1 Title: TIRE PRESSURE SENSING TRANSMITTER ACTIVATION PROCEDURE Models: '06 Tacoma Introduction A tire pressure sensing transmitter is built into each tire valve. The measured tire pressure data is transmitted through a Tire Pressure Warning System antenna to the Tire Pressure Warning System receiver. The tire pressure sensing transmitter used for the Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) on 2006 model year Tacoma vehicles needs to be activated during Pre-Delivery Service (PDS). Applicable Vehicles ^ 2006 model year Tacoma vehicles. Reference Information NOTE: ^ After all the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated, the flashing Tire Pressure Warning Light goes OFF. ^ The Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) shown may be stored in the system until the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated. ^ The codes will automatically clear when the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated. 1/5

3 1. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and check that the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks. 2. Press the valve core to reduce the tire inflation pressure rapidly by 6 psi (0.4 kgf/cm sq, 40 kpa) or more within 30 seconds. If the tire inflation pressure is NOT reduced by 6 psi (0.4 kgf/cm sq, 40 kpa) or more within 30 seconds, the tire pressure sensing transmitters will NOT be activated. This operation is required for the system to be activated and must be performed for each tire (including the spare tire), one at a time. Check that the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light goes OFF after all the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated. NOTE: After all tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated, the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light will come on whenever the tire pressure in any of the tires falls below psi ( kgf/cm sq, kpa). 3/5

4 3. Adjust all tires (including spare tire) to the standard inflation pressure as indicated on the tire and loading information label on the vehicle. 4. Remove the ID number label attached to the wheel and discard. 4/5

5 5. Press and hold the Tire Pressure Warning "SET" Switch until the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks 3 times. Then release and wait 2-3 minutes with the ignition in the "ON" position before continuing to step Change the mode to test mode using the Diagnostic Tester and check that 5 or 6 test DTCs have been stored. ^The test DTCs will NOT be indicated until the system initialization is complete. After the initialization has been completed successfully, the test DTCs are indicated. ^If the test DTCs are NOT indicated after several minutes have elapsed, rotate all the tires (including the spare tire) 900 to 2700 degrees. Wait for several minutes and then repeat step 6. NOTE: ^Do NOT turn the ignition switch "OFF" until step 6 is finished. ^If the initialization fails, refer to the Repair Manual. It is possible that different tires (tire pressure warning valve and transmitters) from another vehicle have been fitted and the transmitter IDs do NOT match. The following operations can be used instead of step 6: Turn the ignition switch from "OFF" to "ON." Monitor the tire pressure values of all the wheels (5 wheels) using the Diagnostic Tester. If the tire pressure values cannot be monitored, the initialization has failed. It typically takes 2 to 3 minutes to complete the initialization. 5/5
