1 Heated Bed Installation Instructions Overview The glass panel is heated by way of a heater element which is bonded to the glass panel and controlled by a digital temperature controller. The temperature controller has been programmed and calibrated before shipping to insure ease of installation and proper operation. To prevent overheating a thermal switch has been installed which will cut power to the heating element if the temperature exceeds 145c. The switch will reset itself when the temperature drops below 144c. When a print finishes the heater will turn off by way of a micro switch (Bed Switch) which will detect the low position of the bed. Please Note the glass panel used on this device is not regular glass, it has been custom formulated to withstand the high temperature and long duration that these printers require. If the panel becomes damaged please contact us for a replacement. 2 Installation Please take your time and install carefully to insure trouble free operation. Installation should take no more than 30 minutes so no need to rush. Tools Needed 3mm Hex Driver 8mm Wrench Wire Cutters Hardware Needed 3 Screws (Reuse original ) 3 Nuts (Reuse original) 2 Springs (Reuse original) (No additional hardware is needed)

3 Step 1 Remove the original bed, screws, springs and washers. Step 2 Insert the heated bed through the front of the printer at an angle and gently place in position temporarily. Step 3 Remove the liner on the double sided tape on the control box and affix the control box to the printer as shown Step 4 Raise the bed to a position approximately 2 (5cm) below the extruder nozzle.

4 Step 5 On the front support install the screw from the bottom up as shown. Use you index finger as a gauge to determine the screw length. Note There is plastic mounting block on the underside of the bed which will accept the threaded end of this screw. The plastic block is not threaded to allow the screw to rotate freely to allow leveling of the bed. 5 Step 7 Using the included wire ties and wire tie mount clips secure the bed harness and power cord as shown. Note The bottom of the wire tie mount lines up with the lower extruder carriage belt

6 Step 8 (Installing the included Z Height sensor, this kit is required for the bed to be detected) Feed a piece of discarded filament through the wire chain as shown Step 9 Using tape join the sensor harness to the filament Step 10 Pull the filament back through the wire chain

7 Step 11 Separate the sensor harness from the filament and route the sensor to the right hand support. Insert the sensor into the provided bracket and snap the bracket onto the post as shown. Step 12 Secure the wire harness with 2 of the included wire ties. Step 13 Install the magnet to the bearing block as shown. The position of the magnet is not critical as long as it is somewhat below the sensor.

8 Step 14 Disconnect the original sensor and connect the new sensor Original sensor connector Picture shows new sensor connected to circuit board

9 Step 15 Remove the backing on the double sided tape and affix the Bed Switch as shown below. Note Adjustment will be made in the next step Step 16 Print a small part and allow the bed to lower when the print completes. When the bed reaches its lower home position you should hear a click from the Bed Switch confirming that the metal lever is adjusted correctly. If you do not hear a click, press down gently on the metal lever. If a click is heard, gently bend the lever up slightly. Support the base of the lever as shown to prevent breaking the switch.

10 Step 17 Level the print bed per the manufacturers instructions Step 18 Adjust the Z Height per the manufacturers instructions. Step 19 Enjoy your 3D Printer s new capabilities! 11 Operation Step 1 Turn on the printer and raise the bed enough to deactivate the Bed Switch which will allow the heater to turn on. (Use the manual move function on the printer control panel) Step 2 Adjust the bed temperature to the desired setting using the buttons. Start with these settings ABS 110c PLA 70c Step 3 Load the print file in the printer as usual and run the print. Step 4 When the print job is finished the Bed Switch will sense the bed at the low position and turn the heater and accessory (if connected) off. Raft Information Although a part can be printed directly on the glass panel it is recommended that blue painters tape is used to enhance the bond to the glass. ABS Part No Raft Due to the durable and smooth surface of the glass panel, a raft is not needed for most parts ABS Raft An ABS raft can be used and the raft can be separated from the part with some effort due to the different extruder temperatures for the raft and the first part layer. PLA Raft Using a PLA Raft isn t recommended since the heater temperature will need to be reduced to 70c which will provide little benefit to the ABS part. PLA Part No Raft In most cases the heater isn t required for PLA but if you feel the part geometry is susceptible to warping, use the heater and reduce the temperature to 70c. ABS Raft PLA has low shrink/warping but if you feel the part geometry is susceptible to warping, use the heater and reduce the temperature to 70c which will enhance the bond of the ABS to the bed and control the warping.
