1 Page 1 Installation Manual TWM Performance Short Shift Kit Nissan Altima Infiniti G Nissan Sentra- 200SX Nissan NX Nissan Stanza Nissan Maxima It is preferable to park on a flat surface, as you may have to engage and disengage the hand brake and shift from gears to neutral. If you cannot do so and are obliged to install the short shifter on a slightly inclined surface, place wooden blocks in front or behind the wheels to prevent the car from moving while you re working. Estimated Installation Time: 120 minutes Tools required: - Flat head screw driver (large and small) - Philips head screw driver - Needle nose pliers - Ratchet - 8 mm socket - 10 mm socket - 12 mm socket - 7/16 socket - All purpose grease - WD-40 or any rust-remover product

3 Page 3 1. Remove shift knob by rotating it counter-clockwise. Some Nissan shift knobs are glued and may be difficult to unscrew. In this case, use a leather piece of fabric and wrap it around the knob. Use a Cobra-style wrench to unscrew it from the shaft. When this is done, shift into 5th gear. 2. In most models, the plastic console surrounding the shifter can be unclipped. Hold the rear part of the console by the opening of the shift boot and pull up on it.

4 Page 4 3. Steps 3, 4 and 5 are not necessary for the shifter installation, but can make the process easier, by having more space to work. First, remove the 2 screws at the front of the console. 4. In most models, there should be 2 other screws at the rear of the console. For this step, it is easier to push the front seats forward to access and remove these screws.

5 Page 5 5. The console is now ready to be removed. Lift the front of the console to be able to disconnect plugs (if you have heated seats). If you have leather boot partially covering your handbrake lever, it may be necessary to unsnap it (from below). 6. The car is now ready to be lifted. If you work with a jack, be sure to use the jack only to raise the car. Use jack stands under factory jack points or use ramps, while making sure the hand brake is pulled all the way up. The car should be raised by about 15 inches.

6 Page 6 7. Begin by removing the front heat shield, just after the front cross member using an 8 mm socket and a ratchet. A good tip to avoid breaking bolts during this step is to unscrew it for a turn, and screw it back in for half a turn. This is done to avoid potential rust to build up in the threads and making the removal impossible without breaking the bolts. Use of WD-40 may also be necessary to facilitate removal of these bolts. 8. Once all the bolts securing the heat shield to the floor pan are removed, unclip any wires that may be attached to the heat shield with needle nose pliers. 9. The installation of the TWM shifter is easier if you free the exhaust system from its rubber hangers, using a large flat head screw driver.

7 Page To remove the heat shield, move it forward and rotate it around the exhaust pipe. It may be necessary to bend it a little bit at some point in order to clear the floor pan or the exhaust pipe. 11. Now remove the lower pivot bolt. It s a shoulder bolt linking the shifter and the shift fork together. Use a short 12 mm socket and a 14 mm wrench or socket. The use of vice grips may be needed if the passenger side head bolt is rusted. After removal of the nut, gently tap on the bolt to get it out. 12. Using a 12 mm socket and a 3 extension, remove the 2 nuts located on each side of the shifter. It s easier to remove these nuts if you shift in 5th gear to remove the nut toward the front of the car and shift in 2 nd gear to remove the nut toward the rear of the car.

8 Page Get back in the car and pull the shift assembly out of the rubber boot. 14. Pull up on the metal cup and put it in a safe place.

9 Page On some models, the nylon cups are held by snap rings. Use safety glasses for this step. Using a small flat head screw driver or needle nose pliers, take the rings out. There s one on top and one at the bottom. Remove the cups and put them aside in a safe place. 16. Slide the smaller rubber boot over the stock shifter main ball and re-insert it on the TWM shifter. Applying grease to the base of the TWM shifter will make this step easier. Grease the main pivot ball of the TWM shifter and re-install the nylon cup which you removed from the stock shifter in the previous step.

10 Page Re-install the stock 12 mm nuts to secure the metal cup down. This step may require 2 people, one pushing down on the cap, in the car, and one installing the nuts from below. 18. Take the 2 provided steel bushings and place them on each side of the shift fork. The bigger one goes on the passenger side. Please note that the shoulders enter into the shift fork holes and they can be held in place on the shift fork by greasing them generously. **See image to the left and on the next page for hardware installation order in the car. 19. Insert the base of the shifter between the legs of the shift fork and bushings. It may be slightly difficult to insert the shifter between the bushings, however once centred it can be easily adjusted **The correct order for hardware installation is pictured in the next step.

11 Page Slide the provided bolt, with the proper washer stacking and secure it using a 7/16 wrench and a 7/16 socket and ratchet. Re-install the heat shield using the provided aluminium heat shield spacers and 6mm bolts and 6mm washers or ¼ washers if the holes in the heat shield are too large for the smaller 6mm washers. The spacer goes between the floor pan and the heat shield. On some models with studs instead of bolts, the heat shield spacers can not be used. The heat shield must be modified in these cars to allow clearance for the longer base of the TWM shifter as described in step # If there is not enough clearance under the heatshield, you may have to bend the heatshield so that the shift fork doesn t rub on the heatshield, using a rubber hammer. To prevent too much distortion of heatshield while doing this, place your feet lightly where the heatshield bolts to the floor pan. It will also be easier to adjust like this. Ensure that the shifter does not rub the heat shield by shifting through the gears. Once satisfied, secure the heat shield.
