5 CONTRACT #IT-201X-EN-0XX SYSTEMS PAGE 4 f APPLICABILITY AND LIMITATIONS 1.1 This specificatin sectin pertains t the supply and installatin f an in-flr radiant heating system. 1.2 This sectin shall be read in cnjunctin with the GO Transit/Metrlinx specificatins: Snw Melting Systems. 1.3 In the cntext f these specificatins, heating fluid means either the plyprpylene glycl used fr the snw melting system (since the heating plant is cmmn) r water (in the absence f a cncurrent snw melting system). The designer shall adjust the calculatins t suit the fluid used. 1.4 The fllwing cmpnents are nt cvered by this sectin: The heating surce fr the heating agent and all assciated cmpnents; they are included in the Snw Melting Systems specificatin and are fully applicable t this sectin. The building autmatin system (BAS) central hardware and sftware cmpnents (cntrl panels, sftware and graphics, server, etc); they are included in the Snw Melting Systems specificatin and are fully applicable t this sectin Mechanical General Cnditins including but nt limited t duties f cntractrs, material substitutins, shp drawings, cntractual bligatins; they are included in the Snw Melting Systems specificatin and are fully applicable t this sectin. DESIGN CRITERIA AND PRINCIPLES 3.1 General The building s structure and the flr finish installatin influences the decisin regarding the best radiant heating cnstructin methd. Fr best results, the flr cnstructin shuld be crdinated with the architect and structural engineer. Flr cnstructin methds play an imprtant rle in the perfrmance f the radiant heating system. The flr shuld allw fr the heat frm the pipes t dissipate readily and evenly t the heated space. Dwnward heat flw shuld be minimized by emplying adequate insulatin. 3.2 Heating Lads The system shall be sized t ffset the building heat lsses thrugh the envelpe. The heat lsses thrugh walls, windws, rfs, flrs, skylights, drs, etc. shall be calculated using an industry-accepted sftware such as Carrier HAP prgram r similar. Infiltratin lads thrugh static envelpe elements (such as windw frames, etc) shall nt be cnsidered, since the buildings are t be maintained at a slight psitive pressure by the ventilatin equipment. In areas expsed t high indr/utdr traffic, the infiltratin rate due t frequent exterir drs pening shall be calculated based n the estimated drs peratin, pening areas and temperature differential between indr and utdr. The methdlgy is described in detail in the ASHRAE Fundamentals Manual (Ventilatin and Infiltratin Air Leakage Thrugh Exterir Drs). At the latitude f the designer, a safety cefficient can be added t accunt fr the heat lsses thrugh the system (un-insulated maniflds, expansin tanks, etc.).

Additinal variables are the ccupied/unccupied schedules. The default values shall be crdinated with GO Transit fr each applicatin. Fr the purpse f heat lss calculatins with radiant heating systems the indr setpints nted abve may be lwered 2 t 4 F (1 t 2 C) cmpared t cnventinal perimeter basebards r frced-air heating systems. 3.4 Maximum Flr Surface Temperatures In rder t determine the required flr temperature utside the perimeter band, use the fllwing methdlgy: Based n the ttal heat lad calculatin, calculate the radiant flr heat utput requirement in Btu/h-ft 2 (W/m 2 ) fr each thermal zne using the fllwing frmula: Flr Heat Output = Ttal Heat Lad/Available Area Available area is nrmally less than ttal area. Deduct nn-heated areas where heating pipe cannt r shuld nt be installed, such as under walls, vending machines, islands r furniture. Calculate the radiant flr surface temperature that is needed t achieve the required heat utput int the rm. The flr surface temperature is the temperature at the uter surface f the finished flr. T calculate the flr surface temperature in F ( C), use the fllwing equatin: Flr Surface Temp = Flr Heat Output/HTC + Indr Temperature where the Heat Transfer Cefficient (HTC) is recmmended as 2.0 Btu/(hr-sq.ft.- O F) r W/m 2 -K The maximum flr surface temperature shall nt exceed 85 O F (29 O C), except fr the 3 ft wide perimeter band, where the temperature may be raised up t 90 O F (32 O C). If the flr surface temperature exceeds the advisable temperature set in these guidelines r the allwable flr cvering temperatures (see belw), take the fllwing actins: Reduce the heat requirements by imprving building envelpe efficiency Increase the radiant surface area t include nt nly the flr but als walls and/r ceilings Use supplemental heat (basebards, reheat cils)

