INTRODUCTION GENERAL INTRODUCTION This manual covers the Guardwire sensor termination and the installation of related accessories i.e. Termination Boxes (GWELT-4 and GWELT-FAC), Junction Boxes (GWJB-1 and GWJB-FAC), Gate Loop Kits (GWGLK-1/2/3) and Gate Bypass Switches (GWGBS-A/B/C/D). For details of fault finding and testing the sensor after termination refer to the relative sensor installation manual. The accessories all comprise of a watertight box with the appropriate number of glands and contain a PCB fitted with the appropriate number of five way terminal blocks. Each box is sealed to IP66 rating and includes an integral tamper switch operating in conjunction with the analyser monitoring circuitry. IMPORTANT To ensure satisfactory long term performance of the system, it is vital that only termination kits supplied by Geoquip Ltd. are used for terminating the sensor. Terminations are only to be fitted on completion of the sensor installation. 1.2 EQUIPMENT REQUIRED The following equipment list is recommended to ensure that installation engineer is fully equipped to carry out all Guardwire sensor terminations and accessory installations. 1. Stanley type craft knife or similar. 1

INTRODUCTION 1 2. Gas hot air gun. Use a hot air gun for all heatshrink operations specified. Do NOT use a naked flame to shrink any heatshrink components. 3. Small side cutters. 4. The termination kit provided with the euqipment. 5. Standard electrical screwdrivers 1.3 ATTACHMENT OF MOUNTING BRACKETS For ease of packing and installation some of the boxes are shipped partly assembled and need to be fully assembled prior to installation. This is done using the following method. 1. Remove the box lid. 2. Place the two T shaped mountings on the back on the box ensuring that they are correctly located with the pins fitted into the holes and the leg of the T pointing out from the side of the box. 3. Whilst holding the mountings in position place the box, mounting side down, on a flat surface. 4. Drop one of the four self tapping screws provided down each of the large threaded holes and screw them firmly into the mountings. Inserting the screws from the inside of the holes ensures that the mountings can not be removed without first removing the lid. 2

INTRODUCTION 1 5. Although it is not necessary to replace the lid prior to installation, is it important to ensure that when the lid is replaced the key adjacent to the threaded hole on the box corresponds to the slot on the lid. If fitting the box to a wall or other solid surface it may be preferable to dispense with the mountings and screw the boxes directly to the surface, again fixing the screws through the large threaded holes in the box. 3

GW400k SENSOR TERMINATION 2 2The termination GW400k SENSOR procedure TERMINATION described in this section applies to all the accessory equipment covered in this manual. Correct termination of the sensor with joints properly sealed to exclude moisture is a vital part of the installation. If moisture is allowed to penetrate the sensor, it is virtually impossible to remove, resulting in poor long term reliability. To ensure the best resistance to moisture penetration at terminations, Geoquip Ltd. provide adhesive coated heatshrink sleeving for all sensor terminations. Refer to Figure 1 when reading these instructions. 1. Carefully cut the jacket all the way round 100mm (4") from the end and then put a longitudinal slit to the end. Strip back the outer jacket of the sensor to expose the drain wire and the underlying aluminium foil screen. It is important not to nick or damage the drain wire or the underlying aluminium screen. 2. Cut off 125mm (5") of Green/Yellow earth wire from the termination kit provided and strip the insulation 25mm (1") back from one end. Twist and solder the stripped end of the earth wire to the drain wire so that the insulation on the earth wire is snug against the point at which the drain wire emerges from the sheath. Cut off excess wire at the twist to expose 12mm (1/2") of exposed twisted wires. Fold this twist back so it lies along the outer sheath. 4

GW400k SENSOR TERMINATION 2 1 Strip back outer sheath 2 Solder tail to drain wire 100mm Yellow/green 3 Remove aluminium screen 4 Insulate joint and end of screen 40mm 5 Remove clear tape layer 5 Remove magnetic strips Yellow/green Black 6 Sleeve loose conductors Yellow Red Blue 7 Fix overlapping strain relief sleeve Figure 1 3. Carefully untwist the aluminium foil screen from the sensor without disturbing the underlying layer of clear Mylar tape. 5

GW400k SENSOR TERMINATION 2 The lie of tape will determine whether it will be easier to unwind the tape from the cut end or from the point where the sheath was cut back to. If it is necessary to unwind the tape from the sheath end, a small pair of sidecutters will prove invaluable in unpicking the first part. Ensure that the foil tape is removed cleanly at the sheath/core junction. 4. Slide the 40mm length (1.5") of black heat shrink over the junction of the sheath and core. 20mm of sleeving must cover the sheath and the earth wire connection while the remainder covers the core. Apply heat from a hot air gun to shrink the sleeving round the core and sheath. Visually inspect the finished shrink to verify that there is a good seal indicated by a ring of melted adhesive at the ends of the sleeving. 5. Cut through the clear Mylar tape at the junction of the heat shrink sleeving and the core and peel the Mylar tape off the core. It may be easier to unwrap from the inner end rather than the cut end. Break off the semicircular magnetic strips to expose the inner conductors. 6. Identify the bare wire which lies immediately next to the black insulated wire and slide on a piece of red heatshrink sleeving over it. Ensure that the end of the sleeving is pushed down to where the bare wire emerges from the core. 6

