Introduction of Valor TPMS-203 (With transceiver) Why TPMS Introduction of Valor TPMS Target Market Functions Characteristics Operation Comparison with Other TPMS Awards & Certificates Benefit from Valor TPMS
Why TPMS?
Truck fleets recognize that tires are "capital goods" for them. The deficiency of pressure is 0.6 bar, the rolling resistance increases by 20%, which can increase fuel consumption by 6% and overall expenditure by close to 2 %. Professional tire resource management, therefore, can significantly lower operating cost-per-mile. *Source: Michelin
Accident Caused By Under-inflated Tire Approximate 75% of all running tires are underinflated. -U.S.A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration An estimated 23,464 crashes and 535 fatal crashes annually involve blowouts or flat tires. -The Fatality Analysis Reporting System of USA
Tire Loss A tire 20% underinflated has a running life 30% less 30% underinflated has a running life 45% less 20% overinflated has a running life 10% less Decreased Tire Life with Lower Pressure (Source: Continental Tires)
According to Continental Tires research, we assume that: * Average yearly tire loss is between 15%; *There is around 15% from blow-out, 80% of blow-out is from under-inflated; *TPMS can help fleet to extend tire life at least 20%; *Average price of a truck tire is EUR Thus, a wheel fleet would save: 21.6 pcs blow-out tires which are worth 6,480 EURO; Tire life about 30.6 pcs which are worth 9,180 EURO. * Therefore With TPMS Whole fleet can save: (6, ,180) = 15,660EURO/year on tires EURO of tire saving for one truck in one year.
Fuel Loss This Figure has shown us that the corresponding effect of inflation pressure on the fuel consumption of a typical tractor-trailer at 55 MPH on a level highway. 20% percent under-inflation of tires results in about a 3 percent decrease.
According to Goodyear s research, we assume that: * 50% of a year is running under-inflated * Fuel Consumption (Without TPMS): 39.2 L/ 100km * Avg. Annual Fuel Consumption : 6,6640 L * Fuel Cost Per Year: 85,299.2 (1.28 /L Avg. retail price per litre in Europe October 2008) A 100 vehicles fleet covering an average of 170,000 km each per year would save: 100 x 85,299.2 x 50% x3 %=127,949
It is difficult to visually determine the under-inflated level, as the 30% pressure lower looks like proper inflated tire. -Office of Crash Avoidance Standards, NHTSA 100% Inflation 70% Inflation TPMS provides an early warning on abnormal pressure & temperature!
Introduction
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) for trucks and buses is a valuable vehicle safety device that drivers should always consider. Valor TPMS provide peace of mind and safety, maximize fuel savings and tire life, and environment-friendly. Savings Safety Environment
Valor TPMS-203 has been developed specifically for the challenges of tire pressure monitoring on large-scale and multi-wheeled fleets operating in fast-moving logistics. Each battery-powered wheel transmitter installed inside the tire measuring the pressure and temperature every 4 seconds, the data of tractor wheels are sent to display directly, the data of trailer wheels are sent to transceiver which transfer to display wirelessly. The integrated display evaluates the data, identifies the transmitter and decides whether or not the driver needs to be informed. Each display has an exclusive ID register, they have same ID code. The ID register is used to send the ID code to transceiver so that the transceiver can confirm which display it should transfer data to. 15 Target Market
Valor TPMS-203 is applied for: Medium and heavy duty trucks Trucks with trailers Specialty vehicles Buses
Principle of TPMS-203
Principle of TPMS-203 TPMS is abbreviation of Tire Pressure Monitoring System, it s a reliable proactive safety device which always monitors pressure and temperature of each tire in both driving and parking. If the sensor gets the abnormal conditions such as high pressure, low pressure, high temperature and leakage, it will immediately send signal to receiver wirelessly, then the display gives driver an alarm of danger. The system consists of receiver-display, transmitter, transceiver, ID register and antenna.