8 CONTRACT #IT-201X-EN-0XX SYSTEMS PAGE 7 f Maximum Under-Flr Cvering Temperature Every flr cvering has a thermal resistance. The type and material used fr flring shall be crdinated with the architect. Flr prducts used with radiant heating systems shuld have high heat transmissin values (lw R-values) t achieve the best pssible heat transfer frm the pipes t the rm. Flr cverings shuld als be as thin and dense as pssible and be able t withstand the heat utput f the radiant panel. In rder t achieve the required Flr Surface Temperature, the temperature f the slab at the underside f the flr cvering needs t be higher, in rder t vercme the thermal resistance f the flr cvering. The thermal resistance f the flr cvering shall be calculated taking int accunt all the layers invlved (such as mrtar bed, final grut, ceramic tiles, etc.) Flr cvering materials have temperature limits dictated by their cmpsitin. The calculated temperature at the underside f the flr cvering shall nt exceed the value recmmended by the manufacturer. Fr specific flr finishes materials and thicknesses, crdinate with the architect. Avid under-flr cvering temperatures in excess f 100 O F (38 O C). If the under-flr cvering temperature resulting frm calculatins exceeds 103 O F (39.5 O C), re-select the in-flr pipe diameter and the pipe spacing. Typically, flr and under-cvering temperatures are cntrlled and mnitred by embedded temperature sensrs. 3.6 Thermal Zning A thermal zne is an area f temperature cntrl. Typically, a grup f ffices r similar will cnstitute a separate zne. Larger areas (such as cmmn waiting areas in a GO Transit statin) may be subdivided in several thermal znes, based n gegraphical rientatin and prximity t exterir walls. 3.7 Thermal expansin The design must allw fr absrptin f the mvement f the thermal mass f the flr slab. T prevent uncntrlled cracking and/r damage t the embedded piping, the architect shall segment the thermal slab int smaller sectins called thermal bays by emplying an apprpriate arrangement f mvement jints. The develpment f cracks in the flr r distrtin in the piping are unacceptable. The layut f the heating pipe and the flr slab jints must be crdinated with the architect and the structural engineer. Pipe circuits are t be planned and installed such that they d nt crss mvement jints. Mvement jints shuld nly be crssed by the cnnectin piping (circuit supply and return tails).

9 CONTRACT #IT-201X-EN-0XX SYSTEMS PAGE 8 f Pipe spacing GO Transit recmmends the pipe spacing be selected t prvide the mst cmfrtable flr surface temperature and the mst energy efficient system. Clser pipe spacing imprves the unifrmity f the flr surface temperature and lwers the heating fluid temperature, resulting in greater energy efficiency. The typical pipe spacing shall be: tiled flrs: 6 t 8 in the perimeter band and 6" t 9" in the field f the thermal zne (t prevent cncentrated ht and cld spts) carpeted flrs: 6 t 8 in the perimeter band and 6" t 12" in the field f the thermal zne ( t prevent cncentrated ht and cld spts) bare finished cncrete: depends f heat lss, up t 18" pssible. 3.9 Pipe sizes The embedded pipe sizes shall be selected as fllws: 5/8" diam fr circuits up t 400 ft 3/4" diam fr circuits up t 500 ft 1" diam fr circuits larger than 500 ft. The length f a particular circuit shall be based n the area f each thermal zne and the fllwing criteria: pipe spacing 6" - 2 ft pipe length per sq.ft f space. pipe spacing 8" ft pipe length per sq.ft f space. pipe spacing 9" ft pipe length per sq.ft f space. pipe spacing 10" ft pipe length per sq.ft f space. pipe spacing 12" ft pipe length per sq.ft f space. The ttal resulting length fr each circuit shall nt exceed the maximum value allwed fr a particular pipe diameter Piping Layut Guidelines Fllwing are sme basic pipe layut recmmendatins: D nt run pipes under built-ins (e.g., cabinets, windw seats, large appliances, raised hearths, stairs)

