WHY RENAULT? For the past 100 years, Renault has been one of the motor industry s most notable innovators. But we have never been motivated by a purely abstract notion of progress. Our objective has always been a purely practical one: to serve the needs of the people who use our vehicles. We know that it is not for people to adapt to our cars, but for our cars to adapt to people. This is why we believe, for instance, that a response to the environmental challenges of the 21st century should involve a lot more than taking measures to reduce CO2 emissions. Every motor vehicle has an impact upon the environment, not only during its service life, but before and after it as well. This is why Renault eco2 vehicles are produced in environmentally responsible, ISO certified factories, it s why our eco2 cars emit less than 140g of CO2 g/km and why they are not only 85% recyclable but actually use alreadyrecycled plastic materials in their production. Reassuringly, the occupants of today s Renault cars are protected more completely and more effectively than ever before. The effectiveness of our innovative new safety systems is underwritten by rigorous analysis and testing. And equally importantly, having established that the systems truly do work, we fit them - as standard - to every vehicle we make. As a result, Renault is the only marque in the world able to offer 12 vehicles with the maximum rating of 5 stars in the independent Euro NCAP safety crash tests. In our view, progress is not progress unless it is shared by all. This is why every Renault offers a unique combination of build quality, comfort, road holding, ergonomics, safety and environmental protection - all under the banner of the Renault standard. And if that title sounds a little ambitious, its intention couldn t be clearer - it is, quite simply, to make your life better. DRIVE THE CHANGE. The philosophy that encapsulates Renault brand values and expresses the ambition of Renault; an innovative, human company, to pioneer sustainable mobility for all. France's number-one car brand, Renault builds on more than 110 years of innovation to bring customers breakthrough top-quality products and services that are ingenious, appealing, affordable and carbon-efficient. Renault s brand expresses the deep-rooted values of our business culture - enthusiastic, innovative, human and forges a new path in automotive design and use. INTUITION ALWAYS TRUST YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS - ESPECIALLY IF THEY RE RIGHT SLEEK, CLASSY, DISTINCTIVE. Words that instinctively come to mind when you first see the new Laguna Coupé. 9 SYSTEMS DYNAMIC SENSATION WITH MAXIMUM SAFETY. It s true: a conventionally designed chassis with front-wheel steering can give excellent road holding. But for engineers at Renault, excellent just isn t good enough. They wanted to go even further when it came to control, stability and safety. The outcome of their groundbreaking research is called 4Control - and it delivers a new level of exceptional driving pleasure and efficiency. It is the wheel reinvented. With its 4-wheel steering, the 4Control chassis gives you a unique sense of precision, responsiveness and handling. The 4Control system acts on the steering angle of the rear wheels relative to your speed. Below 60 kph (1) the rear wheels point in the opposite direction to those at the front. So, the turning circle is reduced, meaning easier manoeuvring, and improved handling on winding roads. Above 60 kph (2) the rear wheels point in the same direction as the front wheels. When cornering, this means the rear tyres are perfectly aligned for the direction in which you re turning, and steering wheel movement is decreased. This makes the new Laguna Coupé highly stable when driving round bends. For maximum safety, the 4Control computer is also linked to the ESP and ABS electronic systems. Because it can recognise emergency situations immediately, it adjusts the steering angle for the rear wheels instantaneously, so you can safely make quick avoidance manoeuvres. (1) (2) ESP The Electronic Stability Programme with CSV under steer control automatically corrects the Vehicle s trajectory when detecting a skid, under conditions such as under steering, Over steering, emergency avoidance, or even a wheel on a verge. When the actual vehicle Trajectory is found to diverge from the set vehicle trajectory, the controller adjusts the Engine torque and applies selective braking on one or more wheels to restore the set Trajectory. 8

EBA Emergency Brake Assist reduces stopping distances by automatically applying the cars Full braking power in an emergency situation. When the controller detects an emergency Situation (rapid action on brake pedal), it applies maximum available brake power and holds it until the pedal is fully released. The system also switches to ABS regulation. The result is Vehicle braking as it would have been applied by an expert driver. ABS with EBD ABS keeps the wheels from fully locking up during emergency braking to allow the driver To maintain steering control. EBD (Electronic brake distribution) is a complementary system embedded in ABS. It continually manages break-force distribution between the front and rear wheels. Sensors on each wheel constantly monitor rotation speed. As soon as one of the wheels starts to lock up, a central controller trigger a hydraulic compensation system. EBD uses the hydraulic system and ABS sensors to adjust braking between axles. Navigating systems The Two navigation systems the Cumana blue tooth cd auditorium and the Cumana DVD grand auditorium systems are taken from the new Laguna. 9

