2 Installation It is recommended that you place the strut compressor in an adequately-sized and well-lit area. The general conditions of the work place will help to prevent accidents. Connect the compressor to the compressed air system, making sure that the pressure is between lbs. Warnings Make sure the strut compressor is placed on a level surface. Before beginning the actual operation of the strut compressor, for the first time, it is highly recommended that you cycle the piston, in order to balance the pressure inside the cylinder, thus avoiding an abrupt thrust. Before starting the compression of the spring, make sure that the spring is locked correctly by the opposite hooks. We don t assume any liability for damages caused by improper use of the strut compressor including using it for something other than its intended use. This is a professional instrument and should only be operated by qualified personnel. The strut compressor has a safety device that prevents any operation if the safety cage has not been lowered. 3 Operating Instructions 1. Press the foot control pedal to actuate the air cylinder for spring compression. 2. Lift the safety cage. 3. Inset the strut assembly into the compressor, putting the spring s low coil into the low left hook. 4. Adjust the lower right arm according to the diameter of the spring and turn the adjusting screw until the strut assembly is straight up and down.

4 5. Adjust the upper left hook so that it captures the coil spring at the highest point. 6. Adjust the upper right hook so that it captures the coil spring at the highest point. 7. Swing and lift the support plate making sure that it contacts the bottom of the strut assembly. 8. Lower the safety cage.

5 9. Press the foot control lever and using the open palm of your hands hold the top left and right arms against the spring; slowly compress the spring until solid contact is made on all four spring holders. REMOVE YOUR HANDS from the area inside the safety cage then compress the spring as necessary to free the stem from the strut assembly. 10. Unscrew the shock absorber nut. Unthread the stem of the shock absorber lowering the support plate. 11. Insert the new shock absorber in the compressed coil spring taking care that the lower coil of the spring is seated on the step of the lower seat. Lift the support plate making sure that it adheres to the low part of the strut assembly. 12. Lock the cap and any attachment on the new shock absorber.

6 13. Press the foot control lever to decompress the spring and verify that the cap and any attachments adhere to the spring in the right position. 14. Lift the safety cage and remove the strut assembly. Additional Top Clamp Instructions 1. Remove top hooks by turning outward until key and keyway align. Hooks will slip off.

7 2. Reverse sequence to install duck feet top adaptor clamps. Raise adjustment slides as far as they will go. 3. Insert strut assembly with adaptors on top of housing capturing at least one stud as shown. Compress spring normally making sure adaptors are securely positioned. Notes: 1. The greater distance vertically between the upper and lower hooks, the easier it is for the unit to compress the spring. On heavier springs using the duck feet instead of the top hooks helps maximize the distance between clamps. 2. When compressing an empty spring, if the spring begins to bow STOP and reset the clamps closer together. A spring that bows can escape the claws. 3. This machine is supplied with 2 styles of spring hooks, a single finger and a double finger. Use one single and one double on top arms and the same on lower arms. 4. An additional airline for and accessory like an impact wrench can be added to the air inlet T. Remove the plug from the back of the brass T and insert an airline with a ¼ npt male fitting.

8 Maintenance Routine Maintenance Verify periodically that all screws are tight on the strut compressor. The valve/cylinder unit doesn t need special maintenance, but good air lubrication can greatly reduce the wear and tear of the gaskets, and a good filtration of the same prevents accumulation of dust and the consequent malfunctioning. For cleaning the parts in movement simply use compressed air.
