1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Organization of this Operating Manual This manual starts with a description of your RENA T-600 In-Line Dual Tabber, then describes its set up, operation and maintenance. Finally, information is offered to help you determine what can go wrong and what to do about it. There are many helpful tips along the way, and it is strongly suggested that you become familiar with this entire manual prior to operating the T T-600 Description The T-600 is an automatic tabbing machine used to seal open mail pieces. Tabs are peeled from rolls of backing paper and applied to mail pieces such as self-mailers, brochures, newsletters and double postcards. Mail pieces are fed into the T-600 using a feeding device such as the RENA AF-371 Feeder, RENA L-300 Labeler, or a feeder or labeler from another manufacturer. If the T- 600 is to work correctly, mail pieces must be fed into it correctly -- with a gap of about one inch between mail pieces. This manual does not cover the operation of the various feeding devices that may be used to supply the T- 600 with mail pieces. Please read your feeding device operating manual before using it in-line with the T-600. The T-600 uses a pair of independent tabbing heads to advance rolls of pressure-sensitive tabs past peel bars. Partially peeled tabs hang from the backing paper, ready to be peeled at the peel bar before they contact the mail piece. Tabs are pressed onto mail pieces between a sweep and rolls. The tabbed mail pieces exit the T-600 and can be collected in an optional Catch Tray or stacked by a RENA TB-356 or TB-359 Conveyor. You can activate one or both heads to apply one or two tabs to each mail piece. 03/2003 1

Tab quality is as important as mail piece quality. Poor quality tabs and mail pieces take longer to run, jam often and produce poor results. Imitation tabs can be run on RENA Tabbers, but are not guaranteed to run problem-free. The T-600 depends on a smooth flow of both tabs and mail pieces. This flow is monitored by a set of sensors and a microprocessor. As with most microprocessor-controlled machines, the T-600 needs a few seconds to get itself ready to run. When you turn the power on, the T-600 takes 5 seconds to boot up. During this time, all lights flash and the control panel is inoperative. Signals from sensors are fed to the microprocessor which monitors the condition of each tabbing head and lets you know the condition through lights on the control panel. Without correct sensing, the T-600 will behave improperly, and since each head has its own sensors, conditions on one might not match the other. The T-600 s sensors work like all other electric eyes. When an object breaks the beam of light (the SENSOR BEAM) between them, an electrical signal is generated. It is imperative that this SENSOR BEAM PATH be maintained in its proper condition and alignment on both heads at all times. The emitter half of the sensor is located under the transport tray beneath the peel bar. It can be seen by looking into the T-600, along the paper path below the peel bar. The detector half is shrouded under the steel covers at the input end of the T- 600 in front of the peel bar. Clear Tab Reference Note: The references in this manual for clear tabs are actually referring to frosted tabs. The T-600 can not run tabs that are totally clear (without frosting). A totally clear tab material would not block the sensor, so frosted or denser tabs must be used. 2 06/2007

Figure Paper Path Debris and stray tabs can become caught in the paper path and sensor beam. Rough, careless handling of the T-600 can cause the sensors to become misaligned. Both of these conditions must be prevented. The T-600 requires periodic cleaning and reasonable handling. Paper dust build-up or abuse will bring the successful operation of the T-600 to an end. Take care of your T-600 by following the set up, operation and maintenance instructions in this manual. 03/2003 3

5.4 Control Panel Figure T-600 Control Panel Tab Ready The TAB READY lights for HEAD 1 and HEAD 2 are located on the CONTROL PANEL. Under normal operation, when the TAB READY light illuminates, the SENSOR BEAM is broken by a tab ready to be applied. When the T-600 is tabbing correctly, the TAB READY light will flash with each tabbed mail piece. The TAB READY light will illuminate when stray tabs or debris break the SENSOR BEAM. If a tab is not detected within a preset time, the TAB READY light will not illuminate except when being pressed. TIP You can tell there are stray tabs in the SENSOR BEAM when you feed mail pieces, the TAB READY stays ON (does not flash) and tabs are misplaced or not applied to the mail pieces. The TAB READY light flashes and T-600 shuts down if problems occur during tabbing. 03/

