Task- and equipment-specific warnings, cautions, and instructions are included in equipment documentation where appropriate. Make sure all equipment documentation, including these instructions, is accessible to persons operating or servicing equipment. Qualified Personnel Equipment owners are responsible for making sure that Nordson equipment is installed, operated, and serviced by qualified personnel. Qualified personnel are those employees or contractors who are trained to safely perform their assigned tasks. They are familiar with all relevant safety rules and regulations and are physically capable of performing their assigned tasks. Intended Use Use of Nordson equipment in ways other than those described in the documentation supplied with the equipment may result in injury to persons or damage to property. ome examples of unintended use of equipment include using incompatible materials making unauthorized modifications removing or bypassing safety guards or interlocks using incompatible or damaged parts using unapproved auxiliary equipment operating equipment in excess of maximum ratings Regulations and Approvals Make sure all equipment is rated and approved for the environment in which it is used. Any approvals obtained for Nordson equipment will be voided if instructions for installation, operation, and service are not followed. Personal afety To prevent injury follow these instructions. Do not operate or service equipment unless you are qualified. Do not operate equipment unless safety guards, doors, or covers are intact and automatic interlocks are operating properly. Do not bypass or disarm any safety devices. Keep clear of moving equipment. Before adjusting or servicing moving equipment, shut off the power supply and wait until the equipment comes to a complete stop. Lock out power and secure the equipment to prevent unexpected movement. Relieve (bleed off) hydraulic and pneumatic pressure before adjusting or servicing pressurized systems or components. Disconnect, lock out, and tag switches before servicing electrical equipment. While operating manual spray guns, make sure you are grounded. Wear electrically conductive gloves or a grounding strap connected to the gun handle or other true earth ground. Do not wear or carry metallic objects such as jewelry or tools. If you receive even a slight electrical shock, shut down all electrical or electrostatic equipment immediately. Do not restart the equipment until the problem has been identified and corrected. Obtain and read Material afety Data heets (MD) for all materials used. Follow the manufacturer s instructions for safe handling and use of materials, and use recommended personal protection devices. Make sure the spray area is adequately ventilated. To prevent injury, be aware of less-obvious dangers in the workplace that often cannot be completely eliminated, such as hot surfaces, sharp edges, energized electrical circuits, and moving parts that cannot be enclosed or otherwise guarded for practical reasons. High-Pressure Fluids High-pressure fluids, unless they are safely contained, are extremely hazardous. Always relieve fluid pressure before adjusting or servicing high pressure equipment. A jet of high-pressure fluid can cut like a knife and cause serious bodily injury, amputation, or death. Fluids penetrating the skin can also cause toxic poisoning. If you suffer a fluid injection injury, seek medical care immediately. If possible, provide a copy of the MD for the injected fluid to the health care provider. The National pray Equipment Manufacturers Association has created a wallet card that you should carry when you are operating high-pressure spray equipment. These cards are supplied with your equipment. The following is the text of this card:

4 Flow-Through-Felt Gravity Feed Applicator Tool WARNING: Any injury caused by high pressure liquid can be serious. If you are injured or even suspect an injury: Go to an emergency room immediately. Tell the doctor that you suspect an injection injury. how him this card Tell him what kind of material you were spraying MEDICAL ALERT AIRLE PRAY WOUND: NOTE TO PHYICIAN Injection in the skin is a serious traumatic injury. It is important to treat the injury surgically as soon as possible. Do not delay treatment to research toxicity. Toxicity is a concern with some exotic coatings injected directly into the bloodstream. Consultation with a plastic surgeon or a reconstructive hand surgeon may be advisable. The seriousness of the wound depends on where the injury is on the body, whether the substance hit something on its way in and deflected causing more damage, and many other variables including skin microflora residing in the paint or gun which are blasted into the wound. If the injected paint contains acrylic latex and titanium dioxide that damage the tissue s resistance to infection, bacterial growth will flourish. The treatment that doctors recommend for an injection injury to the hand includes immediate decompression of the closed vascular compartments of the