BODY Frame The After-Sales cutting section of the body side is different from the factory cutting section. The body side is made up of two parts: the front section and the rear section. During manufacturing, the body side pressing process is not standard and unlike other vehicle manufacturing. The body side is assembled with the reinforcements. The rear wing panel and the sill panel are pressed seprately. The three parts are then assembled by electric resistance welding. In After-Sales, the rear wing panel and sill panel connection is made by gas metal arc welding. The recommendations concerning this special weld joint are described in the Bodywork Structure Repair Manual (MR400). The gas metal arc spot welds in this zone do not need to be levelled. 12

BODY The outer surface The roof of the Laguna is jointed to the body sides by transparent lazar welding. For technical reasons to facilitate assembly the joint between the bottom of the rear wing and the sill panel forms a reduced gourd, this zone is finished by applying a mastic seal. The bonnet and the entire bonnet lining of the Laguna Coupe are made of aluminium. The front wings and the frameless doors of the Laguna are made of steel. 15

BODY The luggage compartment lid of the Laguna coupe is made of SMC Plastic (Sheet-moulded composite) The hinges of the luggage compartment lid are the swan neck type. They are located in the damp zone in order to facilitate access to the luggage compartment. An in-depth, systematic study has been carried out right from the earliest stages of development (choice of technology and materials, e.g. an engine cradle and add on made of aluminium), resulting in architecturally innovative solutions (insulation, structure). For example, the utilisation of steel with an extremely high yield limit (TTTHLE) for the structure of the bodywork reconciles weight distribution, an increased stiffness of the body and an improved level of protection in the event of an impact. 16

ELECTRONICS V6 Vehicle Battery The V6 vehicle s battery is located in the emergency spare wheel compartment. Pyrotechnic disconnecting switch The positive connection is equipped with the Pyrotechnic disconnecting switch. The switch cuts the electrical supply in the event of a rear impact and must be replaced. Two large cross-sectional cables carry the electrical supply between the battery, the starter and the battery disconnection unit located in the engine compartment. Starter located in the engine compartment Connecting cable located in the emergency spare wheel compartment Battery disconnection unit located in the engine compartment 17

ELECTRONICS A fuse box called the battery return unit; is located near the battery. This unit provides primary protection of the electrical circuit thanks to its 3 high capacity fuses. The Electrical cable crosses the rear floor via a waterproof connection under the left side of the vehicle. It then runs to the front in a protective channel. The main battery earth terminal is located on the bulk head above the brake fluid reservoir. 18

ELECTRONICS Fuse Box Locations The vehicle has several fuse boxes: - Passenger compartment fuse and relay box. - Max fuse box. - Protection and Switching Unit fuses. - Battery protection fuses. 21 TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Removal of the front Seat cover To remove the cover, place your hand in the middle of the cover to unclip the two top clips. (Note: The shape of the top clip is different between the Laguna hatch and estate.) Then, lift the cover to detach the lower fixings. Rear Seat Access sensor The seat base is moved forward electrically with double speed compared to comfort adjustment. Principle: Seat back tilted forwards: The seat runners move forwards as soon as the seatback enters zone 3. Seat back tilted back wards: The seatback enters zone 2 and the runners stop. If the seatback is tilted back to zone 3, the runners move forward again. If the seatback is tilted back to zone 1, the runners move back to the initial adjustment position. Redemption 20

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Head Lining During manufacture, the headlining is fitted before the windscreen. The headlining is removed after fully reclining the seatbacks and removing the door. Removing an airbag badge leads to its destruction. It is impossible to release the clips. The clips must be replaced after the repairs. 21