GW400k SENSOR TERMINATION 2 Repeat this step with the other bare wire using a piece of blue heatshrink sleeving. 7. Slide on the 25mm (1") length of black heat shrink sleeving until the back edge is positioned at the shoulder of the sheath and core. The core should be visible below the first black heatshrink sleeve. Apply heat from the hot air gun to shrink the sleeving down on to the core so that the sleeve grips the wires and their insulated sleeves. 8. Visually inspect the second sleeve to verify that the red and blue insulated sleeves are gripped by the outer heatshrink sleeving and that a melted ring of adhesive is present at both ends of the sleeve. 9. Strip off 12mm (1/2") of the insulation on all of the wires to facilitate connection to the termination blocks. This completes the termination of the sensor at the analyser end. 7

GWELT TERMINATION BOX 3 3Only a GWELTERMINATION termination kit BOX should be used for end of line terminations. The use of the box and PCB enables easy access to the end of line termination for maintenance, testing and fault finding. The termination is as follows: 1. Terminate the end of the sensor as described in Section Loosen the gland on the box and pass the sensor end into the box until sufficient length is available on the tails to be wired into the terminal blocks. Tighten the gland by hand ensuring the rubber sealing ring grips the sensor jacket and not the heatshrink sleeves. 3. Position the box just above the line of the sensor and fix the box to the protected fabric using the mounting kit provided. Do not over tighten the screws on the mounting bars as in extreme circumstances this can cause distortion of the weatherproof seal arrangement. 4. Connect the sensor tails to the terminal blocks ensuring that the tail colours match the screen printing. See Figure Replace the box lid, taking care not to overtighten the lid screws and verify by listening that the tamper switch operates as the lid is screwed down. This completes the end of line termination. 8

GWJB JUNCTION BOX COPING GWJB JUNCTION WITH SENSOR BOX DAMAGE In the event that damage, whether accidental or intentional, is inflicted on the sensor, the damaged section must be replaced with a new short section. This should be inserted using GWJB junction boxes at either end to ensure proper connections. Figure 3 shows the arrangement of the damaged sensor replaced with a new section. If sensor damage has occurred, resulting in exposure of the inner conductors of the sensor to the effects of rain or moisture for a period exceeding a few days, it is advisable to cut out a section of sensor at least 5m on either side of the damage to eliminate the effects of moisture penetration due to capillary action. The new section of sensor can be prepared off site using the following method and moved into place when completed. 1. Terminate the ends of a suitable length of sensor as described in Section Loosen the glands on the junction boxes and pass the sensor end into the box so sufficient length is available on the tails to be wired into the terminal blocks. Ensure that the sensor is passed through the correct gland to correspond to the position of the terminal block, i.e. through the left gland to connect to the left terminal block at the right hand end of the sensor and vice versa at the left end. Tighten the glands by hand so that the rubber 10

GWJB JUNCTION BOX 4 New Sensor Section GWJB-1 Figure 3 sealing ring grips the sensor jacket and not the heatshrink sleeves. 3. Connect the sensor tails to the terminal blocks ensuring that the sensor tail colours match the screen printing on the PCB. 11

GWJB JUNCTION BOX 4 4. Cut off the damaged section of sensor from the fence and terminate the ends of the remaining sensor in the same manner as above. To ensure that no moisture enters the open sensor ends, this step should only be carried out immediately prior to fixing the new section. 5. Position the boxes just above the line of the sensor to allow rain water to run away from the glands and fix to the protected surface using the mounting kit provided. Ensure that the new section of sensor is at the same height as the original and is of equal tension. Do not over tighten the screws on the mounting bars as in extreme circumstances this can cause distortion of the weatherproof seal arrangement. 6. Connect the tails of the fence mounted sensor to the junction box terminal blocks, ensuring that the sensor tail colours match the screen printing on the PCB. 7. Replace the box lids, taking care not to over tighten the lid screws and verify that the tamper switch in each box operates by listening for the click of the switch action as the lid is screwed down. Retest the entire zone to ensure that the sensor detects simulated impact and sustained attacks. 4.2 NON-SENSITIVE SECTIONS In many cases, there will be areas within a Guardwire zone where, for various reasons, it is not necessary or 12

GWJB JUNCTION BOX 4 desirable to provide active sensor coverage. For instance, if, a zone is split by a building or other obstruction, a section of dead cable can be inserted in the zone at this point to be reconnected to normal sensor at the other side of the obstruction. The junction between the sensor and the dead cable is made within a GWJB weatherproof junction box. Red Black Yel/Grn Yellow Blue Black Red Drain Green White GW400k Sensor Dead Cable Figure 4 13

