2 Congratulations! You have purchased a LUMISHORE advanced LED technology underwater lighting system. Every care has been taken to ensure your Surface Mount e-lite SMX90-CS Colour-SELECT light system arrives in perfect condition, so please enjoy the ultimate experience in underwater lighting. Please read the following pages to ensure a complete understanding of the LUMISHORE LED lighting system before installation. Adding underwater lighting to your vessel has never been easier. To mount the colour-select e-lite; one cable hole and three mounting screws is all it takes. Included in the system is a unique Rocker Switch that allows selection of colours and Fishing Strobe modes. Compact, with a very slim profile, the SMX90-CS e-lite competes with other LED models costing over twice as much. 3 1.0 BEFORE YOU START The light can be installed above or below the waterline. For best underwater illumination, LUMISHORE recommends installation 4 to 12 (90-300mm) below the waterline Choose a location, keeping in mind: o The light must be mounted on a flat (not curved) surface. o A hole will be drilled to allow the cable to be inserted; care must be taken to ensure there is unrestricted access (including inside the hull for underwater installation) o When installing three or more lights, equal spacing is recommended to give a consistent light pool o The light is temperature sensitive and must not be located close to the exhaust outlet o The e-lite series operates on both 12V and 24V DC systems. Never connect a light directly to the mains AC voltage. o Each light should be fused and the serial number recorded. Please refer to the tables below. Voltage SMX90-CS Light Serial Number 12VDC 6Amp Fuse 24VDC 3Amp Fuse 2.0 PHYSICAL INSTALLATION 2.1 Materials Drill and bits for cable and pilot hole screws: Cable PILOT for screws 3M 4200 sealant (or equivalent) 7/16 (10.5mm) 9/64 (3.5mm) Philips type screwdriver Marine grade fuse Waterproof connectors or soldering iron and heat shrink tubing Rag(s) for cleanup 2.2 Mounting 1. Select a suitable flat surface that is accessible from behind and ensure the cable can be run without a problem. 2. In Section 8 of this guide is an e-lite installation template. Photocopy the template for each light to install and tape it in the position you want to install the light. IMPORTANT: To ensure consistent colour outputs, the LUMISHORE logo printed in the installation template must be positioned at the top when taping the template for installation 3. Drill the pilot and the power cable holes using the drill bits mentioned in the MATERIALS section above. 4. Apply continuous, thick beads of sealant as follows: (a) around the cable entry hole, (b) around the screw holes, (c) in a ring approximately 0.4 (10mm) from the edge of the light and (d) around the cable (see diagram below). 5. Push the power cable through the cable hole you have drilled and align the light with the pilot hole screws. 6. Attach the light to the hull using the 3 stainless steel screws provided. Hand tighten with a screwdriver. IMPORTANT: Do not over tighten 7. Use a damp cloth to wipe off excess sealant that was squeezed out around the light. IMPORTANT: For underwater installations: Refer to sealant directions to make sure it has fully cured before launching the boat in the water. SEALANT AREAS LIGHT MOUNTING Page 3

4 3.0 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION 3.1 Rocker switch The panel mount Rocker Switch supplied with the SMX90-CS-2 MUST BE USED and MUST NOT BE SUBSTITUTED. 1. The switch is used to turn the lights ON or OFF, change colours and also enable Fishing Strobe Modes. 2. The Rocker Switch is supplied with cable to which the installer must connect additional wire, using proper splicing methods to ensure no current drop and protection from corrosion. 3. Up to four lights can be installed per Rocker Switch 4. The switch is designed to fit in a panel switch hole. 5. If a panel hole is not available the Rocker Switch is supplied with a installation flange (illustrated in the image in the next section below) Wire Colours Rocker switch with wires Installation flange Wire Colour Tag on wire Connection Red Battery +VE Positive from battery source Black Battery -VE Negative (ground) from battery source Red Light +VE To red wire on light Black Light -VE To black wire on light Yellow Light data To yellow wire on light Cable size (Gauge) The correct cable size must be used to connect the battery source to the e-lite Series lights. 10 gauge cable is recommended from Battery to light maximum 4 lights. The maximum cable length from the source (DC panel or Battery) to a individual light is 50 Feet (15m) 3.2 Connection example Page 4

5 3.4 Switch operation Top Position = OFF Middle Position = ON Colour-SELECT Press the switch down (center position) to turn on the lights. Press the lower part of the switch down (multiple times) to select each preset colour: Blue, Green, White, Cyan (also called aqua or blue-green) FISHING STROBE MODE 1. Select the light colour by pressing the switch down multiple times until the desired colour is selected. 2. Press and hold the switch down until the lights start flashing then release the switch (Slow Fish Strobe mode). 3. Press again to select Fast Fish Strobe mode. 4. To exit Fish Strobe mode, press and hold the switch down until the lights enter Colour-SELECT mode. Change = MODE 4.0 MAINTENANCE LUMISHORE lenses require infrequent or no cleaning if the light is used regularly. In the event that your lens requires cleaning we suggest the use of a soft cloth or soft bristled brush. Should your e-lite be defective during this period, please contact your dealer as soon as you become aware of the defect. Misuse, abuse, improper installation, neglect, improper shipping, damage caused by disasters such as fire, flood and lightning, installation by unqualified personnel, unauthorized repair or modification will void this warranty.