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Door Window Mechanism The window mechanism adjusts the electric window glass. The door module incorporates "the short-drop function". The door seal provides the upper sealing of the sliding window glass. The module of the external and internal door handle signals the order (via the integrated sensor) to the door module to lower the window a few centimetres in order to be able to open the door. If the door is not opened in 20 seconds the window will close automatically- if the window does not close automatically; you can manually close the window by 6 successive activations of the window control switch inside the vehicle. 12mm Adjusting the sliding window The electric window glass is adjusted by following a specific order: X, Z, and then Y. X Z X Z Y Y 22

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Window mechanism adjustment The electric window glass is secured to the window mechanism by clamping the front section. The rear section is secured by a bolt which passes through the glass and a spacer provides the interface. Observing the correct tightening 8 NM for the front and rear mountings this will prevent the window from breaking. When the operating slides are in the bottom position, it is possible to make "fine" adjustment of the electric window glass at Z. It is also possible to adjust the electric window glass and window mechanism assembly; this adjustment can be made without having to remove the door trim. Adjusting the Front Side Door Electric window glass Perform all movement of the front side door electric window glass with the vehicle engine running. Close the front side door each time an adjustment is made to check the result. Start by adjusting the window X axis Open the front side door. Position the front side door electric window glass in the upper position. Remove the front side door trim. Remove the blanking covers (1). 23

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Manually lock the front side door lock (check that the window raises). Loosen the bolts of the front side door sliding window (2). Place three pieces of masking tape on the front side door sliding window and draw two lines at the dimensions shown: - (X1) = 6 mm, - (X2) = 10 mm. Position a suction cup on the front side door sliding window. Unlock the front side door lock using the exterior door handle (check that the window lowers). Close the front side door with an operator inside the vehicle and another outside the vehicle. Place the front side door sliding window at the dimensions shown: (X3) = 5 to 6 mm - if the X axis play is too tight: push the front side door sliding window forwards. - if the X axis play is not tight enough: push the front side door sliding window backwards. Check the alignment of the front side door sliding window in relation to the rear quarter panel window. 24

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Next simultaneously adjust the Z axis of the window Place the front side door sliding window at the dimensions shown, once adjusted it must be located in the adjustment range between 6 and 10 mm in relation to the body side trim seal. Make an adjustment to the bolts (4) using a no. 5 BTR wrench, after having completely lowered the front side door sliding window. Check that none of these actions causes the front side door sliding window to become misaligned in relation to the rear quarter panel window: - Window too high towards the front: Turn the bolt (5) anticlockwise (1 turn = 1 mm). - Window too low towards the front: Turn the bolt (5) clockwise (1 turn = 1 mm). - Window too high towards the back: Turn the bolt (6) anticlockwise (1 turn = 1 mm). - Window too low towards the back: Turn the bolt (6) clockwise (1 turn = 1 mm). Adjust the Y axis of the window Undo the nuts; fit a shim (7) between the front side door and the rear wing panel. Rest the front side door on the shim. 25

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Measure the dimension (X4) and (X5) of the front side door sliding window. The difference between (X4) and (X5) must be 5 mm more at (X5). Example: - If (X5) = 20 mm then (X4) = 15 mm. Adjust the Y play by moving the rear lower section of the front electric window mechanism. Tighten the lower nut of the rear rail of the front side door electric window mechanism (be careful not to move the rear rail of the front side door electric window mechanism when tightening the nut). Remove the shim. Close the front side door. Open the front side door and lower the front side door sliding window completely (this action allows the front rail of the front side door electric window mechanism to be positioned correctly). Tighten the lower nut of the front rail of the front side door electric window mechanism (be careful not to move the front rail of the front side door electric window mechanism when tightening the nut). Check that the front side door sliding window is working by raising and lowering the window completely in one-touch mode. Raise the front side door sliding window fully. Close the front side door again. Check that the front side door sliding window is in the right position. Refit the blanking covers (3). Remove the masking tape from the front side door sliding window. It is possible to carry out a finishing adjustment on the Y axis without having to remove the front side door trim. Check the flush-fitting of the front side door sliding window in relation to the rear quarter panel window: - if the front side door sliding window comes out too far in relation to the rear quarter panel window: loosen the nuts and push the rear rail of the front side door electric window mechanism towards the vehicle exterior. - if the front side door electric window glass does not come out enough in relation to the rear quarter panel window: 26

