page : 4/21 1. OBJECT OF THE DOCUMENT This document is a guideline for installing and connecting the single-phase Voltage Regulator (DAT) in detailed stages listed out in the Installation and connection sheet placed in the DAT. This guide details the following points : Installation configurations : Fixed on the ground, Hung on a pillar with an interface at any height. Connection means. The photos of the equipments are in the annex of the document hereby.
page : 5/21 2. GENERAL SECURITY RECOMMENDATIONS 1. The installation and electrical security measures of a DAT are the same as for a transformer or a distribution line. 2. The installation of a DAT must be carried out by personnel who are qualified for low voltage electrical installations and equally qualified to work on electrical distribution networks. 3. There is low voltage inside the equipment. Access is strictly given to authorized and competent personnel. 4. Setting the DAT on a concrete pillar means that work has to be carried out several meters high and that personnel has to handle materials which normally weigh up to 500 kg. 5. The DAT is installed on a support with a lifting appliance near or even underneath a livewire. Therefore it is necessary to keep a reasonnable distance to set the equipment correctly and to work safely. 6. The switch disconnect fuse (Q) is placed after bypass. When it is opened, the following regulation items are electrified : The transformers, Electronics, The regulation static relays and their protective covers. 7. The switch disconnect fuse (Q) can be locked open (DAT in bypass mode) in order to secure the equipment when someone works inside. 8. As soon as the DAT is connected to the network with the switch disconnect (Q) opened (handle downwards), the input / output connection grids, the bypass protection fuses and the reversing switch are in powered mode. The DAT should not be used to isolate the downstream network following an incident on the line 9. The DAT has no bidirectional current capability. If it is installed on a loop network, one has to take extra care when the connection point is changed over. In this case, it is necessary to switch the DAT into bypass mode by opening the switch disconnect Q (handle downwards) before switching the loop s supply. This precaution also applies when an energy source (such as a generator) is connected downwards the appliance to reinject power upstream.
page : 6/21 3. DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT 3.1 Description of the materials Mains storage unit with a key for an 11 mm male triangle lock ; One frame lightning protector (optionnal) with protections installed in the base ; A fixing socket at the back of the appliance ; 2 straps and 4 M14 threaded rods with collars and screw nuts packed in the base ; One CD Rom with GESDAT software to download data from the DAT with the cable that can be connected to a portable ; Full documentation. A stock of spare fuses is available in a document case fixed on the inside door. The spare fuses which protect relays are in the circuit breaker. Inside the electrical casing unit fixed to the door, 2 anti-static foam bars ensure the safe transportation of electronic cards. These bars must be removed before putting the appliance in powered mode. The DAT has 1 CAHORS connecting grids. Two packing boxes for 4 x 35 mm² cables are placed on the bottom plate of the appliance. The DATs are equipped with a base with 2 locking plates at the back and front of the appliance. Each plate has two 11 mm male triangle locks. The locking plate at the back has 3 packing boxes : 2 of which enable the cables to be connected to the mains : their diameter is 38 mm wide ; 1 of which enables the earth cables to be connected to the frame lightning protector if present. These packing boxes are put back to front for the transport. To guaranty the stability of the electrical box during the transport, it will be delivered lied down on the pallet.
page : 7/ Dimensions, weight and power The DAT s power is : 18 kva, The dimensions are identical whatever the power, only the weight is different. Type Power Dimensions 1 (cm) Weight 2 (kg) 18 MS kva 135 x 65 x RECOMMENDED VERIFICATIONS When the DAT is stocked up, pending installation on a new site, we recommend to : Control the tightness of the connections, especially for the connection grids. Check the condition of the fuses : their caliber and their location are detailed in the Commissioning guide. Repaint if need be. Check the use-by-date of the battery. This is written on the label stuck on the electronic box s lid. The user guide for changing this battery is detailed in the Troubleshooting guide. 1 Dimensions : Height x Length x Depth. 2 The weight can vary according to the possible evolutions of the materials.
