3 Quick Troubleshooting Procedures (Continued 5) BNF FACEPLATE LEDS 1ST AND 2ND ROW LEDS BLINK 10 TIMES This situation indicates that a Cash Box Removal Error has occurred. Run Performance Tests # 18 and # 19 (the Bill Acceptance Tests). If these tests fail, perform one or all of the following: Check inside the Cash Box Replace harness # Replace the Stacker/Cash Box Sensor Circuit Board BNF FACEPLATE LEDS 1ST AND 2ND ROW LEDS BLINK 11 TIMES This situation indicates that a Stacker Home Jam has occurred. Run Performance Test # 9 (the Stacker Clamp Plate Up/Down Test). If the test fails, run Performance Test # 13 (the WBA Unit Stacker Home Sensor Test). If Tests # 13 passes, perform one or all of the following: Replace harness # A-02 Replace the CPU Board Replace the Stacker Motor. If Tests # 13 fails, perform one or all of the following: Replace harness # Replace the Stacker/Cash Box Sensor Circuit Board BNF FACEPLATE LEDS 1ST AND 2ND ROW LEDS BLINK 12 TIMES This situation indicates that a Solenoid Error has occurred. Run Performance Test # 8 (the Solenoid Test). If the test fails, run Performance Test # 13 (the WBA Unit Solenoid Lever Sensor Test). If Tests # 13 passes, perform one or all of the following: Replace Solenoid Harness Replace the Solenoid If Tests # 13 fails, perform one or all of the following: Replace Solenoid Harness Replace the Solenoid Sensor Circuit Board SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Observe the following safety precautions when working with the BNF-2000 Bill Acceptor Unit: Be sure to turn the power OFF before plugging or unplugging connectors Close the units of each transport path when applying power. When closing the unit sections, ensure they click into place Make sure to open and close the units gently, and take care that no dust or other foreign objects enter the area when opening the guides DO NOT insert worn, torn, folded, wet, or damaged bills into the Bulk Note Feeder, as this action may cause a bill jam inside the unit Shuffle new bills well before inserting them, otherwise they can stick to one another and also cause a bill jam Do not expose the unit to water. The unit contains several precision electronic devices which can be damaged if water or any liquid is sprayed or spilled into the unit Do not install the unit into a dusty environment. Dust may affect the Sensor's performance Do not allow inventory stock to endure high temperature, high humidity, or a dust filled environment If the Bill Validator is dirty due to dust, foreign objects, or other debris adhering to its bill path, bill acceptance rate will be degraded. 26 3

4 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING To ensure proper operation of a BNF-2000 Bill Validator perform the following procedures: Preventive Maintenance: Perform a visual inspection of the unit If the 'O' Rings are cracked, replace them If you can see timing marks through the belts, or if they have frayed edges, replace them If a lens is altered in any way (scratched, clouded, bent, etc.) it must be replaced. NOTE: It is important to keep the bill path, rollers, and belts clean. The sensor lenses are transparent surfaces and are made of a polymer material. Handle them with care. WARNING: Do not use alcohol, thinner or citrus based products for cleaning any surfaces. Cleaning: Be sure to clean the Validator at least once a month To clean the lenses, use a soft lint-free cloth and mild non-abrasive detergent such as liquid dish soap mixed with water Use a soft cloth to wipe dust from the magnetic head, optical sensors, and all rollers and belts Use compressed air to blow loose debris out from any inaccessible areas. Cash Box Preventive Maintenance: Periodic maintenance on the Cash Boxes is also recommended. Use compressed air to blow out the paper fibers and other debris that can build up in them over time Check the belts and all moving parts for wear and proper positioning. If the unit does not operate properly it can cause bills to jam. Quick Troubleshooting Procedures (Continued 4) BNF FACEPLATE LEDS 1ST AND 2ND ROW LEDS BLINK 2 TIMES This situation indicates that a Stacker Jam has occurred. Run Performance Test # 9 (the WBA Stacker Clamp Plate Up/Down Test). If this test fails, run Performance Test # 13 (the Stacker Home Sensor Test). If Tests # 13 passes, perform one or all of the following: Replace Harness # A-02 Replace the Stacker Motor If Tests # 13 fails, perform one or all of the following: Replace Harness # Replace the Stacker/Cash Box Sensor Circuit Board BNF FACEPLATE LEDS 1ST AND 2ND ROW LEDS BLINK 4 TIMES This situation indicates a Stacker Lock condition. Run Performance Test # 13 (WBA Stacker Encoder Sensor Test). Check the LEDs on the CPU Board for: QUICK TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES The ability to do the Performance Tests listed in this guide is based on an assumption that the BNF-2000 being tested can properly enter the 'Test Mode'. In the event of power-up/initialization or other internal errors, the BNF Faceplate LEDs will flash corresponding error codes. Use the following Quick Reference Troubleshooting Procedures to help locate and isolate the unit s fault. Refer to Figure 11a & b to identify the BNF Faceplate LED locations and the initialization lighting sequence. a b Figure 11 BNF Faceplate LED Locations Quick Reference Troubleshooting Procedure BNF-2000 CANNOT ENTER THE 'TEST MODE' Check the CPU Board LEDs for the following states: If LED 1 and LED 2 are both OFF, then replace the CPU Board If LED 1 is OFF, but LED 2 is ON, replace harness (Part No ) or replace the CPU Board. DIP SWITCH TEST DOES NOT PASS Replace the CPU Board. 8 21

9 Performance Test 22 PERFORMANCE TEST NO BILL RETURN OPERATION TEST This test allows the operator to check proper operation of the bill return function. When bills are inserted they will be pulled in, stop at the escrow position, and then be returned. To perform the test: 2. Set DIP Switches 1, 2, 4, and 5 to ON. 4. Insert bills. The test will be considered successful if the bill is accepted and returned smoothly, and without any abnormal sounds being heard. Bill Identification By Reading LED Flash Indications During a Test Bill identification is performed by counting the LED Flashes following a bill validation sequence as follows: 1 flash = $1 2 flashes = $2 (not programmed) 3 flashes = $5 4 flashes = $10 5 flashes = $20 6 flashes = $50 7 flashes = $100 8 flashes = Bar Code Ticket. NOTE: Switch #1 needs to be turned OFF after the Bill Acceptance Test has started to enable Bar Code ticket reading (ID003 Software). Test Notes Performance Tests 4, 5, and 6 PERFORMANCE TEST NO. 4 BNF UNIT MOTOR FORWARD DRIVE TEST This test causes the BNF Unit Motor to rotate forward.
