8 Safety is a primary concern in the design and manufacture of our products. Unfortunately, our efforts to provide safe equipment can be wiped out by an operator s single careless act. In addition to the design and configuration of equipment, hazard control and accident prevention are dependent upon the awareness, concern, judgement, and proper training of personnel involved in the operation, transport, maintenance and storage of equipment. It has been said The best safety device is an informed, careful operator. We ask you to be that kind of operator. TRAINING Safety instructions are important! Read all attachment and power unit manuals; follow all safety rules and safety decal information. (Replacement manuals are available from selling dealer.) Failure to follow instructions or safety rules can result in serious injury or death. If you do not understand any part of this manual and need assistance, see your dealer. Operators must be instructed in and be capable of the safe operation of the equipment, its attachments, and all controls. Do not allow anyone to operate this equipment without proper instructions. Never allow children or untrained persons to operate equipment. Train all new personnel and review instruction s frequently with existing workers. A person who has not read and understood all operating and safety instructions is not qualified to operate the machine. An untrained operator exposes himself and bystanders to possible serious injury or death. PREPARATION Always wear relatively tight and belted clothing to 4 Safety Rules avoid getting caught in moving parts. Wear sturdy, rough-soled work shoes and protective equipment for eyes, hair, hands, hearing, and head; and respirator or filter mask where appropriate. 16 Connecting the CR14 Series Compaction Roller The CR14 Series Compaction Roller is a connected to the tractor by hooking up the hydraulics and lowering the drums completely to the ground and wheels are raised off the ground and the weight is lifted off of the tongue enough to lift the tongue into the air. Then use the hydraulics to level the tongue of the roll-n-go to the rear hitch on the tractor. Insert the bolts through the two hitches. To connect the CR14 to the LL14 Series Land Leveler the same process is done, except that the hitch plates must be placed on first. Then the pin is placed through the circular hitch. The CR14 is disconnected from the tractor by lowering the drums completely to the ground and then raising the wheels off the ground until the weight is lifted off of the tongue enough to remove the bolts. Hydraulics It is important to keep hydraulics well maintained to prevent strain on the compaction roller or the power unit. Check fluids regularly and keep reservoirs filled to proper capacity. WARNING Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury. Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure. Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands and body from high pressure fluids. Spray from high pressure nozzles can penetrate the skin and cause serious injury. Keep spray from contacting hands or body. If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable medical source. Hydraulic hoses can fail due to physical damage, kinks, age, and exposure. Check hoses regularly, replace damaged hoses. IMPORTANT: All hydraulic couplers must be clear of debris, dust, and sand. Use protective caps on fluid openings until ready to make connection. Foreign material can damage the hydraulic system. The CR1448 Compaction Roller has 2 phasing hydraulic cylinders and the CR 1460 Compaction Roller has 4 phasing hydraulic cylinders. It is imperative that they be properly connected to work properly. NOTE: To help identify and properly connect hoses, refer to Figures 4 and 5 on the opposite page. NOTE: The hydraulic cylinders on the CR1448 are phasing cylinders. To rephase the cylinders cycle the cylinders as far out as they will go. They probably won't be even, but they are correct. Then close the cylinders as far as they will go. Complete this cycle until the cylinders are functioning evenly. This usually takes 3 or 4 times. 12 Operation