page : 8/21 5. INSTALLATION 5.1 Handling The equipment must be lifted up from the 4 hoops at the top of the roof in order to avoid any damage to the mains storage unit. The handling of the frame must be achieved with its door shut and locked. 5.2 General rules for installation on the network OPTASIM must be used before the DAT is installed, especially a three-phase DAT. This software uses GDO data to find the right location for a DAT (Automatic input is possible with this software). It computes the new inlet and outlet voltage values and includes the two following essential parameters : Power increase of the users consumption behind the DAT (225 V) ; Additional consumption of the DAT which is directly linked to the clients consumption and the site s voltage drop levels. Both parameters slightly increase the voltage drop upstream of the DAT. If the DAT is installed on part of the looped network, the loop connection point must be changed with extra care because the DAT is not bi-directional. In this case, the DAT must be switched to bypass mode by opening switch disconnect Q (handle downwards) before reversing the loop supply.. The DAT is squeezed in the low voltage network. Therefore, it is necessary to open a local line (creation of 2 anchorages on top of the post) : see diagram Insertion of the DAT on LV network page 9 and photo Anchorage creation page 21 in this document. In some cases, it is possible to avoid cutting the neutral wire and not create anchorages. But this type of installation needs great care because if the neutral wire is cut by mistake during the parting of the network at the top of the pillar, it could cause extreme damage to the clients downstream.
page : 9/21 The press fit performance of the connecting grids are guaranteed for up to 5 connections. Therefore, we suggest to change the grids after 5 connections. In order to avoid these multiple connections on the DAT s connecting grids we recommend you to keep these cables connected to the DAT and to disconnect them from the mains. Figure 1 Insertion of the DAT on LV network Synoptic of a DAT with a frame lightning protector Local power cut (on the pole Existing grid Down to grid Up to grid Inlet grid lightning protector Inlet grid DAT Outlet grid
page : 10/ Installation configurations The equipment has 3 triangle clip locks on the door. It can be installed on the ground or on a concrete pillar at arms reach. However, if security is an issue, it can be installed at a higher level in order to make it unreachable without proper equipment Installation on the ground The cables can be led in the DAT through its base : The cables can led in through the bottom of the DAT through 2 packing boxes. A third packing box enables the lightning protector s earthing cable to be inserted. The base is 30 cm high. Thus the bending radius is wide enough for the cables. The cables can be led in from the ground through a trapdoor (shut by a plate which is locked from inside the base in the other installation configurations). The cables are protected once they are inside the base because it is entirely closed. This base is pierced in each corner so that it can be grounded on the floor Necessary ground surface When the DATs are set on the ground, it is necessary that the ground is flat enough to ensure its stability. For a mono-phase appliance, the necessary dimensions on the ground are : 90cm wide, 70 cm deep. 70 cm 90 cm
page : 11/ Raising of the cables from the ground 150 mm Area available for the insertion of the cables through the base 200 mm 300 mm 100 mm The insertion of cables through the bottom of the base is closed by a plate which is fixed with 2 pins. This plate can be removed only from inside the base (see photo). The dimensions and the layout for the insertion of the cables through the bottom of the base are shown in the left-side photo Ground fixing The base has four 15 mm diameter holes in each corner for securing it to the ground.
page : 12/ Installation on a pillar In this case, the DAT is side-mounted to the concrete pillar. 2 1 The fixing socket has 3 parts : The fixing socket itself (1), 2 straps (2), 4 threaded rods with screw nuts to fasten it on the pillar. In this case the cables enter the base through the packing boxes at the rear on the locking plate (see photo). The base protects the cables under the equipment. 3 Packing Boxes on the locking plate at the back of the base Earthing cable entry Power cables entry
page : 13/ Tasks to be carried out 1. If the DAT is equipped with lightning protector, the connection to the ground must be created for less than 100 Ohms. 2. Setting of the fixing socket and strapping device on the pillar at any height : see photo Installation of DAT on pillar page 21 in this document. The fixing socket must be firmly placed on the strongest part of the pillar. 3. Making sure that the DAT s door is firmly shut. 4. Place the DAT on the support using the 4 metal loops on top of the DAT. Take the following precautions : Position correctly the sliding support callipers to the upper part of the support rails. The lifting hooks on the roof of the apparatus are only used for banking support. Thus, they do not have sufficient capacity to support the DAT. Position the DAT against the support rails at the center with the heightening base. 5. Create the anchorages at the top of the pillar in order to cut the local power: see photo Anchorage creation page Materials needed for the installation Lifting gears (such as baskets, fork-lift trucks, ) to unload the DAT and to put it in place ; a key for an 11 mm triangle key ; a key for a size14 nuts (fixing socket) ; a key for a size 6 screw (connection of the cables on CAHORS connecting grid) ; For the connection to an LV line possibly with an opened local line ; For the earth creation if the equipment has a lightning protector ; A 6mm Allen key for the connection of the earth cable if there is a lightning protector.
