1 MSS SPRING KITS INSTALL GUIDE for the Audi TT MK2 (8J) platform TO BE USED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. FOR FULL INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS, REFER TO THE AUDI WORKSHOP REPAIR GUIDE. IMPORTANT NOTICES AND NOTES: This install guide is to be used for reference only and at all times the reader must refer to the Audi Workshop Repair Guide for detailed part(s) removal or installation instructions. 1) We strongly recommend that you have your MSS Spring kit installed by a qualified professional workshop. 2) The car used in this install guide is a standard MagneRide equipped US-spec Audi TT MK2 (8J) TT-RS Coupe 6-spd manual. 3) Replace all nuts or bolts that are designed to lock; are visibly worn; are rusted or damaged. 4) Kit used for this guide is the MSS Sports kit, However, the guide applies to all the MSS Spring kits. 5) Always use factory recommended bolts or nuts for any part of this installation. 2 Step 1: Measure the stock vehicle height Audi TT MK2 (8J) MSS Spring Kit Install TIP: Park the car on a level floor; point wheels forward; measure and record the vertical distance from edge of center wheel cap to the bottom of the fender arch; measure diameter of center wheel cap; divide by two; add to previous measurement for a total ride height measurements. 3 Step 2: Lift the car up on jack stands and remove the wheels Lift the car and rest it on jack stands at appropriate jack points as indicted in the manual. Remove the wheels.

4 Step 3 (Rear): Detach level sensor bracket Remove the Torx screws holding the rear suspension level sensor bracket in place, and move arm and bracket out of the way.

5 Step 4 (Rear): Lower rear spring arm Support the rear spring arm with a floor jack. Remove the 18mm nut and bolt shown, and slowly release the floor jack to lower the spring arm. Remove the stock spring assembly. Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) Rear spring arm bolt and nut 90 N*m + 90 (66 ft*lb + 90 )

6 Step 5 (Rear): Assemble MSS rear spring assembly MSS rubber washer Assemble the MSS rear spring stack in the following top-tobottom order: - rubber washer - adjustable perch - black spring - spring coupler - orange spring - stock lower rubber spring carrier stock lower rubber spring carrier

7 Step 6 (Rear): Swap in MSS rear spring assembly Adjust the MSS perch to the center of the adjustment range, and assemble the stack into the stock spring location. Ensure the nub in the stock lower rubber spring carrier fits into the slot in the spring arm. Installation is the reverse of removal. Ensure all mating surfaces are clean and seat flush against oneanother. Torque all bolts to the factory specifications (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide). Replace any lock nuts. Replace any nuts or bolts that are visibly worn, rusted, or damaged.

8 Step 7 (Front): Loosen the driveshaft screw Have a helper get in the car and press on the brake pedal. Using a 24mm 12-point socket and breaker bar, loosen and remove the driveshaft screw in the center of the front wheel hub. Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) 12-point bolt or if 6-point bolt 70 N*m + 90 (52 ft*lb + 90 ) 200 N*m (148 ft*lb )

9 Step 8 (Front): Unhook the brake cables brake clip cable holder brake clip Disconnect the wear sensor and ABS sensor (driver side only). Unhook wiring from cable holder and move out of the way. Unhook clips holding brake lines in place. wear sensor ABS sensor (driver side)

10 Step 9 (Front): Remove the brake calipers cable holder caliper screw Remove the brake caliper screws. MagneticRide connector Carefully slide the brake caliper off of the brake disc, slide the brake cable out of the cable holders, and set the brake caliper aside on a raised support to keep tension off of the brake line. Disconnect the MagneticRide wiring using two hands (one to actuate the release clip, and the other to carefully remove the connector). These are fragile, so do not use a tool for this. Unhook the wiring from the cable holders and move to the side. Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) caliper screw caliper screw 200 N*m (148 ft*lb)

11 Step 10 (Front): Remove the brake disc and end link connection end link Remove the Torx holding screw from the brake disc, and remove the brake disc from the hub. Disconnect the end link from the strut tube using an 18mm wrench and a triple-square to keep the stud from rotating. holding screw Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) end link nut 65 N*m (48 ft*lb)

12 Step 11 (Front): Remove the brake airflow scoop Remove the 13mm bolt and nut from the plastic brake airflow scoop and remove the scoop from the A-arm.

13 Step 12 (Front): Disconnect the tie rod end While holding the center of the tie rod end stud with a hex key, loosen the 21mm nut holding the tie rod in place until it extends just beyond the end of the stud. Carefully press the tie rod end to loosen it from the A-arm using a tie rod removal tool clamped around the nut and metal A-arm. Remove the nut and tie rod end out of the A-arm. Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) tie rod nut 20 N*m + 90 (15 ft*lb + 90 )

14 Step 13 (Front): Disconnect front A-arm level sensor bracket Remove the 10mm nut holding the A-arm level sensor bracket in place, and move the bracket out the way.

15 Step 14 (Front): Lift the rain tray Remove the two Torx screws holding down the rain tray on the driver side, and pull back the seal holding the rain tray to the engine bay metal. seal

16 Step 15 (Front): Support the A-arm, and remove the strut screws Support the A-arm with a floor jack to prevent it from lowering. Carefully lifting the rain tray out of the way by hand, remove the three 13mm screws holding the strut assembly to the fender. Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) strut screws 15 N*m + 90 (11 ft*lb + 90 )

17 Step 16 (Front): Disconnect the hub ball join plate and remove strut assembly Mark the nut locations on the hub ball joint plate with a felt tip pen, and loosen the 16mm nuts holding the hub ball joint plate for the A-arm. Carefully remove the nuts while supporting the strut and hub assembly, and remove the strut and hub assembly from the car. If the driveshaft is suck to the wheel hub, thread back in the driveshaft screw and tap it with a rubber mallet to break it free. Make sure that the driveshaft is carefully supported by the A-arm without pressure on the CV joints. The A-arm should still be supported by the floor jack. Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) ball joint plate nuts 40 N*m + 45 (30 ft*lb + 45 )

18 Step 17 (Front): Check that A-arm and driveshaft are property supported support driveshaft / CV joints Make sure that the driveshaft is carefully supported by the A-arm without any pressure on the CV joints. The A-arm should still be supported by the floor jack.

19 Step 18 (Front): Disassemble strut and swap in MSS spring strut nut strut cap assembly strut bearing Using a special 21mm thru-hole socket with a hex key holding the shock shaft, loosen and remove the nut at the top of the strut assembly holding the strut bearings against the spring. Confirm that there is no compression in the spring prior to fully removing the nut. dust sleeve Swap in the new MSS spring and make sure it is property seated against the lower spring seat. Re-attach the strut cap assembly and start threading the nut by hand. spring seat Ensure the directional arrows on the strut cap assembly point along the direction of travel. Carefully push the dust sleeves back into the strut cap assembly so that it is fully sealed at both ends of the spring. Re-installation Torque (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide) strut nut 60 N*m (44 ft*lb)

20 Step 19 (Front): Installation is the reverse of removal Installation is the reverse of removal. Ensure all mating surfaces are clean and seat flush against oneanother. IMPORTANT NOTICES 1) TORQUE ALL BOLTS TO THE FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS (refer to Audi Workshop Repair Guide). 2) REPLACE ANY LOCK NUTS. 3) REPLACE ANY NUTS OR BOLTS THAT ARE VISIBLY WORN, RUSTED, OR DAMAGED.
