Rain Bird 751 Series Golf Rotors Turn-of of-a-screw Flexibility Water Restrictions Over-seeding Fertigation Grow In
Rain Bird 751 Series Golf Rotors Simple ARC Settings Set primary rotor arc. Turn the Full/Part Adjustment Screw for full-circle operation Turn to part circle again for ether Arc A or Arc B setting. No need to adjust arc when going between full- and part-circle settings.
Part-Circle/ Full-Circle Adjustments Orient the case and then orient the head Factory set to part-circle with left trip aligned with hash mark. Left trip is fixed; the Right trip adjusts. Easy to change from part-circle to full-circle Changing back to P/C requires making sure it s pointing in the right direction before you change it
Part-Circle/ Full-Circle Switch Mechanics To change the setting, turn the FC/PC screw until it hits the stop Never force the screw beyond the stop Using the right sized screw driver (1/4 blade) will make it easier to adjust and less likely to strip the screw The FC/PC lever is keyed for easy assembly
Arc Switch Settings & Mechanics Arc adjustment increases or decreases the arc; it does not adjust the head to full circle One 360 o turn = approx. 10 o arc change How to know if you re in the A arc or B arc: use the arrow In A arc + increases arc, in B arc it decreases arc and vice versa for - The adjustment stems are designed to fail before the internal gears. They can be easily replaced.
Signs of a Broken Arc Adjust Stem Arc drift Arc erratically changes over time Arc Won t adjust Arc adjustments don t change the setting Stalls Arc stalls during operation
Replacing a Broken Arc Adjust Stem Order using PN Qty 10 per bag Remove the nozzle housing Gently pull out the black arc adjust stem Insert new stem Replace nozzle housing It s as easy as that!

Rain Bird Golf Rotors Operation
Selector Assembly Operation
How not to get wet when turning on a rotor manually? Use the move to accomplish this goal
Color Coded PRS Case Pressure
How does the Water Travel Through the Sprinkler? Selector/PRS Case Nozzle Internal Assembly Valve Water Supply
Valve in Head Operation Part Rotor closed Water flows through filter screen Fills upper housing of valve Exits through Probe hole Enters selector and flow stops Pressure in valve above diaphragm forces bottom seal to seat against TSRS
Valve in Head Operation Part Rotor opening When solenoid activated or selector turned to ON, water is exhausted to case Pressure forcing valve closed is released and feeder line pressure opens valve to allow water to flow through rotor
How does a rotor operate? Our next five slides will answer the age old question of how the rotor actually works. 1. Operation of the diaphragm valve with water flow. There are two different types of valves that are used in Rain Bird rotors. They are the RDV (Regulated Diaphragm Valve) for 500 and 700 series and the HPDV (High Pressure Diaphragm Valve) for 900 and 1100 series. 2. Operation of the PRS (Pressure Regulated System) valve with pressured flow. The PRS valve plays a large part in the control features of the heads all around performance.
Operation - Diaphragm Valve Water flows through filter screen Fills upper housing of valve Exits through Probe hole Enters selector If closed/off, flow stops Force on top of diaphragm forces valve against seat
Operation - Diaphragm Valve When solenoid activated or selector turned to ON, water is exhausted to case Force holding valve closed is released and lateral line pressure opens valve to allow water to flow through rotor
When the solenoid is activated or selector turned to ON, water is exhausted to case It also applies force to the PRS diaphragm and spring which has the poppet attached. As pressure increases, the poppet is forced up against the PRS spring and flow is metered through the lower stem orifice. Operation - PRS
Operation - PRS As the orifice becomes smaller, flow from the top of the valve is reduced This action causes the valve to start to close. The PRS spring force is adjustable via the adjustment screw. When adjusted, this will vary the force that is counteracting the water force applied to the diaphragm. (Each full CW turn increases case pressure by 10 psi)
Operation - PRS Spring and Poppet force will equalize and the opening between the Lower Stem and Poppet will meter the exhaust flow from the Valve. Equalization of the pressure on both Top and Bottom of the Valve has created a metered opening between the TSRS seat and the Valve Seat We now have Regulated Case Pressure Any increase or decrease in Base pressure will be compensated by the PRS and the Case Pressure will remain stable.
Rain Bird Golf Rotors Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors Troubleshooting can be categorized into two areas: Common Problems Rotation Pop-Up Mechanism Electrical Design Issues Distribution Spacing Pipe Sizing
1. SRP (Ring Pliers 900/950/1100/1150) D SR700 (Snap-Ring Pliers 700/750/500/550) D VTDR (Valve Insertion Tool 900/950/1100/1150) B VT700 (Valve Insertion Tool 700/750/751/500/550) B EGLSVK (EAGLE Selector Service Tool/Key) B DRSVK7 (7" (17,8 cm) Selector Valve Key) D02215 Rotor Service Tools 7. DRSVK18 (18" (45,7 cm) Selector Valve Key) D ISTSRS (Installation Socket for Top- Serviceable Rock Screen ) D
Other Necessary Tools A/C volt Ohm meter to check power points and solenoid resistance (28-32 Ohms) Handheld air tank with blow out tip Sharp shooter and pointed edge shovels Mainline and lateral line valve keys Liquid filled pressure gauge Flat-head screwdriver for top snap ring and PRS Phillips screwdriver for nozzle turret screws
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors What are the Symptoms? Is the Rotor Popping Up Is the Rotor Sticking Up Is it Rotating Slow Fast Not Moving How does the Water look coming out of the Nozzle Is the Rotor leaking (weeping) when off Does the Rotor Turn ON then Shuts OFF Is there leakage around the Selector/PRS
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors Most problems are easily diagnosed!!! NEVER JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS!!! First identify the root of the problem and troubleshoot the component, not the complete rotor. When a problem is identified separate the rotor into individual components: Valve, Internal Assembly, Selector, or Regulator Generally the replacement of one component will eliminate the problem.