10 CONTRACT #IT-201X-EN-0XX SYSTEMS PAGE 9 f 37 Keep pipes a minimum f 6 in (15 cm) away frm the edge f the slab, walls and nailing surfaces, and ther lcatins where plates, fixtures r built-ins might be fastened int the flr Keep balanced circuit lengths within 10% f each ther Design separate circuits fr different rms, allwing better rm temperature cntrl Keep thermal znes reasnably sized D nt run circuit pipes acrss mvement jints Select the pipe size that is large enugh fr the applicatin 3.11 Fluid Heating Temperature GO Transit recmmends the lwest heating fluid temperature that will prvide the required panel surface temperature. This will minimize thermal stress n slabs and flr cverings, and minimize vershting f the desired ambient rm temperature. GO Transit suggests the fllwing criteria: temperature drp acrss the embedded circuits: 20 F (11 C). average fluid temperature (between supply and return): 110 F (43.5 C). T be nted: flr cverings, pipe spacing and selected indr temperature may have a significant impact n the average fluid temperature. Highly resistive flr cverings (e.g., carpet and padding) require the fluid temperature t be increased t vercme the resistance t heat flw thrugh the flr. Highly cnductive flr cverings (e.g., tile) require a lwer fluid temperature t prvide the same heat utput. The heating fluid temperature is als affected by the selected indr setpint selected and the pipe spacing. The cnsultant will check with the equipment manufacturer and make crrectins t the GO Transit temperature guidelines if s required. Optimizing the average fluid temperature may require changing previusly selected values fr pipe size and spacing. The designer will need t reiterate the previus calculatins with the newly selected values Manifld Sizing When sizing a manifld, several criteria must be taken int accunt: Maniflds are selected accrding t the pipe size, number f circuits and circuit flw rates. Smaller maniflds (up t 6 circuits), in varius building lcatins, are usually preferred t a large, central manifld (such as 10, 11, 12 r mre circuits).

11 CONTRACT #IT-201X-EN-0XX SYSTEMS PAGE 10 f 37 With large maniflds, the designer shuld cnsider the effect f manifld lcatin n the radiant heating system design and the impact f bringing numerus pipes in t ne area. Fr example, a 12 circuit manifld has 24 inlet/utlet pipes which result in a cngested pipe layut and an excessively warm area near the manifld. Based n the abve, determine the number f circuits fr each manifld. Zning the building usually increases the number f circuits resulting in maniflds with mre utlets. Preferably, a manifld will serve multiple thermal znes with similar heating requirements (such as exterir znes facing East, etc). Avid cnnecting cre areas and perimeter areas t the same manifld. The fluid flw fr each thermal zne shall be calculated based n the heat utput f the respective circuit, the nature f the fluid used (water, glycl) and the temperature differential (usually 20 O F r 11.1 O C). The fluid flw thrugh the manifld shall be calculated as the sum f all the circuits flws served by the respective manifld. Verify fluid velcities thrugh each pipe sectin; ensure that n pipe sectin cnveys fluid at mre than 4.5 fps (1.37 m/s) 3.13 Maniflds Lcatin Identify the manifld lcatin befre beginning the pipe layut. Use the fllwing criteria: Maniflds must always be installed within the heated space, and nt be lcated in an unheated area. Maniflds shuld be installed clse t the heating znes in a cnvenient lcatin fr bth the installatin and fr future accessibility (t reduce the length f pipe tails) Ensure that the maniflds fit in the available space Review the prximity t the heat surce t minimize the distributin piping Review the area security t prevent tampering, especially areas pen t the public. Review maintenance clearances Typical manifld lcatins include mechanical rms, clsets (behind an access panel), belw subflrs (munted hrizntally), underneath stairwells, inside cabinetry, in windw bxes r benches r hallways (in a recessed manifld cabinet)

A valve actuatr shall be installed t the header balancing valve t pen and clse the circuit. Heat requirements are higher near exterir walls and windws and diminish tward the center f the rm. A 3 ft wide band alng the perimeter area f the building shall be supplied by separate supply and return maniflds and maintain a higher slab temperature; fr the perimeter band, it is permitted t serve multiple thermal znes frm a single pair f dedicated maniflds, prvided they face the same gegraphical rientatin. Serpentine Pattern: prvides mre heat t the perimeter areas than t the interir f the rm, where ccupants are mre likely t gather. Typically, the mst effective way t heat a rm is t use a serpentine pattern at the edges and a cunter flw spiral pattern in the middle Pump Selectin Circulatr pumps shuld be sized t achieve the radiant system design flw rate. T size a pump, determine the required flw fr the radiant heating system and the ttal frictin lsses t be vercme frm all cmpnents. Use manufacturer-supplied tables fr pressure drp rates in under-slab pipes and fittings. Fr abve-grund rigid piping (cpper r steel) use infrmatin available in ASHRAE handbks t determine the pressure drps in pipes and fittings.

