Be sure to position the monitor so that the keys will be easy to reach during combine operation. 3. With the post bracket in this position, mark the position of two of the 1/4 in. holes in the post bracket. 4. Center punch and drill up through the bottom of the vent duct at the marks. 5. Mount the post bracket to the vent duct using the 1/4 x 1 in. bolts provided. 6. Re-assemble the u-bracket and install the monitor unit. 9-3 October

Combine Installation Routing Cab and Power Cables Through Cab Floor Parts required for this procedure: Power cable (the one with the yellow inline fuse holder) Distribution cable ( the one with one large round connector and six smaller connectors on 8 inch wire) Cable ties. Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Fully lower feeder house to allow access to area under the cab. 2. Remove large rectangular panel on the front of the console. 3. From under the cab, loosen or remove the metal clamps that hold foam rubber against the cables passing through the cab floor. 4. From under the cab push the small end of the cable up through a foam rubber seal where most of the wiring enters the cab. 5. Pull the cab cable out through the large rectangular opening in the front of the console. NOTE: There were two types of cable seals used on these combines. If the 24-pin connector is too large to pass through the seal area, push the opposite end of the cab cable (rectangular connector) upward through the seal area from under cab. 6. From inside the cab, push the end of the power cable with 3-pin connector downward through the cable seal area. 7. Under the cab, install the distribution cable on the end of the cab cable by mating the round 24-pin plug into the round 24-pin connector. 8. Connect power cable to distribution cable by mating the 3-pin connector of power cable to matching connector of distribution cable. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology NOTE: All of the connectors on the distribution cable are different, so that you cannot connect the cables incorrectly. Simply match up mating connector types. 9. Push cab and power cables up until there is no excess cable hanging under the cab. 10. Re-install or re-tighten floor seal clamps to hold cab and power cables in position. If the foam rubber does not securely hold the cables, use cable ties to attach them to existing cables inside the console. 11. The relay is accessible through the front opening in the console. Use a voltmeter or test light to verify that you have identified the stud, having 12-volt power with the combine s ignition switch in any position, including OFF. Power or Positive Wire Installed on 12-volt Stud Yellow Fuse Holder in Power Cable Ground or Negative Wire Figure 5. Power Cable Installed on R62 (Similar to Older Machines) 9-5 October

Combine Installation CAUTION: To prevent an electric shock or burns from arcing electricity, do not let your wrench contact other metal parts when installing power wire. 12. Remove nut on the stud with full time 12 volts, then install the terminal that is on the power cable s positive wire (the one with fuse holder). See Figure Route ground wire to floor of the console, then attach ground terminal on bolt where other ground connections are located. 14. Loop and securely tie any excess power cable, in a position inside the console, where it will not be subject to rubbing against sharp edges or moving parts. 15. Reattach the console cover. Fit the console cover by bending up or removing part of bent over lip on the corner near the cab window. This will provide enough space to bring the cable out with cover installed. NOTE: Although not necessary, you can obtain a cleaner looking installation by shaving off some of the inside lip of the plastic door where the cab cable exits. This will cause less bulging of the door over the cable. 16. Route the cab cable forward along the left side of the console. 17. Mount the snap open/snap closed cable clips with and adhesive back to the window along the right side cab post. Use alcohol swabs to clean window before attaching clips. 18. Route cab cable to the monitor using the cable clips. Connect cab cable to monitor. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Installing Header Height Sensor Parts required for this procedure: Header height sensor assembly with integral cable Arm assembly (threaded rod with nuts, lock washers and S-hook) Extension spring with S-hook and 5/16 in. cap screw with Nylock nut. Two 5/16 x 1-1/2 in. cap screws with 15 flat washers and two Nylock nuts Cable ties Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Install threaded rod in the hole in the header sensor pivot shaft, so that about 1-in. of rod is protruding through hole in shaft. Use a nut and a lock washer on each side of the shaft to secure the rod to the shaft. The threaded rod extends to the left as you look at the pivot shaft of the sensor with the cable at the right. 2. Position the S-hook with the spring about 4 or 5 inches back from the front end of the rod (you will not get enough rotation if you put it at the end of the rod). 3. Hold header sensor up against the bottom side of the large tall channeliron, which supports the right-hand side of the cab on rubber mounts. NOTE: Header sensor must be mounted with open end of U-shape frame down, cable towards rear of combine and pivot shaft towards inside or the left of combine. 4. Position sensor the sensor so that its front edge is about 6 inches behind the right-front rubber cab mount. IMPORTANT: If you have to mount the header sensor to the front of the channel-iron support make absolutely sure that the bottom of the sensor does not protrude below the bottom of the channel-iron. If it does, raising the header will crush the sensor. 9-7 October