page : 14/21 6. CONNECTION 6.1 Prior recommendations to the connection Open the main disconnect switch called Q (handle in downward position). Open the fuse box which protects the feeding of electronic cards : called FTR18. Open the fuse box which protects the remote control switch, manages the reversing switch and signals the changeover to security mode : called FTEL. Open the fuse box which protects bypass : called FBYP. If the equipment has a lightning protector, open the protecting fuse box : called FPARAF. The location of these materials is shown on photos Location of regulation accessories page 19. All these section switches must remain opened as long as the DAT has not been put into service, especially as several installing configurations are possible : 1. BT s power supply post has been made secure according to health and safety measures, 2. The line is in powered mode but the power is off where the DAT is standing, 3. The line is electrified but not cut off as it is bypassed to the isolators. As soon as the DAT is to the mains, the inlet and outlet connecting grid, the bypass reversing switch (KM) and the fuse (FBYP) are in powered mode. The manually operated disconnect switch (Q) only cuts the power on the regulation part which consists of transformers, electronic parts, static regulatory relays and related protections.
page : 15/ Connection The connection of phase and the neutral line is achieved on CAHORS connecting grid with insulating perforations : The tightening torque control on this grid is controlled by screws with break-open heads. If the pins head have already been broken during previous installation, the tightening torque should be 10 N.m. The maximum section for the connection of these grids is 35 mm². The connection screws to the mains are at the bottom of each grid. Both screws above are used for internal wiring of the equipment and they should not be unscrewed.. In the case of a connection to the powered network, it is highly recommended to connect input of the equipment before output DAT without lightning protector Connection to the mains is made on the grid inside the box. output terminals input terminals The equipment has only got one connecting grid (see on picture). The 2 terminals situated on the right side of the grid are the input terminals and the one situated on the left side are the output terminals. The terminal mark is situated up the grids. The neutral is always situated on the left side of the phase.
page : 16/ Equipment with lightning protector The lightning protector is inside the base of the equipment. Connection to downstream network In such a case, the upstream network is connected to the grid inside the base (see photo). The cable between this grid and the input grid of the DAT is provided with the lightning protector. When it is delivered with the DAT, the cable is connected. The mains below is directly connected on the output grid of the DAT inside the box (See above). Connection to the upstream network
page : 17/ Tasks to be carried out 1. Connect the cables which connect the DAT to the mains to the connecting grid : At the bottom of the equipment if it has no lightning protector : see Or in the base for the INLET connecting grid and at the bottom of the equipment for the OUTLET connecting grid if it has lightning protector : see Connect the cables (from the mains to the DAT and from the DAT to the mains) on the phase and neutral line up and down the pillar. Inlet cables must be connected before outlet cables. 3. If the DAT has a litghtning protector, the earth must be connected to the pin or terminal which is on the rail where the lightning protector stands. earth terminal 4. Check that the inlet and outlet of the equipment are connected to the same phase on the network. Check that the tension inlet and outlet are the same. This can be checked either with the connecting grids or the circuit breaker : called FBYP. 5. Shut down the cutout called FBYP and cutout called FPARAF if the equipment has a lightning protector. 6. Proceed to the local opening of the line. Only when the DAT is installed on a moulded cable network with the carrier neutral wire, it is possible to cut the wire and keep the neutral uncut wire to avoid creating 2 cramps (upstream and downstream). The neutral line must be connected upstream the DAT, on the input terminal (entry grid). This type of connection must be made with great care and only if the sectioning of the carrier neutral wire causes technical problems. The DAT is in bypass mode, in parallel on the line, as long as the local power has not been cut. This configuration is harmless to the DAT which is in by-pass mode, and it enables to install it without cutting power on the client s line.
