3 PROVEN SCOTCH YOKE DESIGN ALGA DOUBLE ACTING AND ALGAS SPRING RETURN These pneumatic actuators have an efficient design and deliver high break-out torques making them suitable for most quarter turn valves up to the largest sizes. They have been engineered to provide the optimum balance of simplicity, reliability and economy. A modular design concept provides maximum flexibility while their robust construction ensures long service life with minimal maintenance. They are suitable for both on-off and modulating control in heavy-duty service in the harshest environmental and operating conditions. ALGAS-QA This combines the precise and efficient ALGAS mechanism and fail safe spring action with Biffi proprietary design large capacity quick exhaust valve and damping system built integrally into the actuator cylinder end flange, allowing extremely fast emergency operations down to 0.5 sec. The canted yoke version produces peak torque outputs at one end of the stroke, as represented in Fig 1. They are therefore most suitable for use with valves which require a high break out torque, such as butterfly valves. The symmetric yoke version delivers peak torque at both ends of the stroke, as shown in Fig 2 and are most suitable for use with valves with a more consistent torque profile, such as ball valves. 4 MANUAL OVERRIDE MRHW MANUAL OVERRIDE MHP POSITION MONITOR A FULL RANGE OF ACCESSORIES ALGA and ALGAS actuators are available with a wide range of options and accessories, including manual overrides, control and monitoring devices and complete control systems, to ensure that your actuator is ideally suited for each application. MANUAL OVERRIDE WITH JACKSCREW (MSJ) A simple jackscrew mechanism engaged to a bronze split screw nut inside the body provides manual operation with minimum dimensional impact. Clutching lever ensures operator safety during normal operation. HANDWHEEL MANUAL OVERRIDE (MHW/MRHW) The conical spoked handwheel guarantees operator effort in line with ergonomic principles and regulations, with additional reduction gearing available on higher torque applications. HYDRAULIC MANUAL OVERRIDE (MHP) Efficient manual operation through an hydraulic hand pump also allows accurate adjustment of actuator stroke time independently in the opening and closing directions. Hydraulic flow regulators guarantee smooth operation across stroke. POSITION MONITORS, CONTROL MONITORS AND POSITIONERS ALGA and ALGAS actuators are available with a comprehensive range of devices which represent the latest technology for the monitoring and control of automated quarter turn valves. Analogue and intelligent positioners for actuator calibration, position feedback, performance verification and valve status intelligence. Fully certified range of position monitors, connected directly to the output drive, showing the exact valve position. Range of control monitors with integrated solenoid valves eliminates the need for costly adaptors to mount solenoids onto larger type actuators. Wireless valve monitoring systems. LIMIT SWITCH BOXES Limit switch boxes are rugged yet compact assemblies, designed for direct mounting onto the actuators for accurate indication of valve position. Weatherproof or explosionproof anodized aluminium enclosures provide full environmental protection. Nodular cast iron or stainless steel enclosures also available. Independently adjustable switches wired to a terminal block, for full angular valve travel. Switches and terminals suitable for use in intrinsically safe circuits available. External position indicator mounted on the top of the enclosure as standard. 5 LIMIT SWITCH BOX VALVE MONITORING IMVS CONTROL SYSTEMS INTEGRATED VALVE MONITORING SYSTEMS (IMVS) The IMVS is a fully automated partial stroking, smart valve and actuator diagnostic system capable of operating all actuator sizes without flow restriction or the need for costly additional equipment. It is an electronic device that provides operational, safety and diagnostic functions through a single or doubleacting actuator mounted on a valve driven by an external single or redundant solenoid valve. It enables diagnostic functions, including partial stroke test and continuous monitoring of valve actuator pressure and position, to be carried out with the valve on-line and in service with no disruption to the process. Automated partial stroke tests (PST) minimize disruption to the process by extending the intervals between a plant s full closure tests while maintaining the required SIL level. Valve position signal, functioning pressure signals and other optional external signals are monitored and processed by a microprocessor based logic mounted inside the device. CONTROL SYSTEMS Advanced engineering technology is used to design and manufacture pneumatic controls and accessories, based on customer specifications and application requirements The most stringent needs for control modes, operating conditions and customization can be met through the correct selection of schematics, components, materials and protection treatments. The control system can include devices for automatic operation or stay put in case of emergency - electric or pneumatic supply failure, high temperature, low or high pipeline pressure etc. Specially designed control systems can be supplied for heavy duty service or specific working conditions - low working temperature, sour gas supply, special emergency operation, etc. On-off or modulating actuator service. There are 11 sizes of central scotch yoke mechanism, to both sides of which can be attached a pneumatic cylinder and/or spring cartridge. Any of a range of manual override options can be fitted simply to the cylinder or centre body, which also incorporates integrated support brackets to allow the mounting of control accessories in a convenient and easily accessible position at the base of the actuator. ROBUST CONSTRUCTION ALGA and ALGAS actuators are built to last in materials that have been selected specifically to provide optimum performance and an extended service life with minimal maintenance. All the totally enclosed housings are in fabricated carbon steel, to provide maximum strength. A guide bar resists transverse loads and supports the piston rod. MINIMAL FRICTION Friction is minimised through the use of an electroless nickel-plated and polished cylinder, PTFE-impregnated bronze or sintered bronze bushings, hard chrome plated guide bar and spring container and piston rods. Friction is further reduced through floating type piston seals, which provide low hysteresis and high sensitivity, preventing sticking problems. MAXIMUM CORROSION RESISTANCE The use of hard chrome plated alloy steels and electroless nickel-plated carbon steels provide maximum corrosion resistance, extending service life. ACCURATE PERFORMANCE External travel stops allow precise angular stroke adjustment between 82 and ALGA/ALGAS
