N 109K-43 DATE September 21, 2005 REV. xx xx Compliance with this bulletin is: SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF THE CRUSHABLE BUMPER ASSEMBLY, BREEZE-EASTERN P/N BL (SERIES), WITH THE NEW CRUSHABLE BUMPER ASSEMBLY, BREEZE-EASTERN P/N BL , OF THE RESCUE HOIST, AGUSTA P/N ALL DASHES NUMBERS (BREEZE-EASTERN P/N BL SERIES). REASON: Provide the necessary instructions to replace the subject crushable bumper assembly. HELICOPTERS AFFECTED: All Agusta rescue hoists P/N all dash numbers (Breeze- Eastern P/N BL series) installed on the Agusta A109K2 helicopters and/or stored as spare parts, that install the crushable bumper assembly Breeze-Eastern P/N BL series. COMPLIANCE: Within and not later than March 31, DESCRIPTION: This Bollettino provides instructions for replacement of the crushable bumper assembly P/N BL (series) with new crushable bumper assembly P/N BL installed on rescue hoist Agusta P/N all dashes numbers (Breeze-Eastern P/N BL series). Installation of the new crushable bumper assembly P/N BL in accordance with this Bollettino, will terminate and eliminate the operational restrictions levied in accordance with B.T. n 109K-34 dated August 22, Page 1 of 7

2 B.T. 109K-43 REQUIRED MANPOWER: Compliance with this Bollettino requires an estimated 1 (one) manpower hour to remove and replace the crushable bumper assembly. WARRANTY: Refer to Breeze-Eastern Alert Service Bulletin n ASB BL A25-01 Rev. D. REQUIRED MATERIALS: The following materials are required for compliance with this Bollettino: SPECIAL TOOLS: N.A. D (attached). PUBLICATIONS AFFECTED: A109K2 Maintenance Manual. COMPLIANCE INSTRUCTIONS: (See figure 1-5) 1. Prepare the helicopter on ground for a safe maintenance, disconnect any power source. 2. Use the hand held pendant to extend cable from hoist as required to place the hook assembly on bench. 3. Remove the hook assembly from the rescue hoist cable as follows. (ref. figure 1) Separate bumper assembly (1) from sleeve (2) and slide bumper assembly along cable assembly toward drum Remove and discard cotter pins (3). Remove locking screws (4) from hook assembly.

3 B.T. 109K Loosen bushing nut (5) while holding body (6) Back bushing nut (5) out completely, and remove hook assembly with attached parts Slide, bushing nut (5) and sleeve (2) along cable assembly. Remove ring (8) from clamp, and remove two halves of clamp (7) from around cable assembly Remove bushing nut (5) and sleeve (2) from cable assembly Remove rubber bumper (9) from bottom half of hook assembly. 4. Slide bumper assembly off cable. 5. Using a screwdriver remove the spring to the bumper assembly (ref. figure 2). 6. Retain spring for new bumper assembly installation and scrap bumper assembly P/N BL NOTE The bumper assembly removed from service in accordance with this Bollettino must be returned to Breeze Eastern accompanied by documents Scrap Certificate and Replacement Request Form attached to Breeze Eastern ASB BL A25-01 Rev. D. 7. Place spring previously removed under two crimps on new bumper assembly P/N BL Using a screwdriver snap the spring in place under the two remaining crimps. (ref. figure 2). 8. Ensure crimps are secure at the four crimped position (ref figure 2). NOTE Lubricate the top grommet of the bumper assembly with a small amount of soapy water, or equivalent, to get the ball end of the wire rope cable through the grommet hole (ref figure 3). 9. Feed the ball end of the wire rope cable through the grommet and crushable bumper. Continue feeding the cable through the spring. See figure 4. Page 3 of 7

4 B.T. 109K Install the hook assembly on cable assembly as follows (ref. figure1) Slide bushing nut (5) and sleeve (2) onto cable assembly Install two sections of clamp (7) around ball end of cable and install ring (8) to secure clamp (7) Slide sleeve (2) over two sections of clamp (7) Slide bushing nut (5) over sleeve (2) Install rubber bumper (9) onto body (6) Assemble hook assembly with attached parts to cable assembly by screwing bushing nut (5) into the body (6). Back off nut (5) to line up tapped holes with next nearest slots in body (6) Install locking screws (4) and cotter pins P/N MS or MS (3). NOTA Locking screws (4) may be backed off up to ¼ turn to allow insertion of cotter pins (3). 11. Using the hand held pendant reel cable back to full-in position. 12. Accomplish the following test: Operate hoist to reel out cable until the hook can be connected to a weight of 272 Kg. (600 lb) Mount load on hook and slowly reel cable in until the weight is lifted off the ground Once weight is off the ground, lower weight back to the ground Remove weight and operate hoist to the full in position. 13. Return the helicopter to a flight ready condition. CAUTION Accomplish a dimensional check of the crushable bumper assembly P/N BL in accordance with figure Record compliance with this Bollettino in the helicopter log book. Page 4 of 7