13 CONTRACT #IT-201X-EN-0XX SYSTEMS PAGE 12 f 37 The pump utlet pressure must nt exceed the embedded pipe ratings. Failure t fllw this instructin may damage the pipe resulting in leaks and peratinal failures Cntrl Strategies The temperature f the slab is cntrlled and limited by separate embedded sensrs, t prevent damage t the slab and flr cverings. The heating utput f the circuits served by each manifld is determined by a 3-way mixing valve at the interface between the in-flr heating secndary lp and the heating plant primary lp. The valve can cmbine fluid returning frm the under-flr lp with fluid supplied by the primary heat surce, t maintain the ptimum median fluid temperature in the under-flr piping system. The gal is t maintain the supply fluid at the pre-determined underflr cvering temperature and the ptimum temperature differential between the supply and return maniflds at between 18 O F and 22 O F (10 O C t 12.5 O C). The cmfrt level in each thermal zne is maintained by a space sensr; the space sensr has the ability t clse r pen a 2-way valve assciated with each circuit within a manifld. The tw-way valve may be 2-psitin r mdulating type. Outdr weather cmpensating cntrls (utdr reset cntrls) shall adjust the rate f heat delivered by the primary surce t mre clsely match the heat lss f a building, allwing the indr air temperature t remain relatively cnstant. The utdr reset cntrl measures the utdr air temperature, then calculates the target supply fluid temperature fr the radiant system. This target supply temperature is cnstantly updated thrughut the day as utdr cnditins change. The cntrl can perate upn the heat surce, upn a primary/secndary lp mixing valve r a variable speed injectin pump t adjust the heating fluid temperature tward the calculated target value. 4. GENERAL SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Certificatin Equipments Certificatin f flame spread/smke develpment rating f 25/50 in accrdance with ASTM E84 fr the fllwing PEX tubing sizes when installed un-insulated at a tube spacing nt less than 18 inches (457.2mm) apart. 4.2 Perfrmance Requirements: Prvide hydrnic radiant heating system that is manufactured, fabricated and installed t cmply with regulatry agencies and authrities with jurisdictin, and maintain perfrmance criteria stated by the PEX tubing manufacturer withut defects, damage r failure.

(UL). 4.4 Manufacturer Credentials Hydrnic radiant system manufacturer shall have successfully cmpleted five installatins f similar type and scpe. Manufacturer shall prvide frm the factry a full-time representative t supervise the cmplete design, detailing, crdinatin, installatin and cmmissining f the hydrnic radiant system. The cntractr shall furnish all labr, materials, tls, equipment, appliances and services necessary t deliver and install all hydrnic radiant dimensins t the hydrnic radiant manufacturer. 5. SUBMITTALS 5.1 Prduct Data: Submit manufacturer s prduct submittal data and installatin instructins. 5.2 Submit the fllwing shp drawings, calculatins and reprts. Submit shp drawings fr piping installatin in the prject. Indicate all valves, pumps and items f equipment that are required t cntrl and perate the hydrnic radiant system fr heating and/r cling as shwn n the drawings and described in the sequence f peratins. Submit a valve and pump schedule listing each number, type, size, mdel and service. Crss reference t supprting prduct data. Submit manufacturer's detailed drawings shwing layuts, fixing details and piping details f all areas where hydrnic radiant systems are indicated alng with prduct and perfrmance data fr each cmpnent. Prvide calculatins that supprt the heating and/r cling perfrmance requirements f the hydrnic radiant system. These calculatins shuld shw the flw thrugh the system fr heating and/r cling as well as the primary heating and/r cling cnnectins t the radiant system headers and cntrl circuits. Prvide system pressure-drp calculatins as well. Submit drawings shwing details f maniflds, including all cnnectins and valves. If maniflds are t be installed n a wall, then the details shuld include all fixture details. If the maniflds are t be installed in wall cavities, then prvide all fixture and access details. Specify piping materials and temperature/pressure ratings. Prvide drawings shwing the lcatin f all expansin and penetratin sleeves, shwing crdinatin with cncrete slab expansin jints. Prvide cnfirmatin f cncrete slab expansin requirements and the use f any cncrete additives. Prvide drawings shwing piping manifld lcatins and installatin details.

Prvide piping sample with certificatin f prperties. Submit manufacturer's reprt detailing that the hydrnic radiant system has been installed in accrdance with this specificatin and the manufacturer's specified instructins. Submit reprt indicating that installatin was perfrmed accrding t the manufacturer's instructins. Include pressure testing dcumentatin as required in related specificatin sectins. Submit start-up reprt demnstrating that system meets required capacity, is fully functinal and cmmissined t the satisfactin f system manufacturer. Prvide installatin drawings indicating tubing layut, manifld lcatins, zning requirements and manifld schedules with details required fr installatin f the system.