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Loosen the nuts and push the rear rail of the front side door electric window mechanism towards the inside of the vehicle. Refit the front side door trim, carry out a sealing test. Front side door lock Disconnect the battery Removal: - The front side door trim - The front side door sealing film Protect the side impact sensor to prevent any accidental damage (card and adhesive). Remove: - The front side door lock barrel or the dummy lock, - The front side exterior door handle - Drill out the rivet To avoid any risk of corrosion after the localised stripping of the panel, reapply the protective Coating. Unclip the front side door exterior handle module (2) Remove the front side door exterior handle module (3) from the front side door panel. Remove the bolts (4). 27

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Gently lift the front side door lock to remove it from the retaining hook (5). Remove the «lock - exterior handle module» assembly from the front side door box section. Disconnect the connectors (depending on equipment level). Unclip the front side door lock cable from the front side exterior door handle module. Always replace the front side door module rivet and refit Clip the front side door lock cable onto the front side door exterior handle module. Fit the «lock - exterior handle module» assembly into the front side door box section. Connect the connectors (depending on equipment level). Position the front side door lock on the front side door box section retaining hook (6). Refit the bolts (4) in order (7), (8) and (9) Remove of the Front side door lock barrel Unclip the blanking cover or carefully remove the seal giving access to unlock the front side door lock barrel. Loosen the locking bolt completely without removing it. Remove the front side door lock barrel. 28

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Refit: Position the front side door lock barrel. Torque tighten the lock barrel bolt (2 N.M) whilst holding the front side door lock barrel at (1). Clip in the blanking piece (replace it if necessary).carry out a function test on the front side door lock barrel. Torques tightening lock barrel bolt 2 NM. Sealing the door mirror zone The door mirror zone is a critical area in terms of air tightness. During an After-Sales repair, particular attention must be taken in order to correctly repair this zone. To do this, there is a special kit which will be issued with instructions detailing the positioning of each piece of foam or patch. The part number to block the rear view mirror zone D91 is: R (768C52093R + 768C59373R + 768C50003R + 768C52358R + fitting instructions being created) The aluminium patch (50x30) Will be sold in units (already exists in Spare Parts) The aluminium patch (25x25) will not be on sale. The network will cut the patch Check to ensure that the aluminium patch is properly fitted over the door edge. Area 1 29

TRIM & UPHOLSTERY Area 2 Position the foam at the join with the rear-view mirror channel. Pay particular attention to position the return edge of the foam up against Z on the door box section. Area 3 Fit the foam in position, taking care to correctly position the tip facing upwards. 30

AIRBAG AND PRETENSIONERS Door Sealing When replacing the door seal you must scrupulously observe the repair procedures, the effectiveness of the seal depends on this. Safety Instructions You will always be asked for the safety instruction sheet: - When requesting technical assistance from the Techline, - To be enclosed when returning monitored parts on request. The log is needed for warranty reimbursement and enables better analysis of the parts which have been removed. All operations on the airbag system must be carried out by qualified trained personnel. Safety rules must be observed whenever work is carried out on a component to prevent physical damage or human injury: - Make sure that the battery is properly charged to avoid damaging computers with a low charge, use the appropriate tools, when working on the airbag system, it is essential to use the computer locking command to avoid accidental triggering (all the trigger lines will be inhibited). 1. Driver's front airbag The role of the driver's front airbag is to protect the driver's head in the event of frontal impact. 31

AIRBAG AND PRETENSIONERS 2. Passenger front airbag The role of the passenger front airbag is to protect the front passenger's head in the event of frontal impact. 3. Airbag computer The role of the airbag computer is to take control of all the vehicle's restraint devices intended to ensure the protection of the occupants (driver and front passenger). 4. Front Side Airbag The role of the passenger side airbag is to protect the front passenger's chest and head in case of side impact. 32