5.4.2 Sense Clear Head 1 On / Head 2 On To detect clear (frosted) tabs, toggle ON by pressing to the lower right of the SENSE CLEAR light so the light turns ON. To detect opaque tabs, toggle OFF by pressing to the lower right of the SENSE CLEAR light so the light turns OFF. The SENSE CLEAR selection is disabled once HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 is turned ON, even if HEAD 1 and/or 2 has subsequently been turned OFF. To enable the SENSE CLEAR selection: 1. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 OFF. 2. Feed a mail piece. 3. Turn the POWER SWITCH OFF and ON. NOTE Be sure there are no stray tabs in the SENSOR BEAM. If you have trouble selecting SENSE CLEAR, clean the SENSOR BEAM PATH. (Refer to Section ) 4. Wait 5 seconds and press SENSE CLEAR ON. After the POWER SWITCH has been turned ON and 5 seconds have passed (lights flash), HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 can be turned ON enabling tabbing. If there is anything in the SENSOR BEAM (a tab ready to be applied, a stray tab or any debris), the TAB READY light will illuminate. NOTE If OPAQUE is selected and a clear (frosted) tab is in the SENSOR BEAM, the TAB READY light will not illuminate. Thus, it is best to inspect the SENSOR BEAM before each new tabbing job /2007

If there is nothing in the SENSOR BEAM when HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 is turned ON, the respective HEAD will run until a tab is ready to be applied. If no tab reaches the SENSOR BEAM in a preset time, continue turning HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON until the TAB READY light illuminates. To disable tabbing, turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 OFF Tab Wrap Controls: Move Down & Move Up Each HEAD has its own pair of TAB WRAP CONTROLS. Use these controls to move the tab more to the top (MOVE UP) or bottom (MOVE DOWN) of the mail piece. These controls are active only when the HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 light is ON and do not effect the very next tab to be applied, but all tabs thereafter. Tab placement changes in roughly 1 / 32 " increments with each push of the arrow. Total tab placement adjustment is a bit less than 1 / 2 ". Press both MOVE DOWN and MOVE UP arrows at once to restore approximate 50/50 (factory preset) tab wrap. HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 must be ON. 03/

6. FEEDING DEVICES 6.1 Placing the T- 600 In-Line To operate the T-600 in-line with your feeding device, place the output end of the feeding device next to the input end of the T-600. Leave about an 1 / 8 " gap between the machines. Align machines to place tabs where desired on the mail pieces. The gap between the feeding device and the T-600 may need adjusting if the mail pieces are curled or rigid. If the mail pieces leading edge curls up, the gap should be larger than 1 / 8 " to allow the curled edge to come down before entering the T-600. If the leading edge curls down, the gap should be as small as possible, so the mail pieces will not fall between the two machines. A rigid mail piece may require a larger gap if it hits the bracket above the T-600 PAPER PATH. NOTE Turn on the T-600 before turning on any feeding device. If the T-600 is not turned on first, it will not accept the fed mail pieces. NOTE Some equipment, when run in-line with the T-600, requires a stand to raise it to the level of the T When ordering additional equipment, specify which machine you plan to operate in-line with the T /2007

6.2 RENA Systems L-300 Labeler The RENA L-300 Labeler applies labels to mail pieces and, if set in-line with the T-600, feeds mail pieces into the T-600. When you release the NIP ROLL PLATE, the gap between the DRIVE ROLL and the NIP ROLL closes. 11. Remove the CLIP from the TAKE-UP SPINDLE ASSEMBLY, wrap the backing paper from the input end over the TAKE-UP SPINDLE ASSEMBLY and secure the CLIP on the backing paper. 12. Release the PRESSURE PLATE and slide the TAB ROLL GUIDES to the sides of the tab roll. NOTE Be sure you ve left no stray tabs under the PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY. WARNING NEVER CLEAN, CLEAR OR DISASSEMBLE THE T- 600 WITHOUT FIRST UNPLUGGING THE POWER CORD. 7.2 Paper Path Set Up 1. Turn the POWER SWITCH ON and feed a mail piece through the T-600. In normal operation, this removes any tabs that are hanging in the PEEL POINT AREA. This does not remove stray tabs that are stuck on the SWEEPS, SENSORS or the PEEL BAR. If tabbing set up problems occur, inspect and clean this area since most problems arise from stray tabs, dirt and debris in the SENSOR BEAM and PAPER PATH. WARNING NEVER CLEAN, CLEAR OR DISASSEMBLE THE T- 600 WITHOUT FIRST UNPLUGGING THE POWER CORD. 2. If you are tabbing the same size mail piece in the same position as the previous run, skip to the next section. 3. Turn the POWER SWITCH OFF /2007