Troubleshooting Guides
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors Rotor Troubleshooting Guide Designed to apply a systematic approach to troubleshooting that will preserve evidence and lead to the ROOT CAUSE Root Cause is not a symptom. Symptom: My rotor is weeping, causing the ground to be muddy around the top of the head! Root Cause: There is debris caught between the valve seal and the seat, keeping the valve from sealing properly.
Common Failure Modes 1. Stuck-on or Slow to shut off (rotor continues to run after the irrigation cycle, or takes more than a few seconds to stop) 2. Weeps When Off (water leaking from around the head) 3. Won t turn on 4. Head won t rotate
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors Rotor Stuck On (rotor continues to run after the irrigation cycle, or takes more than a few seconds to stop) Continuous voltage from controller or decoder Faulty ICM Jammed plunger Debris between TSRS and valve seat Broken plunger spring Cracked or leaking tubing, elbows, PRS on outside of case Faulty valve or Clogged universal filter Faulty PRS Magnetized U-frame
Troubleshooting for Stuck-On Heads 1. Check the PRS selector on the head and make sure that it is not in the ON position 2. Tap the top of the case and if that doesn t work remove the U-Frame and solenoid coil, or ICM 3. Check to ensure there is no voltage coming from the controller or decoder 4. Check to ensure the plunger retracts to the OFF position in ICM after being activated 5. Tap the core tube a couple of times to see if the plunger re-seats itself 6. Turn PRS selector switch to off (turn the water off at this point)
Stuck-On Heads Continued 7. Pinch the high pressure tube for ten seconds and also at the same time look at the elbow fitting to see if it is leaking (use CAUTION when doing this to the high pressure tube) 8. Isolate lateral line, relieve pressure 9. Remove the valve and the TSRS and check for cracks in the valve, dirty universal filter, check and see if valve seal or seat is cracked 10.Replace rotor case, return to your Rain Bird distributor for replacement if under warranty. (3 years or 5 years with Rain Bird Swing Joint)
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors Rotor Weeps When Off PRS nut loose Valve seal damaged flip over Damaged or loose TSRS Debris between valve seat and TSRS Cracked valve housing Plunger seal, volcano, yellow o-ring, plunger spring Bent or Cracked core tube Cracked or leaking tubing, elbows, PRS on outside of case
Weeping Rotors 1. Run the rotor a couple of times to see if the weeping stops 2. Make sure PRS lock nut is tight (turn the water off to the rotor at this point) 3. Remove the valve and TSRS to see if the valve seal is damaged and flip it over before reinstalling, also check the TSRS (valve seat) for damage 4. Check the valve for cracks and the elbow probe for bad o-rings. Flip over the valve seal.
Weeping Issues Continued 5. Check the selector o-rings below the PRS selector for damage 6. Take out the core tube and check all parts of the plunger and o-rings for damage 7. Check the high pressure and dump tubes for cracks or leaks at the bottom of the head and below the PRS 8. For weeping issues during operation, check the bearing guide and pop-up seal for signs of damage. 9. Replace rotor case, return to your Rain Bird distributor for replacement if under warranty
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors Rotor Wont Turn On No water pressure PRS selector in OFF mode or in between No output voltage from controller or decoder Wire fault on station or zone wire Faulty solenoid Jammed plunger Clogged exhaust port tubing Faulty valve
Rotor Won t Turn On 1. Check for water pressure and flow 2. Make sure the controller or decoder is providing power to the solenoid 3. Make sure that the PRS selector is in the auto position 4. Manually turn it to on to see if the head will work 5. Check the resistance at the controller and the solenoid to make sure that they are correct (28-32 Ohms)
Rotor Won t Turn On 6. Depressurize head and carefully remove core tube. Check to see if plunger is stuck in the closed position 7. Remove valve, with portable air tank, blow through the PRS selector holes, through the bottom of the head 8. Replace the valve if needed
Rotor Won t Turn On 9. Check the two wire path in the decoder system to make sure that all connections going to that particular head are good connections and that none of the wires are broken on the way 10.Replace rotor case, return to your Rain Bird distributor for replacement if under warranty
Troubleshooting Golf Rotors Rotor Head Wont Rotate Clogged internal screen Clogged TSRS Clogged nozzle Wrong stator/poppet configuration Debris in gear assembly or stuck turbine Inadequate water pressure
Rotor Won t Rotate 1. Turn the rotor on with selector switch to check rotation 2. Check the pressure at the head to make sure it is adequate to operate the head (turn the water off at this point) 3. Check internal screen for debris 4. Check the stator to make sure it is in the correct configuration for the case pressure and nozzle size
Rotor Won t Rotate Continued 5. While the screen and stator are removed, check the turbine to make sure it is turning freely 6. Lastly take the valve out of the rotor and see if the TSRS has debris inside 7. Replace the internal, return to your Rain Bird distributor for replacement if under warranty
Date Codes Internal Stamped on riser Best to use because it s: Easy to read More accurate Few different formats Generally 2 digit day and year 2 letter month
Date Codes Valve Printed in yellow ink on top of bonnet Best to use for suspected valve issues Sometimes hard to read Usually mm/dd/yy format. Ignore the time stamp
Date Codes Date Codes are Important for Problem Resolution If the date code on the rotor is within warranty (3 years or 5 years with Rain Bird swing joints) please return the product or part to your local Rain Bird distributor for replacement. When returning the product or part provide the distributor with all details related to the issue so the distributor can request the return documentation to send it to Rain Bird for analysis. Providing detailed information is important as it helps the distributor and Rain Bird quickly diagnose your problem and provide a solution to you and others with similar issues.
