Revised ventilated backing plates are now available to address this condition. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the condition. 2. Based on rotor thickness measurement, determine if enough disc material is present to support machining. If there is not enough material, replace the rotors. Front Rotor Minimum Thickness: 29 mm (1.14 in.) NOTE If an on-car brake lathe is not available, replace the front rotors.

5 T-SB August 8, 2012 Page 5 of Replace the RH and LH disc brake dust covers. A. Loosen the clip and remove the speed sensor wire. Figure 1. NOTICE Make sure there is NO damage to the wire after it has been removed from the retention clip. B. Loosen and remove the bolts and disconnect the brake tube bracket from the steering knuckle. Figure 2.

6 T-SB August 8, 2012 Page 6 of 14 C. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the disc brake caliper from the steering knuckle. NOTICE Support the disc brake caliper from the suspension or frame. Do NOT disconnect the flexible hose from the disc brake caliper. Do NOT twist or bend the flexible hose. Figure 3. Figure 4.

NOTE If there is any damage or contamination to the mounting surfaces, address as needed before proceeding. Figure 15. Using an off-car brake lathe is not recommended. 5. If reusing the front rotors, install the on-car brake lathe and machine rotors to proper specification. NOTE Make sure the rotors are clean and contaminant free using a Toyota approved brake cleaner. A. After machining rotors, use a dial indicator to measure disc runout 10 mm (0.394 in.) from the outer edge of the disc. B. If unable to machine rotors to within specified runout range or rotors are below minimum thickness after machining, replace the front rotors. Maximum Disc Runout: 0.05 mm ( in.) Front Rotor Minimum Thickness: 29 mm (1.14 in.)

14 T-SB August 8, 2012 Page 14 of If replacing the front rotors, install NEW rotors and temporarily install lug nuts on rotors using proper torque value and sequence. Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 10 mm (0.394 in.) from the outer edge of the disc. If new rotors are above maximum disc runout, phase match the rotor to the hub assembly and recheck runout. Continue rotating rotor on hub and checking runout until measurement is below maximum disc runout specification. NOTE Regardless of whether the rotors are machined using the on-car brake lathe OR new rotors are installed, make sure the rotors are clean and contaminant free using a Toyota approved brake cleaner. 7. Install the front wheel and torque to specification using the correct tightening sequence. Torque: Steel Wheel: 209 N*m (2,131 kgf*cm, 154 ft*lbf) Torque: Alloy Wheel: 131 N*m (1,336 kgf*cm, 97 ft*lbf) NOTE Do NOT use an impact gun to tighten the lug nuts, use a torque wrench and follow the correct sequence to tighten the wheels.