AIRBAG AND PRETENSIONERS 5. Airbag deactivation key The passenger airbag deactivation key informs the airbag computer of a request to deactivate the passenger front airbag. The airbag computer controls all of the vehicle's restraint devices intended to ensure the protection of the occupants (driver and front passenger). The airbag computer is designed to perform the following functions: Detection and confirmation of front longitudinal impacts; Corresponding activation of the pyrotechnic restraint devices (e.g.: pretensioner, airbag); Management and monitoring of the Airbag fault and Airbag off warning lights on the instrument panel (Wire connections); Management of the warning lights for the Seat belt reminder, Activation of the crash output signal in the event of a crash (wire connection); Management of the fault finding signals (signals provided by the fault manager in response to fault finding requests, whether this consists of internal faults or input / output fault finding). Special notes: 1. Front impacts: The detection of front impacts takes into account the signals from the computer's internal accelerometers. A frontal algorithm produces a characterisation of the impact using the sensor signals in order to initiate an adapted protection. It generates a crash output signal according to the type of impact in order to inform the other computers that a crash has been detected. The programming applied by the various computers likely to use this information is not described in this functional description. Additional information, for example the position of the inhibition key, consequently modify the behaviour of the system in order to better respond to the protection requirements resulting from the situation identified and characterised. 2. Inhibition of passenger triggers lines: This function is managed by the airbag computer according to the position of the passenger airbag inhibition switch. The change in status of the inhibition switch is recognised for 10 seconds after the vehicle ignition is switched on (computer supply). Inhibition programming: Trigger lines inhibited and Airbag Off warning light lit if the switch is OFF (100 Ω); Trigger lines authorised if the switch is ON (400 Ω); Trigger lines inhibited, Airbag Fault and Airbag Off warning lights lit if a fault is detected, if the switch is not configured and detected as present, or if there is a change of position outside of the conditions. By default, when the key is in the inhibition position, the following protections and signals are inhibited in the event of a crash: 33

AIRBAG AND PRETENSIONERS Front passenger front airbag, SBR warnings*: the inhibition key inhibits the warning light. This can still be configured using the diagnostic function, except in the case of SBR warnings*. 3. Seat belt locking monitoring: This function is managed by the computer (warning light and audible signal): Driver s seat belt buckled (contact open), Driver s seat belt not buckled (contact closed). 4. Management and Monitoring of the airbag warning lights: The airbag computer controls and checks the status of the Airbag fault and Airbag Off warning lights on the instrument panel. These signals are exchanged via wire. The Airbag fault warning light is lit for 4 seconds when the ignition is switched on (+ after ignition). This is the amount of time required by the system to become operational after the vehicle is started. It then remains off except under the following conditions: Detection and registering of an airbag system fault (input/output fault, configuration fault), A crash has been detected and registered, If the computer is crash locked by a diagnostic tool, If the computer must be programmed or reprogrammed. The Airbag Off warning light represents the actual status of passenger airbag inhibition: "off" = active (switch "ON"), "lit" = passenger airbag inactive (switch "OFF" or fault detected on the switch line). The 2 warning lights can be illuminated simultaneously. 5. "Crash output" signal activation. A "crash output" signal is transmitted by a wire, according to the type of impact, in order to inform the other computers that a crash has been detected. The functionality described below is given for information and cannot in any case be considered as contractual. 6. Management of fault finding signals. Fault finding of internal functions (self-test when switched on, verification of the configuration), fault finding for external functions (pyrotechnic ignition modules); fault finding for supply, Storage of faults identified when the vehicle is started, while the engine is running, or when the ignition is switched off, Permanent storage of the parameters relating to the crash algorithm and signals recorded during the crash, Permanent storage of system faults present before a crash, Control of the warning lights and the crash output signal. List and location of components Number Description 1 Airbag computer 2 Driver's lateral acceleration sensor (remote) 3 Front passenger's lateral acceleration sensor (remote) 4 Driver's front airbag 5 Front passenger front airbag 6 Driver's front seat belt buckle pyrotechnic inertia reel 34

The computer is designed to carry out the following functions: Detection and confirmation of front longitudinal impacts and/or side impacts; Corresponding activation of the pyrotechnic restraint devices (e.g.: pretensioners, airbag); Management of the function inhibiting the trigger lines and the lateral acceleration sensors; Management and monitoring of the Airbag fault and Airbag Off warning lights on the instrument panel (wire connections); 35