hand to release the underlying tissue distended by the injected paint, judicious wound debridement, and immediate antibiotic treatment. Fire afety To avoid a fire or explosion, follow these instructions. Ground all conductive equipment. Use only grounded air and fluid hoses. Check equipment and workpiece grounding devices regularly. Resistance to ground must not exceed one megohm. hut down all equipment immediately if you notice static sparking or arcing. Do not restart the equipment until the cause has been identified and corrected. Do not smoke, weld, grind, or use open flames where flammable materials are being used or stored. Do not heat materials to temperatures above those recommended by the manufacturer. Make sure heat monitoring and limiting devices are working properly. Provide adequate ventilation to prevent dangerous concentrations of volatile particles or vapors. Refer to local codes or your material MD for guidance. Do not disconnect live electrical circuits when working with flammable materials. hut off power at a disconnect switch first to prevent sparking. Know where emergency stop buttons, shutoff valves, and fire extinguishers are located. If a fire starts in a spray booth, immediately shut off the spray system and exhaust fans. hut off electrostatic power and ground the charging system before adjusting, cleaning, or repairing electrostatic equipment. Clean, maintain, test, and repair equipment according to the instructions in your equipment documentation. Use only replacement parts that are designed for use with original equipment. Contact your Nordson representative for parts information and advice. Halogenated Hydrocarbon olvent Hazards Do not use halogenated hydrocarbon solvents in a pressurized system that contains aluminum components. Under pressure, these solvents can react with aluminum and explode, causing injury, death, or property damage. Halogenated hydrocarbon solvents contain one or more of the following elements: Element ymbol Prefix Fluorine F Fluoro- Chlorine Cl Chloro- Bromine Br Bromo- Iodine I Iodo- Check your material MD or contact your material supplier for more information. If you must use halogenated hydrocarbon solvents, contact your Nordson representative for information about compatible Nordson components. Action in the Event of a Malfunction If a system or any equipment in a system malfunctions, shut off the system immediately and perform the following steps: Disconnect and lock out system electrical power. Close hydraulic and pneumatic shutoff valves and relieve pressures. Identify the reason for the malfunction and correct it before restarting the system. Disposal Dispose of equipment and materials used in operation and servicing according to local codes.

9 Flow-Through-Felt Gravity Feed Applicator Tool 7 Maintenance Always perform preventive maintenance and lubrication procedures according to your facility maintenance schedule. Use the frequencies listed in Table if your facility does not have a maintenance schedule. WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. Table Maintenance chedule Frequency Item Task tart of hift and Every Four Hours Rub Blocks Clean the rub blocks. To prevent the felt from sticking, make sure that the rub blocks and side guides are clean. Inspect the rub block for wear. Inspect the material flow after each rub block change. Ensure that the readings are within the specified parameters. lide Check the slide module for freedom of movement. Verify that the slide air pressure gauge value on the valve pack module indicates the correct psi for performing a primer dispense routine. Rollers and Felt Lock Clean if necessary. Bead Appearance Ensure that the bead appearance is acceptable. Verify that the flow rates are within the specified parameters. Felt Inspect the felt level. Make sure that the felt is in the grooves of the rollers and over the rub blocks. Inspect to ensure that the system has enough felt to operate until next break. Replace felt if necessary. olvent container Check solvent level and refill if necessary. End of hift Rub Blocks Remove rub blocks from the applicator tool. Two Weeks /8-in. Rub Block Fluid Tubes Metering Pump Outlet Pressure Transducers Flush the rub block primer tubes with solvent. Insert the tubes into the holders on the dispense head. Perform the following:. Remove outlet pressure transducers from the metering pumps. Verify that no material blockage is present. the pressure reading indicated on the control panels operator interface reads 0 psi/bar.. Install the pressure transducers onto the metering pumps. Thirty Days Operating Double hifts Gripper Blocks Clean the gripper blocks. Inspect both blocks for wear. The gripper blocks are inrterchangeable. When interchanging the gripper blocks, make sure that they are properly orientated to the felt contact area. As Condition Requires Pumps Replace the metering pumps. Take-up Actuator Replace the take-up actuator. Pay-out Actuator Replace the pay-out actuator. Rollers and Felt Lock Replace the rollers and felt lock.

Follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. High pressure fluids are extremely dangerous. Relieve all fluid and air pressure to the applicator before performing these procedures. Obtain and read Material afety Data heets (MD) for all materials used. Follow the manufacturer s instructions for safe handling and use of materials, and use recommended personal protection devices. Pump NOTE: This procedure is typical for both pumps. Remove the Pump. Relieve fluid and air pressures to the applicator.. ee Figure. Disconnect the air supply line () from the pump (9).. Disconnect the connector () from the pressure transducer (8).. Disconnect the connector () from the speed sensor (). Remove the speed sensor from the pump (9).. Place a suitable waste container under the pump (9). 6. Disconnect the rub block tube fitting (7) from the pump (9). 7. Remove the cleaning fluid supply fitting () from the pump (9). 8. Tighten the screwsto6in.-lb(n m).. Install the cleaning fluid supply fitting () to the pump (9).. ee Figure. Install the speed sensor () onto the pump. Make sure that the gap between the face of the speed sensor and primer spindle button head screw () is in (.7--. mm). Tighten the lock nut () securely.. ee Figure. Make sure that all fluid and air pressures are relieved to the applicator.. ee Figure. Remove the felt () from the tension arm roller ().. Remove the tension arm spring () from the spring post ().. Tag and remove the air lines (0) from the fittings (9). Remove the fittings.. Remove the set screws (8) securing the tension arm gripper (7) to the supply rotary actuator (). Remove the gripper. 6. Remove the screws (6) securing the supply rotary actuator () to the frame (). Install the upply Rotary Actuator. ee Figure. Apply Loctite to the threads of the screws (6). Install the supply rotary actuator to the frame () the screws. Tighten the screws to 9 9 in.-lb (0. N m).. Install the fittings (9) to the supply rotary actuator (). Tighten the fittings securely. Connect the air lines (0) to the fittings. Remove the tags.. Apply Loctite to the threads of the set screws (8). Install the tension arm gripper (7) to the supply rotary actuator () using the set screws. Tighten the screws to in.-lb(. 0. N m).. Install the tension arm spring () to the spring post (). 14 Flow-Through-Felt Gravity Feed Applicator Tool Rotary Take-Up Actuator Use the following procedure to replace the rotary take-up actuator. Remove the Take-Up Rotary Actuator. ee Figure 6. From the controller, perform the procedure that releases the gripper blocks () from the felt ().. Make sure that air pressure is relieved to the applicator.. Move the felt lock () to the unlocked position. Remove the felt () from the rub blocks () and rollers (). Cut the used felt if desired.. Disconnect the following cables: Pressure transducer (6) lide sensor (7) Pump speed sensor (8) Felt-Empty sensor (9) Pump speed sensor (0) J-Box () UNLOCKED. ee Figure 7. Remove the take-up disc () from the rotary actuator (). 6. Remove the reels (, ). 7. Usea / 8 -in. combination wrench or equivalent to hold the shaft on the take-up rotary actuator (). The felt supply hub () has left-hand threads. Using a strap wrench, loosen and remove the felt supply hub. 8. Remove the rubber friction disc () and the remaining reel (6) from the shaft of the take up-rotary actuator (). 9. Note the position of the felt-empty sensor (). Loosen the screw () a / --turn. Remove the felt-empty sensor from the take-up rotary actuator () Tag and disconnect the air lines (0) from the fittings (9) on the take-up rotary actuator ().. Remove the screws () securing the J-Box module () to the take-up rotary actuator ().. Remove the screws (7) securing the take-up rotary actuator () to the frame (8). Position the felt-empty sensor () onto the the take-up rotary actuator () as shown. Turn the screw () a / --turn to tighten. Make sure that the cable does not interfere with the action of the take-up actuator.. Apply Loctite to the threads of the screws (7). Install the take up rotary actuator to the frame (8) using the screws. Tighten the screws to 9 9 in.-lb (0. N m).. Install the J-Box module () onto the take-up rotary actuator () using the screws (). Tighten the screws securely.. Install the reel (6) and rubber friction disc (). 6. Install the felt supply hub (). The felt supply hub has left-hand threads. Use a / 8 -in. combination wrench and strap wrench to tighten the felt supply hub. 7. Install the remaining reels (, ) onto the shaft of the take up rotary actuator (). 8. Connect the air lines (0) to the fittings (9). Remove the tags. 9. ee Figure 6. Connect the cables (6, 7, 8, 9, 0, ). Make sure that cables do not interfere with the action of the actuator (). 