4. Remove SLOT COVERS. 5. Using a sample of the mail piece to be tabbed, rotate the HEAD POSITION KNOB to move both HEADS to their desired position. Don t forget to release tension to the knob after the HEADS are in the desired position. TIP For best twin tabbing performance, position the HEADS so all four UPPER TRANSPORT ROLLS come into contact with the mail pieces. 6. Install SLOT COVERS as needed. Be sure that the TRANSPORT ROLLS are free. Leave a bit of space for fine-tuning tab position. 7. Turn the POWER SWITCH ON. Listen to the T-600. If you hear a grinding noise, immediately turn the POWER SWITCH OFF and free up the TRANSPORT ROLLS and SLOT COVERS. Be sure that all TRANSPORT ROLLS turn freely, which will help move the mail pieces. CAUTION TURNING POWER ON AND OFF QUICKLY WILL CAUSE TABS TO ADVANCE ABOUT 1 / 8 ". MAKE SURE TABS HAVE NOT ADVANCED INTO THE SENSOR BEAM. 7.3 Opaque Tab Set-Up 1. Turn POWER SWITCH ON. 2. Feed a mail piece to clear the PAPER PATH. 3. Make sure tabs are threaded correctly. (Refer to Figure 7.3.) 4. Choose the HEADS you will be using (1, 2 or both). 5. Make sure the SENSE CLEAR light is OFF. If it isn t, turn SENSE CLEAR OFF. 6. The TAB READY light for the selected HEAD(S) should be OFF. If ON (and you ve followed this procedure), there is a stray tab or debris blocking the SENSOR BEAM. Double-check the SENSOR BEAM. 03/

7.4 Clear (frosted) Tab Set-Up 7. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON. The tab roll will advance for a preset amount of time. If a tab peels into the SENSOR BEAM in less than the preset time, the TAB READY light will illuminate. If no tab is peeled in the preset time, the TAB READY will not light. Continue turning HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON until the TAB READY light comes ON. NOTE Occasionally, a roll of opaque tabs may not peel properly or may not peel at all. If this happens, tabs will pass through the T-600 without coming off the backing paper. If, after toggling HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 OFF and ON several times, tabs have not peeled properly, change tabs, clean the PAPER PATH and SENSOR BEAM PATH and begin again. 1. Turn the POWER SWITCH ON and select which HEAD(S) you wish to use. 2. Feed a mail piece to clear the PAPER PATH. 3. Turn SENSE CLEAR ON for the respective HEAD(S). That HEAD is now set to run clear (frosted) tabs. 4. Double-check threading. (Refer to Figure 7.3.) 5. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON. The tab roll will advance for a preset amount of time. If no tab peels into the SENSOR BEAM in that time, the HEAD will shut down. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON until the TAB READY light turns ON. Clear Tab Reference Note: The references in this manual for clear tabs are actually referring to frosted tabs. The T-600 can not run tabs that are totally clear (without frosting). A totally clear tab material would not block the sensor, so frosted or denser tabs must be used /2007

NOTE Occasionally, a roll of clear (frosted) tabs may not peel properly or may not peel at all. If this happens, tabs will pass through the T-600 without coming off the backing paper. If, after turning HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON several times, tabs have not peeled properly, change tabs, clean the PAPER PATH and SENSOR BEAM PATH and begin again. TIP Clear (frosted) tabs, such as translucent tabs, peel differently than paper tabs. For best results when using clear (frosted) tabs, set the PEEL BAR as close to the mail pieces as possible without impeding the movement of the mail pieces through the T /

8. OPERATION 8.1 Operating Prerequisites 8.2 Before Operating the T-600 This section assumes that: 1. Mail pieces from the feeding device are moving through the T-600 in a straight and normal way. 2. Tabbing heads are positioned and threaded correctly. 3. Tab set-up has been done. 8.3 Operating the T Turn the POWER SWITCH ON. 2. Feed a mail piece to empty the PAPER PATH and SENSOR BEAM PATH. 3. Select SENSE CLEAR if required Head 1 On / Head 2 On 1. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON. 2. Feed mail pieces. They should be tabbed accurately and consistently Re-Position Tabs Left Right Tabbing heads may be re-positioned while the T-600 is tabbing. Take care to avoid jamming heads against SLOT COVERS. Remove and replace SLOT COVERS if necessary. SLOT COVERS must not interfere with TRANSPORT ROLLS /2007

