GMD 44 SELECT* Ideal for small farms, the GMD 44 Select, designed for operation with low horse power tractors, has been developed from the same technology used to create the top-of-the-range models. Its working width is of 1.60 m (5 3 ). For transport, this model is equipped with a vertical lift crank or a hydraulically controlled lift depending on the customer s request. 2 GMD 55 SELECT A particular feature of the GMD 55 Select Multidisc Mower, with a working width of 2 m (6 7 ), is that the two inner discs rotate in the same direction. This forms a slightly narrower swath so that the tractor tyres do not run over the cut crop. GMD 66 SELECT This 6 disc multidisc mower has a working width of 2.40 m (7 10 ) for a high output. The forged large-diameter pinion gears and high-capacity bearings used on MULTIDISC MOWERS of this series meet the strictest requirements in terms of endurance and reliability. Some disc mowers may look like KUHN multidisc mowers from the outside but what s inside is the most important. When choosing a disc mower, check on what cannot be seen from the outside. As time goes by, a cheap machine can prove to be the most expensive purchase ever made. A perfect balance: Disc pinion shaft bearings are positioned in respect to the blade line of force : no out of balance forces; long bearing service life. 1 High quality blades, meeting very strict safety standards! Their helical shape ensures a clear cutting. The quality of the blades is certified by the KUHN diamond logo engraved in the metal. 2 Large diameter forged gearwheels and drive pinions for high performance and time proven durability even in adverse conditions. 3 Disc pinion shafts are mounted on robust ball bearings located in cast monobloc housings. 7 4 No risks of wear or distortion: Idler gear fasteners are located in heat treated steel cups welded to the gear pans. 5 A completely sealed cutterbar. Thick diameter O-ring for the cutterbar gearcase and seal rail between both cutterbar pans (no paper gasket or instant sealing compound is used). 6 Discs are secured by a self-locking nut to the splined pinion shaft (no fastening by roll pins to smooth shafts) 1 7 For your safety, the blades of a KUHN multidisc mower are secured with heavy bolts made of heat treated steel, and not by a quick fitting system. Located inside steel cups welded to the discs, knife fixation nuts are perfectly protected from wear.

5 A. Compact mower unit 4 With its low profile design, the cutterbar cuts an even crop whatever the density. A C B. Oval discs with ribbed profile Oval discs have several advantages: higher efficiency in the removal of cut grass, maximum knive overlap for a clean and even mowing action, almost no risk of a foreign material getting jammed between two discs. B D C. Deflector shields Deflector shields are fitted between the disc guards. A knife deformed towards the bottom will not cut into the cutterbar gearcase. 5 D. Protective disc guards and outer skids Disc guards made of heat-treated steel protect the discs. The cutterbar is kept away from the ground s abrasive elements by the skid shoes of the disc guards

6 Multidisc Mowers GMD series and 77HD SELECT Common features and benefits 5 Suspension spring The suspension spring allows accurate adaptation of cutterbar flotation to ground conditions. The flotation spring tension is determined by adjusting the main frame height using the tractor s 3 point lift. Follow contours The articulated cutting unit follows ground contours with maximum accuracy, even when mowing banks or ditches. Safety breakaway mechanism Should an obstacle be struck, the safety breakaway causes the mower unit to swing slightly backwards. The impact is significantly reduced. The device is reset simply by reversing. Belt drive Cutterbar lift Compact transport dimensions A set of V-belts transmits power to the bevel gearbox. The bearing housing of the main pulley includes an easily accessible belt tensioner (for better illustration the belt guard has been removed). All KUHN disc mowers feature a hydraulic cutterbar lift cylinder. The GMD 44 SELECT can also be supplied with a crank for mechanical lifting! For road transport, the front safety cover is folded up and the cutterbar is raised to the vertical position. This minimises transport width and transfers the machine s centre of gravity close to the tractor. The machine forms a compact unit with the tractor without restricting visibility to the rear. A locking rod secures the cutterbar in vertical position.

7 Optional equipment Disc guards with high skids shoes 6 For increased cutting heights, special disc guards with high skid shoes are available for all the GMD SELECT multidisc mowers. Extended swathboards In certain circumstances where swath widths need to be reduced, such as when a narrow pickup follows the mower, extended swathboards are available. Additional cones (GMD 55 Select and GMD 77HD Select) The GMD 55 Select swath width can be reduced by approx. 300 mm (1 ) in high density crops by replacing the second disc by a cone. PTO shaft with overrunning clutch Use of a PTO shaft with overrunning clutch is recommended if the Mower is attached to a tractor with an automatic PTO brake. Standard on GMD 77HD Select. Lighting and signalling For increased safety when travelling, consider fitting a lighting and signalling equipment on the mower.
