The control used to se lect en gine power by con trol ling MP. Mixture Provides a mechanical linkage to the fuel injector mixture control Control to control the size of the fuel feed aperture, and therefore the air/fuel mix ture. It is the pri mary method to shut the en gine down. CHT Gauge Cylinder head temperature indicator used to determine that engine op er at ing tem pera ture is within manu fac tur ers speci fi ca tions. Tachometer An instrument that indicates rotational speed of the engine. The speed is shown as pro pel ler revo lu tions per minute (RPM). Pro pel ler Gov er nor The de vice that regu lates RPM of the en gine/pro pel ler by in creas ing or de creas ing the pro pel ler pitch, through a pitch change mecha nism in the pro pel ler hub. ME TE ORO LOGI CAL TER MI NOL OGY AGL Above ground level. Density Altitude as determined by pressure altitude and existing ambient Altitude temperature. In standard atmosphere (ISA) density and pressure al ti tude are equal. For a given pres sure al ti tude, the higher the the tem pera ture, the higher the den sity al ti tude. Indicated The altitude actually read from an altimeter when, and only when Al ti tude baro met ric subscale ( Kolls man win dow) has been set to Sta tion Pres sure. The hori zon tal dis tance from the ref er ence da tum to the cen ter of grav ity (C.G.) of an item. The ac tual weight of the air plane and in cludes all op er at ing equip ment (in clud ing op tional equip ment) that has a fixed lo ca tion and is ac tu ally in stalled in the air craft. It in cludes the weight of un us able fuel and full oil. The point at which an air plane would bal ance if sus pended. Its dis tance from the ref er ence datum is found by di vid ing the to tal mo ment by the to tal weight of the air plane. ISSUED

The weight of chocks, blocks, stands, etc. used when weigh ing an air plane, and is in cluded in the scale read ings. Allow engine to warm up. OP ER AT ING THE EN GINE AT TOO HIGH AN RPM BE FORE REACH ING MINI MUM OIL TEM PERA TURES MAY CAUSE LOSS OF OIL PRES SURE. POWER LOSS - PRI MARY EN GINE IN DUC TION AIR SYS TEM BLOCK AGE Block age of the pri mary en gine in duc tion air sys tem may be ex pe ri enced as a re sult of fly ing in cloud or heavy snow with cold out side air tem pera tures (0 o C or below). At these tem pera tures, very small wa ter drop lets or solid ice crys tals in the air may enter the pri mary en gine in duc tion in let in cowl open ing and travel in side in let duct to the in duc tion air fil ter. Ice par ti cles or water d rop lets may col - lect and freeze on the air filter caus ing par tial or to tal block age of the pri mary en gine in duc tion sys - tem. If pri mary in duc tion air sys tem block age oc curs, the al ter nate en gine in duc tion air sys tem will auto - mati cally open, sup ply ing en gine with an al ter nate air source drawn from in side the cowl ing rather than through the air fil ter. The al ter nate air sys tem can also be manu ally opened at any time by pull - ing the con trol la beled AL TER NATE AIR. Auto matic or man ual ac ti va tion of the al ter nate in duc tion sys tem is dis played in the cockpit by the il lu mi na tion of the ALT AIR light in the main ann un cia tor panel. When op er at ing on the al ter nate air sys tem, avail able en gine power will be less for a given pro - pel ler RPM com pared to the pri mary in duc tion air sys tem. This is due to loss of ram ef fecta nd in duc - tion of warmer in let air. The fol low ing check list should be used if a par tial power loss due to pri mary in duc tion air sys tem block age is ex pe ri enced: Al ter nate Air Ver ify OPEN (an nun cia tor light ON) Mani fold Pres sure inches less than nor mal, due to warm in duc tion air NOTE The alternate air door should open automatically when primary induction system is restricted. If alternate air door has not opened (Annunciator light-off) it can be opened manually by pulling alternate air control.
