1 Subaru Legacy GT & Outback XT Power Filter Installation Instructions PN# S1B03G42A001T You are now the proud owner of a highly tested and proven AVOTurboworld Power Air intake kit. While you have made a wise choice in selecting this suspension part, below we have some suggestions and procedures for you to follow to ensure a successful installation. The AVO Power Air intake kit is modular and can either be fitted as a complete kit, or as individual parts. The following instructions are a step-by-step guide for a complete installation you can skip to the relevant section if you are only installing part of the kit. Contact AVO Turboworld or selling agent if any parts are missing. b) Make sure that all parts are in good condition and have not been damaged during shipping etc. c) Take time to make sure you can identify the individual parts supplied to the relevant sections in the attached fitting inst Before grabbing a bunch of spanners and attacking your car take a moment to 2

3 STOP AND THINK Read these supplied installation instructions thoroughly from start to finish do you understand all of the mechanical operations required? Are you sure that you can adequately complete all of the mechanical operations required? Do you understand all of the terminology used in this installation manual? Your installation skills will have a big effect on wether or not your new AVO Turboworld Part will perform to its full potential and give years of trouble free operation, without seriously damaging either your engine or your wallet. Prior to installation commencing, make sure that your car is in excellent mechanical condition and that there are no outstanding faults or problems. This part has been designed to work only with a car that is in good state of repair. Pre-existing problems or faults can result in improper operation and/or failure of your engine. This is your responsibility to ensure. No matter how carefully we design our Parts, this is one area we have no control over and cannot be held responsible. Always use the highest grade of fuel available in your area. This is essential for correct operation of your car and your new Upgrade parts. Failure to use high-octane fuel can result in engine damage. Pre-installation Preparations 1) Select a proper location for installation. You will need a flat, hard surface to work on your car safely. 2) Make sure that the engine has cooled completely before starting work. Installation Step 1 Remove cold air intake guide to the airbox. Remove two plastic bolt clips on the front with Philips head screwdriver by pushing down and unscrewing counter clockwise. Pull cold air intake guide forward and up gently. Step 2 Remove accessory cover behind air intake box. Step 3 Unclip back half of the airbox (see photos). It is held on via two clips on top only. Loosen the clamp holding on the rubber air intake pipe. 3

4 Step 4 Remove rear half of the airbox. You will need to pull the hoses off the holder on the side of the airbox, and be careful not to yank on the wiring to the air flow meter. Step 5 Unclip air flow meter harness from the airbox. Step 6 Remove the stock air filter by pulling out towards the back of the car. Step 7 Remove the front half of the air box by unbolting the two 10mm bolts on the bottom and third bolt. Pull the front half of the airbox up gently. There is an air resonator attached to this box that resides in the fender well of the car that will come up with the front half of the air box. Step 8 Loosen clamp on the engine side of rubber intake hose. Remove rubber intake hose. Step 9 Those original parts will no longer be needed, except for the plastic clips for cold air intake front. Step 10 Remove the rubber isolator and nut from the Stock air box. Bend tab flat with a pliers. Step 11 Fit the factory rubber isolator to the frame rail. You will mount the power filter assembly to this via the supplied bracket. Use the nut you removed from the stock air box. 4

5 Step 12 Fit the factory air flow meter to the AVO power filter MAF housing. Use the supplied screws. Step 13 Bolt the supplied mounting bracket to the MAF housing. Use the supplied bolt and washer. Step 14 The assembly Should look like this before it is installed to the car. Step 15 Bolt the MAF housing down to rubber bushing mount. Step 16 Fit the AVO assembly to the inlet pipe. Tighten the clamps. 5

6 Step 17 This is what it should look like assembled in the car. Step 18 Clip air flow meter wiring harness onto the air flow meter. Step 19 Start your engine and check idle speed. If you experience erratic idle: 1. Check air flow meter wires. 2. Check if the air flow meter is tightened down completely. 3. Check the clamps on the silicone pipes. Note: After completing remove your tools, double check for leaks and any loose fittings. Correct if necessary. In order to maintain the reliability of your AVOTurboworld upgrade part, you should inspect all components during the recommended engine servicing schedules; and rectify or replace any damaged components as necessary. Servicing Your Power Filter Element An AVO Turboworld Power filter requires regular servicing. At 10,000 mile intervals (5,000 miles for dusty/sandy or other extreme operating conditions) remove your power filter element for servicing using the following procedure. Your Powerfilter can be cleaned using K+N airfilter service solvent, or by soaking it in warm, soapy water. Do not use gasoline or other harsh cleaning solvents. Do not use compressed air to dry filter, as this will damage the cotton filtration media. Let it air dry slowly. At the same time as cleaning your power filter, carefully inspect the filter for signs of damage to the cotton weave or the filter body. Replace if required. NOTE!
