1 240 Fabricated (H) HUTCHENS H9700 and CH9700 SUSPENSIONS All 9700 series suspensions are available with either fabricated or cast steel hangers and rockers. These hangers come in various styles. Straddle Mount (Str/Mt) Straddle mount hangers are for use with box type frames. Each hanger straddles the frame and is welded to both sides of the frame. T-S-H9700 T-S-CH9700 Cast (CH) Under Mount Un/mt) Under Mount hangers are welded flush to the bottom of the frame. Side Mount (Si/mt) Side mount hangers are welded to the side of the frame. They are useful on flatbed sliders and "maximum cube" vans. Under Mount Weld-On (Un/mt/wo) or Side Mount Weld-On (Si/mt/wo) The versatile cast weld-on hangers can be used for either under mount or side mount applications. Capacity The 9700 series suspension has a Gross Axle Weight Rating (G.A.W.R.) of 22,400 lbs when equipped with single leaf, two leaf, standard three leaf and seven leaf springs. Heavy duty three leaf and eight leaf springs raise the G.A.W.R. to 24,000 lbs. 2 241 HUTCHENS H9700 and CH9700 SUSPENSIONS Ordering a 9700 Series Suspension System The following options need to be considered when ordering a "Hutch" 9700 Series suspension: 1. The number of axles - on a tandem, standard axle spacing is 49" unless otherwise specified. 2. Choose the type of hanger. (See hanger types in this catalog.) Specify fabricated (H) or cast (CH).. Determine the mounting height you need. A mounting height chart is shown below. Mounting height depends on Suspension configuration - Overslung for standard range of mounting heights; Underslung for when lower mounting heights are required. Axle size - 5 inch round is considered standard. Spring Seat Height: Available in heights from /4" to 4-/4" in 1/2" increments. Spring Type. Consideration is given to number of leaves and arch, standard or heavy duty. The spring seat height and the spring determine the length of u-bolts required. 4. Choose u-bolt diameter - 7/8" is standard, /4" is optional. Rocker and Center Hanger Fastener Standard Huck Fastener (Shown) Optional 1-1/8" X 7" Capscrew and Nut Other Options: Optional No-Hop Attach Fitting Rear Axle Only Prevents axle "hop" when braking with empty trailer. 13 252 HUTCHENS H-900 SERIES SINGLE POINT SUSPENSIONS Application The 900 series suspensions are designed for heavy-duty and/or off-road applications. The 900 is a single point suspension connected to the trailer frame by a trunnion located at the center of the suspension. This makes it ideal for logging, heavy load hauling and dump operations. Capacity The 900 series suspensions are available in Gross Tandem Weight Ratings (GTWR) of 6,000, 42,000, 44,000, 50,000 and 60,000 lbs. Options Numerous mounting heights (Mtg./Ht. = The vertical distance from the centerline of the axle to the top of the trunnion hanger), axle and trunnion combinations are possible. These include overslung (OS, springs over axles) and underslung (US, springs under axles) axle units as well as overslung (springs over trunnion) and underslung (springs under trunnion) trunnion configurations. The 900 series suspension also includes options for 5", 5-/4", and 6" round axles, or 5" X 5" square axles. Several different axle centers are available. Standard spring centers for the 900 series suspensions is 8". Other spring centers can be furnished on request. Overslung Axles - Overslung Trunnion Standard trunnion hanger spacing is 22-1/8" for 8" spring centers. Trunnion centers of 20-1/8" can be specified while maintaining 8" spring centers. Trunnion bushings of either rubber or UHMW Polyethylene ("free oscillating") are available. Unless otherwise specified, trunnion bushings are assumed to be rubber. When installing your 900 series suspension, adequate vertical clearance must be provided for tires, springs and U-bolts. This is usually accomplished through the use of a mounting bracket or pedestal. How To Order Your 900 Series Single Point Suspension System 1. Determine which 900 series suspension will meet your weight requirements - 6,000#, 42,000#, 44,000#, 50,000#, or 60,000# GTWR (Gross Tandem Weight Rating). 2. Select a mounting height that corresponds to your particular situation. See the Axle Specifications and Mounting Heights Charts in this catalog.. Axle configuration - Overslung or Underslung 4.
