0312 There are four threepoint seat belts (driver s, front passenger s, rear left and rear right) and one twopoint seat belt (rear center). The front seat belts have the pretensioner. When a severe frontal impact occurs, seat belt pretensioners rewind the seat belts immediately to restrain the occupants to their seats. It helps the effective operation of the seat belts and airbags. Front seat belt (driver s, front passenger s) Type: Threepoint type Installed Removed A. Pretensioner B. 14 0314 Pretensioner The seat belt pretensioner is a unit to retract the seat belt instantly by igniting the inflator in the pretensioner when the front air bag system is activated. It also increases safety effect of the seat belt by limiting the front seat occupants from moving forward and keeping occupants in correct posture. The load limiter is also installed to reduce chest impact to a front seat occupant by loosening the seat belt while maintaining the force applied by the seat belt uniformly when the pretensioner retracts the seat belt instantly. The seat belt pretensioner operates first, and then the load limiter operates. Driver s Height Adjuster It is to improve comfort and optimize restrictive performance in case of a collision by adjusting the belt position to the occupant's shoulder. Front passenger s Pretensioner
Basic Operating Process Working Diagram Operation 1. Initial position Tha gap netween roller and sleeve is maintained. Thus, the sleeve transfers the reel spring torque to the spool when it is rotated. Rotation of sleeve 2. Inflator ignited (inner clutch engaged) MGG is ignited and the piston moves up by the gas pressure. The rack gear is engaged to the piston. This changes the linear movement to rotational movement. When the piston is rotating, the roller moves to shaft according to the cam shape of pinion. At this moment, the clutch is engaged. The combined set of pinion, sleeve and spool rotates as a set. 3. Piston moved to top position The piston moves up by the gas pressure and pulls in the belt by rotating the spool. 4. Load limiter operated (rack moved to opposite direction) If the shaft torsion starts to deformed due to increased load to the passenger, the spool and pinion (clutch assembly) rotates in reverse and the psiton moves down. The psiton moves down when the residual pressure is eliminated through vent hole. If it reaches to the bottom, the pinion is disengaged and rotates freely.
0316 1) Types of Child Restraint System There are 2 securing types for the child restraint system. By using seat belt By using ISOFIX (for the vehicle with ISOFIX system) 2) Securing the Child Restraint Seat (Normal Baby Seat) Item Weight Age Fixing method Rear left/right seat Driver seat/rear center seat Reversed seat < 10kg 6 to 9 months Seat belt U/SU X < 13kg 12 to 15 months Seat belt U/SU X Forward seat 9 to 18kg 9 to 48 months Seatbelt/ U/UF/SU X ISOFIX Booster seat 15 to 25 kg 4 to 6 years Seat belt U X Booster cushion 22 to 36 kg 6 to 11 years Seat belt U X U: General child restraint system which should be fixed with the seat belt approved by official institute. UF/ SU: General child restraint system which should be fixed with the ISOFIX approved by official/semiofficial institute. X: Seat which is not allowed to use child restraint system.
) Securing a Child Seat with ISOFIX System How to use the ISOFIXLower Latch Anchor (3) ISOFIX child restrain The ISOFIX lower latch anchors are located in the left and right outboard rear seating positions. Their locations (1) are shown in the illustration. Insert the child restraint attachments into the ISOFIX lower latch anchors until it clicks. Do not use the seat belt for installing the ISOFIX child restraint. There is no ISOFIX lower latch anchor provided for the center rear seating position. (1) ISOFIX mark (2) Latch anchor When using the ISOFIX lower latch system, all unused vehicle rear seat belt metal latch plates or tabs must be latched securely in their seat belt buckles and the seat belt webbing must be retracted behind the child restraint to prevent the child from reaching and taking hold of unretracted seat belts. Unlatched metal latch plates or tabs may allow the child to reach the unretracted seat belts which may result in strangulation and a serious injury or death to the child in the child restraint. Child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand only those loads imposed by correctly fitted child restraints. Under no circumstances are they to be used for adult seat belts or harnesses or for attaching other items or equipment to the vehicle.
0318 How to use the Rear Anchor Two rear anchors are located on the rear wall. Connect the tether connector in child restraint to the rear anchor. Securely tighten the child restraint by adjusting the webbing of the tether connector. Child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand only those loads imposed by correctly fitted child restraints. Make sure to use the lower latch anchors and rear anchor together when installing the ISOFIX child restraint. Insert the child restraint attachments into the ISOFIX lower latch anchors until it clicks. The tether strap may not work properly if attached somewhere other than the correct rear tether anchor. If the child restraint is not anchored properly, the risk of a child being seriously injured or killed in a collision greatly increases. When using the ISOFIX lower latch anchors, make sure that no interference are around the bar and the seat belt is not stuck. Rock the child restraint to check if it is securely installed. Refer to instructions provided by the manufacturer of the child restraint. Do not install the child restraint if it hinders the operations of front seat.
