4 Metasys Zoning Package Installation Technical Bulletin Metasys Zoning Package Components Building Automation System Building Automation System (BAS) is a generic term that refers to the Metasys Network Control Module (NCM), N30 Series supervisory systems, and associated operator workstations. The specific system names are used when referring to system-specific applications. The Metasys Zoning Package controls any standard, constant volume packaged Rooftop Unit (RTU) using select Johnson Controls BAS, digital controllers, and sensors. Unitary (UNT) Controller The UNT controls the rooftop unit to regulate the temperature of the supply air according to the zone with the highest demand. The AS-UNT121-1 and the AS-UNT UNT controllers can be used in the Metasys Zoning Package. These are low ambient temperature rated controllers that must be installed in a weatherproof enclosure, unless they are mounted within the enclosed, low voltage electrical compartment of the rooftop unit. Refer to the Unitary Controller (UNT) Technical Bulletin (LIT ) for information on the AS-UNT121-1 and refer to the Unitary (UNT) Controller 1100 Series User s Guide (LIT ) for more information on the AS-UNT Zone Damper Assembly One zone damper assembly is required for each zone. The Variable Air Volume (VAV) Modular Assembly (VMA) 1440 controller on the zone damper monitors zone temperature to determine a demand for heating or cooling and reports this demand to the rooftop UNT controller via the BAS. The VMA1440 also monitors supply air temperature in the discharge air of the RTU. As the temperature of the supply air changes, the VMA1440 modulates the zone damper to regulate its flow into the zone and satisfy its heating or cooling needs. The zone damper assembly can be ordered as a round or rectangular damper: RZGddEDx (metal controller cover is optional) ZOVSE-wwwxhhhx (metal controller cover is optional)

Metasys Zoning Package Installation Technical Bulletin 5 Bypass Damper Assembly An actuator controls the bypass damper. The actuator of the bypass damper is controlled by the VMA1440 controller on a zone damper assembly. The bypass damper regulates air volume and static pressure through the MZP system. As building load is satisfied, and the zone dampers in the system begin to modulate closed, static pressure increases in the ductwork. If system static pressure becomes excessive, the static pressure transducer sends a signal to the VMA1440 controlling the M9106 actuator on the bypass damper. In response, the VMA1440 sends a signal to the actuator to partially open the bypass damper, allowing excess air to flow from the supply side to the return side of the rooftop unit. This eliminates excessive system static pressure, prevents the generation of noise at the diffusers, and prevents the erratic loss of temperature control in the zones. The VMA1440 controller also supports Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) applications. When using a VFD for static pressure control, you must change the Direct Acting attribute of the static setpoints group to False. This can be done in the Parameters List Box of the HVAC PRO software. The Params button on the HVAC PRO main screen displays the Parameters List Box. Refer to the Viewing and Modifying Configuration Parameters (LIT ) chapter of the HVAC PRO User s Guide for more information. The bypass damper assembly requires the following components: RCGddEDx or BOVAE-wwwxhhhx (metal actuator cover is optional) AS-DPTKIT-1 static pressure transducer kit for use with the VMA1440 controller (DPT-2015 static pressure sensor mounted in separate metal enclosure with Dwyer A-303 static pressure tip) Slave Damper Applications The slave applications must be installed with one of the following: RCGddEDx BOVAE-wwwxhhhx

6 Metasys Zoning Package Installation Technical Bulletin VMA1420 Controller The VMA1420 controller can also be used with the MZP application, but the internal Differential Pressure Transducer (DPT) sensor is only used for monitoring purposes. The VMA1420 is not available as a factory-mounted option and must be field installed. When using the VMA1420 DPT sensor, you must configure the Setup attribute of the AI-5 input to DeltaP Water Column (W.C.), using HVAC PRO software. Refer to the Viewing and Modifying Configuration Parameters (LIT ) chapter of the HVAC PRO User s Guide for more information. Zone Temperature Sensor The recommended zone temperature sensor is the TE-67Nx-1BOO or the AP-TMZ Only one sensor is supported by each zone damper assembly. Split-Bobbin Transformer The recommended split-bobbin transformers are the Johnson Controls Y63, Y64, or Y65 Series transformers. Table 1 lists the power requirements for the zone and bypass damper assemblies and slave applications. Table 1: Zone and Bypass Damper Assembly and Slave Application Power Requirements (VA) Bypass Damper/Slave Application Zone Damper Controller N/A 10.0 VA Actuator 5.0 VA N/A Total 5.0 VA 10.0 VA Accessories Required Accessories The following accessories are required and must be ordered separately: static pressure transducer kit for use with the VMA1440 controller (AS-DPTKIT-1). This kit is needed for bypass applications and provides input to the VMA1440 zone damper to activate bypass control. room sensor (TE-6700 or TMZ1600)