Combine Installation 5. The top of the sensor housing opposite of the pivot shaft has several punched holes and slots. Make a mark on the cab frame support at the outer ends of the front and rear slots in the center row of slots of header sensor. 6. Center punch and drill two 11/32-in. holes in channel-iron so screws placed through these holes will pass through the end slots of sensor frame. 7. Mount header sensor to the iron channel with 5/16 x 1-1/2 in. screws provided. Install one washer under the head of each screw. Use one washer under each Nylock nut. 8. With the feeder house fully raised, mark the position required for attachment of the S-hook on extension spring to the top of the feeder house. The lower end of the spring should be 4 to 5 in. behind the upper end of the spring with feeder house fully raised. 9. Drill a clearance hole in the top of feeder house for the 5/16-in. screw and attach the lower S-hook to the top of the feeder house with the 5/16 x 1-in. screw and Nylock nut. Insert the 5/16 x 1-in. screw from inside the feeder house. Use pliers to crimp S-hooks tightly around loop on each end of extension spring. 10. Hold sensor pivot shaft with a wrench across the flats and bend the rod upward about 15 degrees, so that the torsion spring in the sensor holds the extension spring tight with the feeder house raised. In this position, the extension spring will be laying only about 30 degrees up from horizontal. 11. Connect header sensor cable to distribution cable. Loop and tie any excess cable in a position to keep it away from sharp edges or moving parts. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Installing Ground Speed Cable Step-by-Step Procedure Parts required for this procedure: Ground speed cable (identified by tag at the end with one connector) Cable ties CAUTION: To prevent death or injury to you or others, ensure you set the parking brake before proceeding. 1. Lower leaf screen behind front axle to allow access to ground drive transmission mounted behind front axle. 2. Locate ground speed sensor on right end of the ground drive transmission. 3. Install the end of ground speed cable that has two connectors between existing wiring harness and ground speed sensor. 4. Route ground speed cable along hydrostatic and gear shifter push/pull cables. Follow these cables forward to the area under the cab. 5. Tie cable securely at 12 to 18 in. intervals. 6. Connect the ground speed cable to the distribution cable, and loop and tie any excess cable. 9-9 October

Combine Installation Installing Elevator Speed Cable Step-by-Step Procedure Parts required for this procedure: Elevator speed cable (identified by tag at the end with two connectors Cable ties 1. Locate the elevator speed sensor on the lower grain cross auger on the left side of the combine. 2. 14 Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Installing Back Cover for R40, R50 The replacement back cover will allow you to obtain the required 1/2 in. or less clearance between the tip of the paddles and the inside of the elevator housing as the paddles rotate around the top of the sprocket. (With the existing back cover, you can only get 1-1/2 in. clearance due to mechanical adjustment limitations). Step-by-Step procedure 1. At the top of the clean grain elevator, remove the existing top cover. 2. At the top of the clean grain elevator, remove the existing back cover by removing the eight 5/16 in. bolts. 3. Install the new back cover in place of the old back cover using the new 5/16-in. bolts, lock washers and nuts. 4. Adjust the top of the grain elevator so there is a 1/2 inch clearance or less between the tip of a paddle and the inside the new back cover as the paddle rotates around the top sprocket. Proceed to Step 1 in the General Step-by-Step Procedure. IMPORTANT: You should never adjust the top shaft of the grain elevator again; if you do, you will lose your calibration accuracy and you will have to recalibrate the yield monitor. New back cover Figure 6. Back cover installed on Gleaner R October