AIRBAG AND PRETENSIONERS Management of the warning lights for the SBR*, Management of the audible function for the SBR*, Management of the radio cut-off for the SBR*, Activation of the crash output signal in the event of a crash (wire connection), Management of the fault finding signals (signals provided by the fault manager in response to fault finding requests regarding internal faults or input/output fault finding). Special notes: 1- Longitudinal impacts: The detection of front or rear longitudinal impacts takes into account the signals from the internal accelerometers of the computer. 2- Side impacts: A side algorithm produces a characterisation of the impact using the signals from the side sensors and the computer internal sensor in order to initiate a protection adapted to the side impact. It generates a crash output signal according to the type of impact in order to inform the other computers that a crash has been detected. On vehicle versions that do not have these side sensors, the airbag computer nevertheless can handle the side detection for the crash output. The programming applied by the various computers likely to use this information is not described in this functional description. Additional information, for example the position of the inhibition key, may consequently modify the behaviour of the system (depending on the configuration adopted) in order to better respond to the protection requirements resulting from the situation identified and characterised. SBR*: (Seat Belt Reminder) 3- Inhibition of passenger triggers lines: This function is managed by the airbag computer, according to the position of the passenger airbag inhibition switch and taking into account the vehicle context. The status change of the inhibition switch responds to a transverse programming (manufacturer business rule) that authorises recognition for 10 seconds after the vehicle ignition is switched on (computer supply). Inhibition programming: Trigger lines inhibited and Airbag Off warning light lit if the switch is OFF (100 Ω), Trigger lines authorised if the switch is ON (400 Ω), trigger lines inhibited, Airbag Fault and Airbag Off warning lights lit if a fault is detected, if the switch is not configured and detected as present, or if there is a change of position outside of the conditions. By default, when the key is in the inhibition position, the following protections and signals are inhibited in the event of a crash: Front passenger front airbag; Front passenger chest-level airbag; SBR warnings*: the inhibition key inhibits the warning light and buzzer, and deactivates the occupant warning by radio cut-off. This can still be configured using the diagnostic function, except in the case of SBR warnings*. The passenger front airbag and passenger front chest-level airbag are inhibited when the locking switch is 36

AIRBAG AND PRETENSIONERS positioned on OFF or when DF028 PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT or DF193 PASSENGER AIRBAG LOCKING STATUS CHANGE is present in the computer memory. 4- Seat belt locking monitoring: This function is managed by the computer (warning light and audible signal): Driver s seat belt buckled (contact open), Driver s seat belt not buckled (contact closed). 5- Management and monitoring of the airbag warning lights: The airbag computer controls and checks the status of the Airbag fault and Airbag Off warning lights on the instrument panel. These signals are exchanged via wire. The Airbag fault warning light is lit for 4 seconds when the ignition is switched on (+ after ignition). This is the amount of time required by the system to become operational after the vehicle is started. It then remains off except under the following conditions: Detection and recording of an airbag system fault (input/output fault, configuration fault), A crash has been detected and registered, If the computer is crash locked by a diagnostic tool, If the computer must be programmed or reprogrammed. The Airbag Off warning light represents the actual inhibition status of the passenger airbags: "off" = active (switch "ON"), "lit" = passenger airbags inactive (switch "OFF" or fault detected on the switch line). The 2 warning lights can be illuminated simultaneously. SBR*: Seat Belt Reminder 6- Activation of "Crash output" signal. A crash output signal is transmitted by a wire, according to the type of impact, in order to inform the other computers that a crash has been detected. The functionality described below is given for information and cannot in any case be considered as contractual. Impact types Customer complaints Front: deactivation of automatic locking when driving, activation of the hazard warning lights, and unlocking of the steering column. Rear: deactivation of automatic locking when driving, activation of the hazard warning lights, and unlocking of the steering column. Side: deactivation of automatic locking when driving, activation of the hazard warning lights, and unlocking of the steering column. 7- Management of fault finding signals. Fault finding of internal functions (self-test when switched on, verification of the configuration), Fault finding of external functions (pyrotechnic ignition modules and sensors), fault finding for supply, Storage of faults identified when the vehicle is started, while the engine is running, or when the ignition is switched off, Permanent storage of the parameters relating to the crash algorithm and signals recorded during the crash, Permanent storage of system faults present before a crash, Control of the warning lights and the crash output signal. The airbag system components must be configured in accordance with the vehicle equipment criteria. 37