Components Display Transmitter Transceiver ID Register Antenna
Principle of Transmitter (or Sensor) Transmitter consists of temperature & pressure sensor, MCU, RF transmitter and battery, They are integrated in one plastic housing. The sensor in transmitter detects changes of tire pressure and temperature, transforms the changes to electrical data through electrical components, then MCU transforms the electrical data and the ID code to digital signal, which the RF transmitter sent out. The transmitter could be triggered when it detects the pressure lower than settings. Battery RF Transmitter MCU pressure and Temp. Sensor Fixed in rim channel
Principle of Transceiver Transceiver consists of MCU, RF receiver, RF transmitter and ID module, They are integrated in one plastic housing. The RF receiver receiving digital signal sent by transmitter and transfer it to MCU which will demodulate the signal, then the RF transmitter will send it out to display together with the ID number of trailer transmitters. Receiving RF Receiver ID Module MCU Power 12V / 24V RF Transmitter Transmitting
Principle of Receiver and Display The receiver and display is integrated, the receiver receives signal from transmitter via antenna and demodulate it, then the display shows the data, the process is controlled by MCU. When the received pressure and temperature is lower or greater than the setting value, MCU will order the display to warn the driver by lighting or sound. Driver then could take positive actions. There are at least 6 sensors in the truck to transmit data, that is, the receiver will get data from multiple sources at the same time. Each sensor has a corresponding ID module in the MCU, so the receiver can get the right data of each corresponding tires. Antenna Receiver Power 12V or 24V ID MODULE MCU Display
Functions
Display In order to make drivers in heavy-vehicles can see the displayed pressure and temperature more clearly and conveniently, we designed a large display with large digits. tire position switch pressure & temp. switch Pressure unit Leakage symbol pressure and temperature warning symbol Temperature unit
Display in Normal Condition The display will monitor tires 24 hours and show each axle tires pressure for 5 seconds and automatically switch to next axle when all tires are normal. If you want to check all tires temperature, please shortly press the Pressure & Temperature Switch, the display begins to show the temperature of each axle circularly. Press the Pressure & Temperature Switch to shift pressure interface and temperature interface from each other. Pressure Interface Temperature Interface
Low Pressure Warning When current pressure in the tire is 20% lower than baseline pressure: 1 Display show the pressure of axle with abnormal tire; 2Warning sound Di-Di ; 3Abnormality icon appears; 4The digits of abnormal wheel position twinkle. The figure shows 2C tire is underinflated. The display will always show the axle 2 until the problems are corrected.
High Pressure Warning When current pressure in the tire is 30% higher than baseline pressure: 1Display show the pressure of axle with abnormal tire; 2Warning sound Di-Di ; 3 Abnormality icon appears; 4The digits of abnormal wheel position twinkle. The figure shows 2D tire is over-inflated. The display will always show the axle 2 until the problems are corrected.
High Temperature Warning When temperature inside tire is higher than 80 (176 ): 1Display show the temperature of axle with abnormal tire; 2Warning sound Di-Di ; 3Abnormality icon appears; 4The digits of abnormal wheel position twinkle. The figure shows 2B tire is over-hot. The display will always show the axle 1 until the problems are corrected.
Leakage Warning When 0.33 Bar is lost from the tire in 16 seconds: 1Display show the pressure of axle with abnormal tire; 2Warning sound Di-Di ; 3Leakage icon appears; 4 The digits of abnormal wheel position twinkle. The figure shows 2B tire is leaking. The display will always show the axle 2 and until the problems are corrected.
System Characteristics
Tire Identification--ID Module Technology Why do we need tire identification? When tire pressure sensor was replaced or a spare tire is mounted, the new sensor will be in an asleep mode. To wake up sensor, it must be registered. Each time a wheel sensor rotation occurs, the tire pressure sensors must be relearned. If a tire and wheel rotation is not followed by the relearned procedure, the system will not properly inform the driver with the correct location on the vehicle for a low or high pressure tire.
Valor TPMS ID Module Technology Each transmitter has a corresponding ID module, they have same exclusive ID code, such as 01EB327F. The ID module is installed in the back of display or in the transceiver to register the ID code and identify the tire position.