Combine Installation Step-by-Step Procedure for Early N5-N7 1. At the top of the clean grain elevator, remove the existing top cover. 2. Attach the mounting bar and deflector by using two 3/8-x1 in. carriage bolts. The head of the carriage bolt should be on the inside of the deflector so grain can flow smoothly (Figure 7). Mount the U-shaped bar up so the two flat surfaces are together as seen in Figure Place this assembly into the backside of the elevator and push the deflector up against the back housing of the clean grain elevator. 4. Mark the 4 holes on the side of the elevator to mount the mounting bar. These should be about 6 in. from the back of the elevator housing shown in Figure 7. The top edges of the U bracket should be flush or even with the top of the grain elevator housing. 5. Drill the four 11/32 in. holes that are marked to hold the deflectormounting bar in place 6. Mount the U-Shaped bar using the four 5/16 x1 in. hex bolts. Secure the bar so it is flush with the top of the elevator so the deflector is about one inch below top of elevator 7. Push the deflector against the back housing of the elevator. Tighten down the hex nuts so the deflector is secure in the correct position. Proceed to Step 1 in the General Step-by-Step Procedure. Mounting Bar Carriage Bolt Deflector Figure 7. Mounting bar and deflector attached. (Early N5-N7) October

Loosen or remove drive belt for the clean grain elevator so grain elevator paddles rotate freely. 3. Proceed to Step 1 in the General Step-by-Step Procedure October

Combine Installation General Step-by- Step Procedure. 1. Move the paddle chain until a paddle is at the top of the elevator. Ensure paddle is straight up and down. 2. Adjust both adjusting screws (see Figure 9.) for top bearing holders to raise the top shaft to the position where there is only 1/2 in. clearance between the tip of the paddle and the inside of the deflector or back cover. Lock the adjusting screws in this position. NOTE: You may have to disconnect the paddle chain to allow for the top shaft adjustment. IMPORTANT: Failure to complete this adjustment will reduce the accuracy of the monitor. IMPORTANT: Ensure the top shaft is level. Unequal adjustment of the two bearing holders will result in premature bearing failure or severe sprocket wear. 3. Install decal which says Do not Adjust, Use Lower Adjuster on the left side of clean grain elevator housing by the sliding bearing holder (clean the housing of dirt and oil so the decal will adhere properly). IMPORTANT: You should never adjust the top shaft of the grain elevator again. If you do, you will lose your weight calibration accuracy and will have to recalibrate the monitor. 4. With black load cell toward the front of the combine, place the flow sensor assembly on top of clean grain elevator. 5. Push the sensor cover against the right wall of grain tank and center it front-to-back over the elevator housing. With cover held in this position, drill through one hole at the front end and back end of the cover. 6. Install the provided 1/4 x 1-in. cap screw with Nylock nut in each of these two holes to hold the cover firmly in position. Drill through the remaining four holes in the cover and install the remaining cap screws and Nylock nuts. See Figure 10. October

