5 4 CONSTRUCTION 1. Enclosure and partitions 9 The all-metal enclosure is completely earthed. Vacuum circuit breaker 9 The VCB is easy to operate, with the closing spring charge indicator, the manual close and trip buttons, the operation counter and mechanical ON / OFF indiof the circuit cator all being located on the front breaker. (See Figure 4-3.) 9 The circuit breaker has two positions, Service and Test/Disconnected, and may be optionally padlocked at each position. When the VCB is closed, the VCB locks in each position by mechanical interlock. When the VCB is opened, the interlock pin is released. 9 The circuit breaker can be easily drawn out or inserted by a simple rotation action. (See Figure 4-3.) Fused vacuum contactor 9 The fused vacuum contactor is easy to operate, with a man- ual trip button for mechanical latch type, an operation counter and mechanical ON / OFF indicator all located on the front of the fused contactor. Earthing devices Optional earthing devices are available forsafety during cable and busbar maintenanceand/or inspection.the following two types of earthing devicecan be provided upon request with the : 9 Integral earthing switch In the case of cable-side earthing, the earthing switch is integrated within the cablecompartment. A mechanical interlock between the earthing switch and circuit breaker( (or fused contactor) is provided. Bus-side earthing switches are usually intewithin a VT panel, and so employe- grated lectrical interlocking with the adjacent panel s circuit breaker. Gas exhaust duct and gas screen 9 For switchgear and controlgear requiring optional Internal Arc Classification (IAC), thegas exhaust duct must be fitted onto the top of panel. Thus, in the event of internal arcing,there is no ejection of parts, no expulsion of hot gases (except from the gas exhaustduct) and the enclosure remains earthed. Minimum clearances of 600 mm, 100 mmand 800 mm from the panel to the room s ceiling, side walls and back wall, respectively,are required.