AIRBAG AND PRETENSIONERS All the inputs and outputs of the airbag computer (ignition modules and sensors) are configurable independently of one another. Any incorrect configuration is detected by the recording of the fault and the illumination of the Airbag fault warning light: "Open circuit" fault if an ignition module (or sensor) is configured, but the component is not connected, "configuration" faults if an ignition module (or sensor) is configured and the component is connected. If necessary, a command can be issued to return to the default configuration (configuration of the computer as delivered) IMPACT FUALT FINDING Chronological order of checks: - Front impact: (Gd) - (Ng) = (Gg) - (Nd) (Nd) - (Hg) = (Ng) - (Hd) - Rear impact: (Gd) - (Bg) = (Gg) - (Bd) (Bd) - (Jg) = (Bg) - (Jd) Detailed View of the Inspection Points Points Ad, Ag Points Bd, Bg Rear axle guide 38

Driving pleasure is exceptional with unparalleled handling and optimized stability. 39

STEERING Removing the actuator To avoid all risk of damage to the systems, apply the safety and cleanliness instructions and operation recommendations before carrying out any repair. Position the vehicle on a two-post lift Release the parking brake. Fit the pedal press on the brake pedal to limit the amount of brake fluid running out. Remove: - the rear wheels - the exhaust silencer - the bolts (1) of the rear axle guards, - the clips (2) of the rear axle guards, - the rear axle guards. Unclip the headlight beam adjustment sensor linkage. 40

STEERING Place a component jack under the lower cup of the left-hand spring. Remove the rear suspension springs. Remove the bolts (3) from the support of the control unit of the automatic parking brake. Remove: - the silencer heat shield clips (4), - the bolt (5) from the silencer heat shield, - the silencer heat shield (6). Remove: - The nuts (7) from the left under body protectors, remove the left under body protectors. Fit a component jack under the fuel tank. Remove the bolt from the fuel tank filler neck. Loosen the bolts (9) of the fuel tank to access the wiring of the four wheel steering actuator. 41

STEERING Mark the tracks of the wiring of the four wheel steering actuator. Disconnect the connectors (10). Remove the nut (11) from the earth strap. The earth strap nut is specific. Do not swap it with other nuts. Unclip the wiring strap (12). Unclip the wiring at (13). Mark the tracks of the parking brake cables. Unhook the parking brake cables from the callipers at (14). To avoid damaging the parking brake cable protectors and causing premature wear of the system, do not handle the cables with a tool. If the actuator is dropped or if there is a trace of impact on its body or on one of its components (sensor, ball joint, connectors), the actuator should be replaced. Mark: - The routing of the four-wheel drive actuator wiring,- the position of the four-wheel drive actuator linkage, on the compensator side, - the position, head down, of the four-wheel drive actuator bolts. Remove the ball joint protector (11). Mark the location of the bolts (12) on the four-wheel drive actuator. 42

STEERING The wiring and the actuator gaiter are areas which should not be touched. Handle the actuator by its casing. Check the condition of the rubber bush between the rear axle and the four wheel drive actuator. If the rubber bush in the forged wrench is damaged, replace the rubber bush. Refit the actuator and the other parts. Always replace: the four wheel drive actuator nut, the track rod nuts and the compensator bolts. TOWING AND LIFTING See the current towing regulations in each country. Never use the drive shafts, axle assembly components or suspension components as attachment points. Always fully tighten and lock the towing ring before use. Always pull in the direction of the rod's length in order to avoid breaking it. Vehicles fitted with automatic transmission: The vehicle should preferably be transported on a platform or towed by lifting the front wheels. As an exception, the vehicle may be towed with the wheels on the ground but at a speed below 12 mph (20km/h) and over a maximum distance of 18 miles (30 km) (with the gear lever in neutral). Vehicles fitted with Renault Card: If the vehicle battery is flat, the steering column remains locked. In this case, fit a new battery or connect to an electrical source to lock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool (see Airbag and pretensioners: Precautions for the repair) (MR 411, 88C, Airbag and pretensioners), which unlocks the steering column. If it is not possible to lock the airbag computer, the front of the vehicle must be lifted. To access the front attachment point, the front bumper trim (1) must be removed. In order to do this, release at area (2) with pull tag and slide out in direction (3). 43

TOWING AND LIFTING Fully screw in the towing ring supplied in the on-board vehicle tool kit located in the luggage compartment inside the emergency spare wheel.