Metasys Zoning Package Installation Technical Bulletin 7 Optional Accessories The following optional MZP accessories also are available: M3 Workstation Zone Terminal (UNT controller only) carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) sensor humidity sensor (required for the Economizer function) Zone Control Operation The transfer function for the temperature loop for the zone box application is represented in Figure 2. This control loop resembles a pressure-dependent terminal unit controller. Separate Proportional plus Integral (PI) controllers are used in cooling and heating to keep the zone temperature near setpoint by modulating the zone damper. The Heating mode is true if the supply air temperature is greater than the zone temperature plus the supply offset. The Zone Demand signal produced by each zone VMA1440 controller is a number from -100 to 100 representing the negated heating PI output combined with the cooling PI output. A zone demand between -100 and 0 is a call for heating, with a zone demand of -100 being the maximum demand for heating. A zone demand between 0 and 100 is a call for cooling, with 100 being the maximum demand for cooling. Figure 2 shows the transfer function for the temperature loop of the zone damper. Cooling Setpoint + Cooling PI Error Controller - Direct Action Zone Demand Heating Mode = Off = Zone Demand Damper Setpoint Damper and Process Heating Setpoint + - Error Heating PI Controller Reverse Action Heating Mode = On = Zone Demand Measured Zone Temperature trans Figure 2: Zone Damper Temperature Loop Transfer Function Rooftop Operation The rooftop has three modes of operation: Heating, Satisfied, and Cooling. The deviation of the Heating Command from zero is used to place one or more heating devices in the Heating mode. Cooling mode operates in the same way. All controlled devices are turned off in the Satisfied mode.

8 Metasys Zoning Package Installation Technical Bulletin The polling scheme in the rooftop controller identifies the worst case heating and cooling loads. Any zone that remains at 100% Heating or Cooling Command for the duration of the Zone Unresponse Time is not included in the polling for the worst case zones until that zone s command decreases below 100%. Transitions between these states are shown in Figure 3: Heating Demand > Htg Start Limit AND Cooling Mode = False Cooling Demand > Clg Start Limit AND Heating Mode = False Heating Satisfied Cooling Vvtfsm Heating Demand < Htg Start Limit - Differential Cooling Demand < Clg Start Limit - Differential Figure 3: Finite State Drawing for the Rooftop In Figure 3: Heating mode = (Outdoor Air Temperature < Outdoor Air Temperature setpoint - differential) AND (Heating Demand > Heating Start Limit) and Cooling mode = (Outdoor Air Temperature > Outdoor Air Temperature setpoint) AND (Cooling Demand > Cooling Start Limit). Note: The Heating Mode parameter in the rooftop application is not the same as the Heating Mode parameter in the zone control application. The rooftop controller begins in the Satisfied state. The system is set to either heating priority or cooling priority. This priority mode is evaluated first. The controller switches from Satisfied to Cooling if cooling is the priority mode and Cooling Command exceeds the Clg Stg 1 Start parameter. The UNT controller only switches into non-priority mode if all zones in the priority mode have been satisfied (The Cooling Command is less than Clg Stg 1 Start, if cooling is the priority mode.). For example, if heating or cooling priority is being automatically determined based on outdoor air temperature and the outdoor air is cold, the rooftop unit operates in heating priority. Cooling Mode equals Off because it is the non-priority mode. Nonetheless, cooling stages can still be energized as long as the Heating Command does not exceed Htg Stg 1 Start (or Mod Htg Start).

Metasys Zoning Package Installation Technical Bulletin 9 Supply Fan Operation The supply fan has two modes of operation: continuous and intermittent. In continuous supply fan operation, the supply fan operates continuously during the Occupied mode and cycles the fan on a call for heating or cooling during the Unoccupied mode. In intermittent supply fan operation, the supply fan operates only during a call for heating or cooling, in Occupied or Unoccupied mode. The supply fan status sensor (a current-sensing or proof-of-airflow switch) indicates whether the supply fan is operating. This status is compared to the controller supply fan command to verify that the command has taken effect. The filter switch shuts off the supply fan when the filter is dirty. If the differential pressure across the filter exceeds a specified limit indicating the filter is dirty, the filter switch closes and shuts off the fan.
