2 Read these instructions carefully and completely before beginning installation. For assistance, contact Technical Support at (South Korea), or Before Installation Important things to know prior to installing Sunil Telecom s Fiber Optic Splice Enclosure. ALERT! This product must be installed and maintained only by qualified technicians. Verify all connections meet requirements specified in local electric codes or operating company guidelines. Only use components and crimping tools approved by agencies or certifying bodies recognized in your country or region, such as Underwriter s Laboratories(UL) or TUV. Contents The STC-HTM Splice Enclosure ships with the following components. 1. Use only appropriate tools and devices for closure assembly. When assembling the upper and lower halves of the splice enclosure, use the enclosed T-wrench or a clutched electric drill/driver. Do not overtighten. Do not use an electric drill/driver to assemble the saddles as this will likely cause damage to the cables or optical attenuation. 2. Spread the enclosed vaccum grease evenly in the enclosure groove and between the cable gasket and enclosure as described in the instructions. This grease is a lubricant for the gasket, not a sealant; do not overuse. 3. When fiber splicing is complete, do not pack extra parts inside the closure for future use. 1. Upper enclosure 9. 3 Installation [1] Cut off and discard one meter (~39.4 in.) of cable to remove dirty or otherwise compromised fiber optic cables. Clean all dirt, grime and debris from the end of the cable to be spliced. [4] Slip the cable gasket onto the cable about 15 cm (~2.4 in.) from the marker tape. [2] Use a piece of PVC tape to mark the 1.5 meters(~59.1 in.) of cable sheath to be removed. [5] Remove the cable sheath using a sheath stripper. ALERT! Avoid inadvertent cutting or bending of the cable while peeling off the sheath. [3] [6] Measure the outside diameter of the cable and locate the appropriately-sized cable gasket for the cable. Select cable gaskets match with the marks A, B, C or D written in gauge plate. Select a cable gasket marked E when the cable diameter is larger than any entry of the gauge plate. Cut the sheath from the cable and remove the marker tape. There should be no scratches on the unpeeled cable sheath. If there is, remove additional sheath. 4 5

4 [7] For ribbon cables, skip to step [8]. For loose tube cables: (a) Cut off the strength member, leaving the length of below remaining. (d) Install the grounding lug. If the cable diamer is Less than 17mm : Cut at mark A (44mm) Over 17mm : cut a mark B (62mm) (b) Strip off loose tube casing, leaving 3cm (~3.9 in.) remaining. Clean the optical fibers with a jelly cleaner. (e) Wrap the grounding lug with insulating PVC tape. (c). Carefully add protection tubes where each loose tube was removed. Skip to step [9]. 6 7

5 [8] For ribbon cables : (a) Remove the ribbon slot and strength member, leaving 10 cm (~3.94 in.) remaining. (d) Carefully insert the ribbon fibers through the protection tubes. (b) Cut off the strength member, leaving the length of below remaining. (e) install the grounding lug and wrap it up with insulating PVC tape. If the cable diamer is Less than 17mm : Cut at mark A (44mm) Over 17mm : cut a mark B (62mm) (c) Fix a ribbon slot adapter through the strength member and and carefully insert the ribbon fibers into each slot. 8 9

6 [9] [12] Unscrew the bolt that fixing tray holder and lift the trays up. Place inner cable clamp on the assembled cable and then screw the bolts so that the cable would not move. Note: screw each side of the clamp down a little at a time so the clamp goes on straight. [10] [13] Insert the strength member through the hole at the end of the inner cable clamp. Then screw the bolt tightely. Place inner cable clamp on the assembled cable and then screw the bolts. Note: screw each side of the clamp down a little at a time so the clamp goes on straight. Fasten the cable and the clamp together using a large cable tie. [11] Apply vacuum grease around the exterior of the cable gasket. And then insert the assembled cable with cable clamp and gasket into the lower half of the enclosure as shown left. [14] Arrange the tubes in order neately using cable holders in a lower half of enclosure

7 [15] Settle down the trays and screw again the bolt of tray holder. [18] When fiber splicing completed, cover each splice tray with transparent film and put marks or descriptions on it. [16] Uncover the transparent film of the splice tray. Insert the fibers through the guidance of splice tray. [19] Make sure trays and cable clamps are fixed securely. Spread vacuum grease around the cable gaskets and the enclosure gasket. [17] After Splicing the fibers, put the splice sleeve into each splice slot in the center of the tray. Be sure to put all the sleeves according to the figures written beside the splice slot. 2 sleeves could be put in each splice slot. [20] Make the top half of the enclosure to the bottom, ensuring the guide pins line up and that nothing is obstructing the gasket. Install the mounting bracket in the grooves at the edge of the bottom half of the enclosure, using either side as appropriate to your wiring configuration. Tighten the screws securely without overtightening

8 [21] Check for air tightness by charging with nitrogen gas or dry air at 6 PSI. If the enclosure leaks, open it and: 1Ensure all six cable gaskets are properly seated and greased. 2Ensure nothing is obstructing the enclosure gasket, like a stray wire tie. 3Ensure the enclosure gasket is properly seated and not twisted. 4Reassemble the enclosure and recheck for air tightness. Intermediary branch-out [a] Locate the appropriately-sized cable gasket for the branch-out cable (refer to installation step [3]). Cut one part of the cable gasket along the slightely protruded line. [22] Install the enclosure a. For an aerial mount to messenger cable, use the smaller mounting bracket holes. [b] Apply vacuum grease around the exterior of the cable gasket and place the branchout cable inside it. Follow through installation from step [5] to step [18]. [c] b. For an underground mount to pipe or conduit, insert the mounting pipe into the larger mounting bracket holes. Arrange uncut loose tubes inside the lower half of enclosure. Secure excess cable into a circle with cable ties. Follow through installation from step [19] to step [22]

Arrange excess cable in a circle on the both sides of the tray. 2. Insert 1 connector(sleeve) into each splice-slot. 3. A splice-slot holds up to 2 connectors. 1.