Digitire TPMS ID Module Technology ----position relation between display and ID module seat 1A 1B 1C 1D 2A 2B 2C 2D 3A 3B 3C 3D Axle 1 Axle 2 Axle 3 A B C D Axle 4 Axle 5 Axle 6 6 axles
---- Position of ID modules and transmitters No transceiver for straight vehicles/buses/otr vehicles
For trucks with trailers, install tractor ID modules in the display and trailer ID modules in the transceiver.
Identification The ID code together with the tire pressure and temperature will be sent to display, which will match the transmitter with its corresponding ID module. Rotation The ID module position resembles tire s position as the pictures above, if you interchange wheel position, you should also interchange the position of ID module. For example, if you interchange wheel 1C and 4C, you should also interchange the position of ID module 1C and 4C. Change Transmitter When you replace a sensor, first install the new sensor in the wheel, then plug the ID module came with the sensor in the corresponding position. For example, if you replace the sensor in wheel 2D, you should plug the new ID module in the position 2D.
The Merit of ID Module Technology Recalibration or complicated setup is unnecessary when doing tire rotation or changing transmitter.
High Anti-interference Ability All tires transmitting data at the same time will interference each other. Our program can effectively reduce these data interference to about 3%.
High Reliability of Signal High-performance chip and highfrequency circuit ensure the high quality transmitting and receiving of signal even in high driving speed. The transmitting and receiving of the signal are stable at highest speed of 250km/h.
Low Energy Consumption High-quality cell and extremely optimized circuit design guarantees the battery life up to 5 years. 5 years
Pressure Measuring Range Using pressure sensor provided by famous sensor supplier GE which have a measuring range of 0-13bar(0-188psi) to satisfy different kinds of model.
Operation
Setup the Baseline Pressure It s necessary to set baseline pressure on the following conditions: 1 First use of product. 2 Replace transmitter and ID module. Both tractor and trailer need to be set up The baseline pressure has been set in the factory at 4Bar (58PSI) for all wheel positions. We recommend that you set the baseline pressure at the same pressure as standard cold inflation pressure recommended by tire manufacturer.
Setup the Baseline Pressure of Tractor 1. Inflate all tires pressure to the standard cold inflation pressure. 2. Press the SET KEY for five seconds, you will hear sound beep, all backlights are on, the screens show 000, which means you succeed in deleting the old baseline pressure. 3. Go next step---setup the baseline pressure of trailer. Set Key
Setup the Baseline Pressure of Trailer 1. Inflate all tires pressure to the standard cold inflation pressure. 2. Turn on the transceiver. 3. Press the SET key for five seconds, you will hear sound beep.., the green light is on, which means you succeed in deleting the old baseline pressure. The display & transceiver will exit setup mode automatically after receiving signal from transmitter. The first pressure value received will be saved as new baseline pressure automatically.
Restart the System The system has to be restarted to re-identify the ID module in the following situations: 1) Tire rotation; 2) Trailer interchange; 3) Replace transmitter & ID module; To restart the system, please first turn off the display and transceiver and then turn on again. Restart Key
Trailer Change Because the connection between tractor and trailer is wireless, so trailer change is very easy: disconnect trailer 1 and turn off transceiver, then connect trailer 2 and turn on transceiver. Restart the system.
Installation
Installation of Display Fix the cupule pedestal on the back of display, wipe off any dirt on the windshield and fix the cupule pedestal on the windshield by pressing the cupule tightly, make sure it s in driver s field of vision.
Installation of Transmitter 1. Loose the steel strap. Wrap the strap around the rim in the lowest spot and mark it 5 cm (2 ) past worm gear (see Figure 1). 2. Cut the extra strap tapered and rasp away the edge (see Figure 2). Figure 1 Figure 2
3. Install the tapered end of the strap through the opening of the cradle. Remove the adhesive tape liner from cradle. Keep the strap parallel with the wheel flange and ensure the strap is positioned in the lowest spot possible for correct transmitter and cradle retention. 4. Position worm gear 8 (10 cm) away from the edge of the sensor and tighten worm gear until the sensor can not be moved (see figure 4). Figure 3 Figure 4
Installation of Cables Connect the power wire and antenna extension cable with display. Place the cable underneath the rubber layer around the edge of windshield towards circuit box and chassis respectively.