Follow this wiring leftward on the front of the grain tank, to a position even with the right side of the cab. 9. Route the cables up and over the grain tank extension and down the outside of the front wall of the grain tank next to the right side of cab. 10. Install adhesive snap open/closed clips on the grain tank extension and the front of the tank to hold the cables securely. Use cable ties to secure the flow cable every 12 to 14 in. as it is routed inside the grain tank. IMPORTANT: Leave enough slack in the cable to prevent stretching or breaking when the grain tank extension is folded down. 11. Route cable downward behind cab. Route cable forwards along right side of bottom of cab to distribution cable. 12. Connect flow sensor cables to the distribution cable, and loop and securely tie any excess cable. NOTE: The elevator drive belt will be tightened after installation of the Elevator Adjuster in the next procedure. October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Ag Leader Technology Installing Elevator Adjuster The lower elevator adjuster must be installed at lower end of the clean grain elevator. This provides an alternate method of adjusting chain slack, so the top shaft of the elevator remains in a fixed position. IMPORTANT: You MUST install this adjuster. If you don t, your grain weight calibration will change every time you move the top shaft to adjust slack in the elevator chain. IMPORTANT: If the elevator chain and top drive sprocket have several years of use on them, it is recommended that they be replaced at this time. If these parts are changed at a latter date, it WILL affect the calibration of the monitor. Parts required for this procedure: Lower Elevator Adjuster assembly 1.25-S bearing (same as existing bearings) Metal drill template 13/32 in. transfer punch, 13/32 in. drill bit and 5/16 in. square file (all provided) 3/8 in. or larger electric drill Half-link for chain Step-by-Step Procedure 1. 23 Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Installing Moisture Sensor in Auger IMPORTANT: These instructions are for mounting the moisture sensor in the grain tank loading auger. If you purchased an elevator mount kit for installing moisture sensor on side of clean grain elevator, ignore the following instructions. Installation instructions for the elevator mount kit is included in the kit. NOTE: It is recommended to mount the moisture sensor using the Elevator Mount kit. This prevents cutting your auger flighting and greatly reduces buildup of material on the moisture sensor. Installing the moisture sensor on the bottom of the loading auger inside the grain tank requires removing 6-1/2 in. of auger flighting from the center of the auger. Parts required for this procedure: Moisture sensor Moisture sensor cutout template and clearance gauge Marking pen Long (32 to 39 in.) stainless steel clamps Cable ties Electric drill and drill bits Saber saw with metal cutting blade Hacksaw or torch for cutting auger flighting Handheld grinder October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Ag Leader Technology Step-by-Step Procedure 1. With the top auger bearing holding the auger in its operating position relative to the tube, remove the loading auger and tube. 2. On bottom side of auger tube, make a mark 12-in. from the discharge end of the tube. Place cutout template on the auger so it is centered on this mark and mark the sensor opening (5-11/16-x 1-11/16 in.), as shown in Figure 13. Figure 13. Marking Outline of Sensor Opening on Auger Tube 3. Drill one or more starting holes for the saber saw blade then cut the sensor opening as shown in Figure October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Figure 14. Cutting Sensor Opening in Auger Tube NOTE: Do not cut this hole with a torch. 4. Cut hole in the tube as accurately as possible. NOTE: It is good to avoid excess clearance around the plastic sensor housing, since any such clearance will collect fine material that will affect the accuracy of the sensor 5. After cutting the opening, see that the raised portion of the plastic part of the moisture housing fits into opening. If it does not, use a file to enlarge the opening until the sensor just fits. 6. Rotate the auger inside the tube to align the outside edge of the auger with one end of the sensor opening and mark the auger, as shown in Figure 15 IMPORTANT: The auger must be in its normal operating position relative to the tube when you make these marks. October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Ag Leader Technology Figure 15. Marking Auger at Ends of Sensor Opening 7. Remove the auger from the tube. Mark the auger flighting 3/8-in. outside each of the original marks (3/8 in. lengthwise on the auger, NOT 3/8-in. along the spiral outside diameter of the flighting). Mark the flighting for cutting at these positions, which should be about 6-1/2 in. apart lengthwise on the auger. NOTE: Before cutting the flighting, weld it to the auger shaft just outside of each cut mark. 8. Use a hacksaw or torch to remove the 6-1/2 in. length of flighting all the way down to the auger shaft. See Figure 16. Use a grinder or file to smooth off the cut edges of the flighting October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Figure 16. Auger with 6-1/2 in. of flighting removed 9. Re-install auger into tube and install top bearing to hold the auger in its operating position. 