With Cellasto, the damping system made in microcellular Polyurethane-Elastomer, the full range of polyurethane technologies makes a substantial contribution to improving chassis technology and driving comfort. Driving comfort is considerably improved without any reduction in dynamic driving properties or safety. Cellasto, which consists of microcellular polyurethane elastomers, provides an ideal material that is superbly suited for use in automotive components subject to high dynamic stress. The car manufacturers already use Cellasto components in their vibration damping systems, as jounce bumpers in the suspension, as top mounts, as coil spring isolators, as bushings, and as other chassis parts. Ready-made parts made of Cellasto have special qualities. They are volume-compressible and display only slight transverse elongation when compressed, in contrast to rubber, for example, which extends when under pressure. Cellasto modules can fulfi ll their functions excellently even in small spaces. Polyurethane components dampen vibrations and noises in automobiles. They minimize unpleasant vibrations and background noises in the car while reducing and damping the effects arising from the engine, chassis, and car body known in the automotive sector as NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness).

Cellasto is designed as a multi-component system comprising auxiliary spring, shock absorber bearing, and steel spring disengagement. The different properties and functions of several Cellasto elements have been combined synergetically to form a complete modular solution. Depending on the specifi c requirements of the individual car manufacturer, the Cellasto damping system can be designed to include one or more elements and fulfi ll different component functions. Individual and targeted adjustment by experienced engineers ensures precise integration of the suspension system into the vehicle body.

5 Jounce Bumper Cellasto was used for spring components as early as in the 60s. As a result of its excellent physical properties this micro-cellular polyurethane elastomer is particularly suitable for use as a dynamic, high-performance component in the chassis area. Cellasto features low lateral expansion due to its high volume compressibility, thereby also meeting the requirements of limited construction space. Its resistance to low temperature, heat and moisture gives components an extended life span. Vehicle suspension has progressive spring characteristics, which can be achieved by combining a linear steel coil spring with a progressive Cellasto jounce bumper. The outstanding features of these components, which are made of micro-cellular, special polyurethane elastomers, are: Enormous defl ection potential with negligible lateral expansion Progressive pressure/compression behavior Minor permanent set under static and long-term, dynamic loads Consequently, the Cellasto jounce bumper can be mounted inside the steel coil spring on the shock absorber piston rod, thus saving space. Even during total compression - max. 80% of the original height of the spring without a load - there is no contact with the steel spring.

A stiff and rigid connection reduces the dynamic wheel loads, increasing road safety. Too hard an adjustment, however, causes excessive power peaks, which in turn produce rumbling noises in the shock absorber. Particularly soft adjustment improves micro decoupling between road surface and bodywork but, as a rule, also entails impaired engine shake. The solution to this problem can lie in an appropriately designed top mount made of our micro-cellular PU elastomer. In contrast to conventional rubber solution, it ensures better damping of the inherent wheel frequency and - at the same time - less absorption in the frequency range of human self-resonance. Irritating vibrations are thus reduced and the ride is more comfortable.