0. From the controller, perform the procedure that releases the gripper blocks () from the felt ().. Make sure that all fluid and air pressures are relieved to the applicator.. Move the felt lock () to the unlocked position. Remove the felt () from the rub blocks () and rollers ().. ee Figure 9. Remove the rub blocks (9, ) from the dispense head bracket ().. Remove the tube fittings (7, ) from the rub blocks (9, ). 6. Tag and disconnect the tubing () from the fittings (). Remove the fittings from the gripper (). 7. Remove the screws (6) securing the dispense head bracket () to the gripper (). 8. Remove the screws () securing the gripper () to theslidebracket(6). 9. Remove the screws () securing the felt grippers () to the gripper (). Install the Gripper. ee Figure 9. Apply Locktite to the threads of the screws (). Install the felt grippers () onto the gripper () using the screws. Tighten the screws to in.-lb (. 0. N m).. Apply Locktite to the threads of the screws (). Install the gripper () to the slide bracket (6) using the screws. Tighten the screws to 8 in.-lb(. 0.6 N m).. Apply Locktite to the threads of the screws (6). Install the dispense head bracket () to the gripper () using the screws. Tighten the screws to 8 in.-lb(. 0.6 N m).. Install the fittings () onto the gripper (). Connect the tubing () to the fittings. Make sure that the tubing is connected to the correct fitting.. Apply petroleum jelly to the pins (0), ferrules (8, ), and threads of the tube fittings (7, ). 6. Install the tube fittings (7, ) into the rub blocks (9, ) as shown. Make sure that each tube end bottoms out. Tighten the tube fittings finger tight; do not overtighten. 7. Install the rub blocks (9, ) onto the dispense head bracket (). 8. Make sure that the tubes are routed behind the pins in the tube slot. Make sure that there is no slack in the tubes. 9. ee Figure 8. Install the felt () around the rub blocks () and rollers (). From the controller, perform the procedure that releases the gripper blocks () from the felt ().. Make sure that all fluid and air pressures are relieved to the applicator.. Move the felt lock () to the unlocked position. Remove the felt () from the rub blocks () and rollers ().. ee Figure. Remove the rub blocks (0, ) from the dispense head bracket assembly (7).. Remove the tube fittings (8, ) from the rub blocks (0, ). 6. Disconnect the tubing () from the fittings (6). 7. Remove the screws (6) securing the cover (7) to theslide(). 8. Unlock the upper () and lower () limit sensors. Remove the sensors from the slide (). 9. Disconnect the tubing (0) from the fitting (8). 0. Remove the screws () securing the dispense head bracket assembly (7) to the slide bracket ().. Remove the screws () securing the slide bracket () to the slide ().. Remove the screws (9) securing the slide () to the compliance head scale ().. Remove the rings () from the slide (). Install the lide. ee Figure. Make sure that the slide () is fully extended. Install the rings () onto the slide. Position the rings / in. (. mm) away from the top of the air slide.. Install the fitting (8) onto the slide (). Tighten the fitting securely.. Apply Locktite to the threads of the screws (9). Install the slide () to the compliant head scale () using the screws. Tighten the screws to in.-lb(. 0. N m).. Connect the tube (0) to the fitting (8).. Apply Locktite to the threads of the screws (). Install the slide bracket () to the slide () using the screws. Tighten the screws to in.-lb(. 0. N m). 6. Apply Locktite to the threads of the screws (). Install the dispense head bracket assembly (7) to the slide bracket () using the screws. Tighten the screws to 8 in.-lb(. 0.6 N m). 7. Connect the tubing () to the fittings (6). Make sure that the tubing is connected to the correct fitting. 8. Apply petroleum jelly to the pins (), ferrules (9, ), and threads of the tube fittings (8, ). 9. Install the tube fittings (8, ) into the rub blocks (0, ) as shown. Make sure that each tube end bottoms out. Tighten the tube fittings finger tight; do not overtighten. 0. Install the rub blocks (0, ) onto the dispense head bracket assembly (7).. Make sure that the tubes are routed behind the pins in the tube slot as shown. Make sure that there is no slack in the tubes.. To install the limit sensors (, ) onto the slide (), apply power to the applicator and perform the following: a. Fully retract the slide. b. Insert the upper limit sensor () into the slot on the slide until the sensor light illuminates. c. Move the upper limit sensor down another 0.06 in. (0. mm) and lock into position. Figure 0 Removing the Felt UNLOCKED d. Fully extend the slide. e. Insert the lower limit sensor () into the into the slot on the slide until the sensor light illuminates. f. Move the lower limit position sensor up another 0.06 in. (0. mm) and lock into position.. ee Figure 0. Install the felt () around the rub blocks () and rollers (). Move the felt lock () to the locked position.