10. Hold the sensor clearance gauge in the sensor opening as shown in Figure 17, and rotate the auger to make sure that it clears the gauge. NOTE: If the flighting hits the gauge, additional flighting must be removed to ensure that the moisture sensor will not be damaged. October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Ag Leader Technology Figure 17. Sensor Clearance Gauge in Sensor Opening 10. Place moisture sensor in the opening and clamp it to the tube with one of the long clamps provided, as shown in Figure 18. NOTE: Install the sensor with the direction of grain flow arrow pointing towards the top end of auger (sensor cable will be toward the bottom end of auger). 11. Drill a hole for a sheet metal screw about 90 degrees from the sensor opening and attach the ground strap, as shown in Figure October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Long Clamp Ground Strap Figure 18. Moisture Sensor Installed on Auger Tube 13. Remove the moisture sensor from the auger tube and re-install the auger and tube in the combine. 14. Re-install the moisture sensor onto the auger and route its cable along the grain flow sensor cable to reach the distribution cable (the one which splits the large 24-pin connector out into six small connectors). 15. Tie the cable securely to keep it away from sharp edges and to prevent it from being pulled down, as grain is unloaded from the grain tank. NOTE: To tie the cable to the auger tube either: Join two or more long wire ties end-to-end to allow them to each around the tube OR Use the extra steel clamp provide (be careful not to cut the cable by clamping it too hard). October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Ag Leader Technology 16. Route moisture cable to distribution cable. Connect moisture sensor cable to distribution cable. Plug the moisture sensor cable into this connector, and loop and tie any excess cable away from moving parts. Final Inspection Installation is now complete. Do a walk around of the combine and complete the following: All cable connections have been made. Excess cable has been tied out of the way, so there is no interference. All tools have been removed from the combine. All cap screws and carriage bolts are tight. (c) The lower-right display should show 0.0 AV/B/A. 3. Push the FLOW key twice to display Elevator RPM. (a) Verify that elevator RPM stays at 0 with the separator and header OFF. (b) Engage the separator and verify that the monitor measures elevator RPM. It should be between 400 and 450 RPM at full engine speed. NOTE: On some combine models, the header must be engaged to get an elevator speed signal. If you do not get an elevator RPM reading, engage the header drive. October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R70 Ag Leader Technology 4. Move the combine slowly to verify that the monitor measures MPH at low speeds (below 1mph). NOTE: MPH will not agree with the combine s monitor, because the yield monitor has not been calibrated to your combine. 5. Start the separator with the combine at rest and verify that the monitor reads 0.0 MPH. 6. Place the feeder house at about mid-height. 7. Place the AREA COUNT switch in the UP position. 8. Select STOP HEIGHT on the top display. 9. If the red AREA COUNT light is ON, increase the stop height displayed on the top line (using the UP ARROW key for the top display) until the light goes out. 1. If the AREA COUNT light is OFF, decrease the stop height displayed until the light comes on. 2. Verify that the AREA COUNT light goes out as the head is dropped slightly below the original position and comes on as the head is slightly above the original position. NOTE: Use small up and down head movements for this check. If you use large motions, it may appear that the head moves too far before the light changes, because there can be up to a 1 second delay before the monitor gets to the point in its program cycle where it checks header height October

Installation Gleaner N5-N7, R5-R7, R60, R Check for proper connection of the moisture sensor as follows (a) Turn On the Yield Monitor (b) Set MOIST = AUTO under the MOIST key. (c) Press the MOIST key five times to display temperature, which should show a number within a few degrees of the actual ambient temperature. (d) If you know the temperature in the area of the moisture sensor accurately, you can adjust the temperature readout with the lower-left UP or DOWN ARROW keys. (e) If you do not get a reasonable temperature reading (it will indicate 20 DEG F if the sensor is not connected), recheck the connections. Call Ag Leader Technology at if you have a problem and cannot find it. NOTE: You cannot get a moisture reading until there is grain flowing through the combine. Also, you will only see the AVG% display when there is no grain flow. *** October
