure is made of aluminium alloy sheet. Busbar connections of the coupling busducts are made of copper flat bar mounted on support insulators IO It is easy to dismount a single insulator without unscrewing the whole conductor. The conductors of the PELPO coupling busduct are connected with the top busbar output of the distribution cubicle with bolted connectors. The inside of the busduct is accessible through inspection holes fixed to the external enclosure with bolts Protection of persons. the external enclosure of the busduct performs the function of the main earthing conductor PE of the coupling connection of the switchgear. The enclosure is connected to the PE conductor of the coupling cubicle via busbar connector bolted on the internal side of the busudct. Covers of inspection holes, on which no other apparatus is mounted, are fixed with bolts and they do not require any other connecting means. ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 18

16 4.5. Busbar coupling between switchgear cubicle transformer. Busduct coupling between incoming cubicles of the switchgear and the transformer which feeds a given section of the switchgear, are connected to the connections of the main circuit breaker and connections of the feeding transformer. One of the most common switchgear feeding systems is the connection of the transformer in the enclosure with nearly situated ACB circuit breaker unit, provided with an attachment on the side of the transformer. The solution is shown on Drwg. 6 In the design of the unit with ACB circuit breaker it is most favourable to lead the transformer connection busbars at the height of 700 to 1200 mm above the floor. The connections with the circuit breaker are the shortest then and part of the space in the attachment can be used for expanding the auxiliary circuits compartment, which sometimes is even necessary. There is no need to provide an attachment when the connection busbars of the transformer are led below 700 mm (below the circuit breaker); the connection is enclosed then. While planning the connections, the following should be considered: - distance between transformer and switchgear - their arrangement (axial alignment, aligned front lines, etc.) - cross-section (dimensions), situation (vertical or horizontal), spacing and holing of transformer connection busbars. When the connection is made by the switchgear manufacturer, it is usually done with flexible connnectors, after measuring the installed equipment on the site. połączenie Fig. 6 Examples of switchgear transformer connections. 17 5. Preparation for transport. On Customer's request the manufacturer may transport and store the switchgear with his own technical means which ensure proper handling and, consequently, good quality and performance of the product. Another advantage of employing the erection team of the manufacturer is the coordination of preparatory activities at the site of installation with the production cycle of the switchgear and further, shortening the time of storage, undesirable for both parties. For the purpose of transport the switchgear is divided into transport units groups of sections which can be moved separately. The dimensions of units depend on the construction of the switchgear and conditions of transport, such as width of door openings, gangways, loading capacity of transport vehicles, etc. Division into transport units is bound with dividing the busbars. It can be done in strictly defined places: - in cable compartment (if applicable) - in an additional attachment box (200 mm for shallow cubicles, 400 mm for deep ones) The width of the unit cannot exceed 3m. The switchgear shall be prepared for transport after the quality acceptance test has been performed by the producer. When the switchgear is transported by the Customer, his representative should participate in the test. The customer shall be informed about the date of the test. I. For transport it is necessary to unbolt the bus connectors in places where the busbars are divided into transport units. The contacting surfaces of joining elements and busbars should be covered with a thin film of white paraffin jelly and the removed connecting parts together with bolts should be placed in a metal or wooden container. Copper elements should be wrapped in paper or corrugated board in order to protect the contacting surfaces against damage. The container should be marked at least with the switchgear name and order number or a code of the switchgear. It should be transported with the switchgear. Disconnected and protected main busbars PE busbar In preparation of transport of the switchgear it is necessary to: - dismantle the switchgear's busbar joints (item I) - disconnect the auxiliary ring circuits (item II) - pull out meters and non-shock resistant apparatus (item III) - set the withdrawable parts in "connected" position and closing the doors (item IV) ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 21

18 II. At the parting line dividing the switchgear into transport units the wires of the auxiliary ring circuits should be disconnected from terminal blocks at one side. The disconnected wires should be provided with markers protected against falling. I. Ring circuits strip IV. Set the withdrawable parts in CONNECTED position (according to the instruction manual). The door of stationary parts of feeder and coupling sections as well as cable and auxiliary circuit compartments should be locked and the keys placed in the container with non shock-resistant apparatus. Operating levers for moving the withdrawable parts should also be packed in this container. All compartment doors should be closed Ring circuits connections disconnected for transport III. Meters and other apparatus which is not shockresistant should be dismounted from the switchgear before transport. The removed equipment should be marked with the number of the functional units to which it belongs on a tag or on an adhesive label stuck to the side of the apparatus. Then the apparatus should be packed in original or substitute packaging and placed in a wooden box. Smaller quantities of equipment can be packed in a cardboard carton. The equipment packed in boxes or cartons should be protected against shock and displacement, e.g. with foamed polystyrene, wooden wool or corrugated cardboards. Containers and boxes should be legibly marked with the name of the switchgear and order number. ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 22

19 6. Loading, transport and unloading of the switchgear. Transport units of the switchgear should be carried to the vehicle by a crane, travelling crane or overhead travelling crane with a load capacity above 1000 kg (for standard design). A unit shall be lifted with the help of belts, the ends of which are fastened to the steel rods inserted into the holes in the foundation frame )Fig. 7) The cargo should be securely fixed and protected against displacement or rubbing. Elements used for fixing cannot cause damaging of switchgear's constructions or paint coating. Transport units should be also protected against weathering, with a protective cover or polyethylene sheathing.. shims ELEKTROBUDOWA s servicing team has special transport trolley which facilitate moving and shifting the transport units. 20 The vehicle used for transport of the switchgear on public roads must have the appropriate load capacity and high stiff sides. The load must be adequately fixed and restrained. Transport is not allowed when temperature falls below -25. The route should provide a secure passing for vehicles 2.3m high, counted from the floor of the carrying body. Fixing of the cargo should be checked after each 100km drive or more frequently on rough roads. Loading, transport and unloading of switchgear's transport units is allowed only in their vertical position. Do not overturn or throw down a transport unit. Containers with apparatus and connecting parts of busbars should be transported together with the unit they belong to. Unloading should be done according to the guidelines for loading. For horizontal transportation a fork lift truck or a suitable platform with suitable dimensions and load capacity should be used. Carriages type WTR, made by Elektrobudowa, equipped with a lift, are recommended. ELEKTROBUDOWA SA 24

21 7. Storage of the switchgear. The acceptable storage period for the switchgear is 9 months; total time of storage and installing cannot exceed 12 months. If the necessity arises to store the switchgear for a longer period, the following must be provided: - the protection against atmospheric corrosion by static air drying in a closed room - protection system SK-10 acc. to. PN-88/H /02 standard - protection of contacting surfaces of busbar connections and those parts of apparatus which are not protected with a coating of grease (acidfree petroleum jelly) and packing (e.g. paraffin or wax paper, plastic film) - temporary, fragmentary protection system SK-5 acc. to PN-88/H /02 standard. Unpacking and storing of switchgear transport units is allowed only in closed, dry and dust-free rooms. The environment should be free from notorious vapours and resemble the conditions in which the switchgear will work. Protective polyethylene covers or sheathing should be eased by removing the tightening elements in order to avoid condensation of moisture when the temperature and humidity of the air change.