GWJB JUNCTION BOX 4 The GQFC-2 dead cable comprises two twisted pairs of wires, each with individual foil screens and a drain wire. The cable has a tough black polythene outer sheath making it weather resistant and fully suitable for outdoor use. This cable is not suitable for direct burial. For indoor installations GQFC-1 dead cable should be used. This identical to the GQFC-2 with the exception that it does not have the weatherproof outer sheath. Provided that the cables are terminated correctly and moisture is excluded from the joint, almost any number of such sections can be inserted in a zone. It is important to ensure that the interconnection of the sensor and the dead cable conforms to the table below. GW400k Sensor Conductors Dead Cable Conductors Red Wire to Red Wire Black Wire to Green Wire Green/Yellow Wire to Drain Wire Yellow wire to Black Wire Blue Wire to White Wire Adhere to this schedule at all times when jointing sensor to dead cable. Failure to comply with this will compromise the security of the system. See Figure 4. 14

GWGLK GATE LOOP KIT 5 5MostGWGLK sites have GATE gatesloop of onekit form or another which interrupt the sensor zone and as such need to be protected. The gap between fence and gate is bridged using a GWGLK-1/2 Gate Loop Kit for swing gates or a GWGLK-3 for sliding gates. The kit comprises of two of the boxes shown in Figure connected by a prewired flexible coiled cable which carries the sensor signal to and from the gate. This, non sensitive, cable is designed to withstand the flexing caused by the gate opening and closing. The box is fitted with two glands, the use of which is dependent on the gate type and the positioning of the box. Refer to the sensor installation manual QA162 for further details. 1. Terminate the ends of the sensor as described in Section Loosen the glands on the boxes and pass the sensor end into the box so sufficient length is available on the tails to be wired into the terminal blocks. Ensure that the sensor is passed through the correct gland to correspond to the position of the terminal block, i.e. through the left gland to connect to the left terminal block at the left hand side of the gate and vice versa at the right hand side. Tighten the glands by hand so that the rubber sealing ring grips the sensor jacket and not the heatshrink sleeves. 3. Position the boxes just above the line of the sensor to allow rain water to run away from the sensor 15

GWGLK GATE LOOP KIT 5 4. Connect the sensor tails to the terminal blocks ensuring that the sensor tail colours match the screen printing on the PCB. When connecting the cable tails of the GQFC-2 ensure that the colours correspond to those shown in the table on page Replace the box lids, taking care not to over tighten the lid screws and verify that the tamper switch in each box operates by listening for the click of the switch action as the lid is screwed down. 17

GWGBS GATE BYPASS SWITCHES 6 6The GWGBS Gate GATE Bypass BYPASS Switches SWITCHES provide the facility to disable the sensor in the area of a gate to allow the gate to be operated without generating an alarm. They are available in two versions, either the GWGBS-A/C which is a locally key operated switch or the GWGBS- B/D which is remote relay operated switch powered by 12V dc signal. Refer to the sensor installation manual QA162 for further details. 1. Terminate the ends of the sensor as described in Section Loosen the glands on the box and pass the sensor and feeder cable ends into the box so sufficient length is available on the tails to be wired into the terminal blocks. Refer to Figures 6 and 7 to determine which terminals, i.e. the small rectangles on the PCBs when the cables end, require to be configured with either GW400k sensor or GQFC-2 feeder cable. Figure 6 shows the Gate Bypass Switch on a single leaf or sliding gate and Figure 7 shows it on a double leaf or sliding gate. In both figures the sensor is the thick solid line and the feeder cable is the thick chain dotted line. Tighten the glands by hand so that the rubber sealing ring grips the sensor jacket and not the heatshrink sleeves. 3. Position the boxes just above the line of the sensor to allow rain water to run away from the glands and fix to the fence using the mounting kit provided. Do not over tighten the screws on the mounting bars 18

FLEXI ARMOURED CONDUIT - GW400kFAC COPING FLEXI ARMOURED WITH GW400kFAC CONDUIT GLANDED - GW400kFAC BOXES Accessory boxes fitted with glands for Flexi Armoured Conduit, GW400kFAC, have to be terminated in a different order to that described previously. The sensor termination must be done after the sensor has been passed through the gland and into the box since the sensor will not pass through the gland once it has been terminated. For boxes fitted with these glands the following procedure should be used. 1. Ensure that 75mm (3") of the sensor protrudes from the end of the flexible conduit when the conduit is pulled tight. 2. Remove the retaining nut and put the white retaining ring to one side. Slip the nut onto the conduit with the screw thread facing towards the end of the sensor. 3. Compress the flexible conduit back a further 150mm (6") and secure with tie-wrap. 4. Push the sensor through the gland whilst easing it over the other side of the box until the tie-wrap is against the gland. 5. Terminate the end of the sensor as described in Section 2. Whilst terminating the sensor ensure that the box is not damaged by the heat from the heat gun. 22

FLEXI ARMOURED CONDUIT - GW400kFAC 7 6. Remove the tie-wrap that is restraining the conduit. 7. Push the terminated sensor back into the conduit, whilst allowing the conduit to expand, until the heat-shrink sleeves are level with the mouth of the gland. 8. Place the white retaining ring 15 mm (3/4") from the end of the conduit and push the conduit end into the gland. 9. Tighten up the retaining nut. 10.Continue with the installation of the accessory as described previously in the appropriate section. 23