To re-position tabs: RENA T-600 IN-LINE DUAL TABBER 1. Move HEADS using HEAD POSITION KNOB - make sure to relieve tension from knob after moving: move KNOB: clockwise counterclockwise to position HEADS: further apart closer together Re-Position Tabs Up b Down 1. Determine which HEAD controls the tabs to be adjusted. 2. Press and release either the MOVE DOWN or MOVE UP TAB WRAP CONTROLS. Continue, while tabbing, until tabs are in the desired position. press: MOVE UP MOVE DOWN to fold more of the tab: on the top of the mail piece on the bottom of the mail piece TIP For twin tabbing with opaque tabs, if necessary, you can set different tab wraps on each HEAD so as not to cover up printing on mail pieces. Each time you press and release a TAB WRAP CONTROL, you ll see a light flash and hear a beep. There is a limit to the number of times this control responds. If you reach the limit and are not satisfied with the tab wrap, it may be necessary to adjust the PEEL BAR up or down and start over with the TAB WRAP CONTROLS. NOTE Tab wrap is greatly affected by tab quality. When using low quality tabs, it may be impossible to place each and every tab precisely. 03/

8.4 Splicing Tabs It is faster to splice tabs than to re-thread them. Make sure that you don t let the tab roll empty completely. The new tab roll may be secured to the old tab roll with a tab or a piece of transparent tape. NOTE The technique of splicing tabs eliminates the bother of re-threading them in the middle of a run. Figure Splicing Tabs 1. Stop tabbing by discontinuing feeding. Turn the T-600 POWER SWITCH OFF. 2. Pull the PRESSURE PLATE down and latch it in place. 3. Remove the empty TAB ROLL and replace it with a full one. Leave the T-600 threaded with tabs back to the TAB ROLL. 4. Peel a few tabs off the new roll and tape the empty backing paper on top of the old roll. 5. Take slack out of the tabs and release the PRESSURE PLATE. Check to be sure that the new roll is in line with the old roll. (Refer to Figure 8.1.) 6. Turn the POWER SWITCH ON /2007

7. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 ON for the desired HEAD(S) and resume tabbing at a reduced (about half) speed until the splice has run through the T-600 and been taken up on the TAKE-UP SPOOL. 8.5 Removing Waste Backing Paper Figure Removing Waste Backing Paper 1. Tear the waste backing paper, leaving enough to reach the TAKE-UP SPINDLE. 2. Pull the waste backing paper off the TAKE-UP SPINDLE ASSEMBLY. 3. Remove the CLIP from the center of the waste backing paper. 4. Place backing paper over the TAKE-UP SPINDLE from the input end. 5. Secure backing paper to the SPINDLE with the CLIP. TIP Have a few extra CLIPS on hand as they are easy to lose. 03/

9. MAINTENANCE 9.1 General Cleaning & Clearing Your T-600 will need regular cleaning. How often you ll need to clean the T-600 depends on the amount of paper dust your mail pieces generate. Frequently remove surface dust or debris from the T-600 using RENA Canned Air or RENACare. The most critical area of the T-600 is at the bottom of the PEEL BAR where the tabs and mail pieces come together. It is at this point that the PAPER PATH and SENSOR BEAM cross. Since tabbing occurs at this very point, this area gets dirty fast and needs cleaning the most. Clean this area in 2 steps. When the SENSORS are cleaned, the SENSOR BEAM is cleared. When the PAPER PATH is cleaned, it is also cleared. Figure 9.1 illustrates the major components involved. Figure Cleaning the Peel Point Area 38 06/2007

9.2 Clearing the Paper Path RENA T-600 IN-LINE DUAL TABBER WARNING DO NOT PLACE FINGERS OR TOOLS BETWEEN OR NEAR MOVING PARTS. 1. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 OFF. 2. Feed a mail piece. 3. Turn the POWER SWITCH OFF. 4. Unplug the POWER CORD. 5. Remove the PEEL BAR and clean it. Make sure the Teflon Tape on the bottom of the PEEL BAR is intact. 6. Look for stray tabs and debris along the top of the FEED TRAY. Follow the path that mail pieces take through the T-600 from between the UPPER and LOWER TRANSPORT ROLLS, under the white plastic SWEEP and out past the PRESSURE ROLLS. Remove any stray tabs, glue, residue and debris from these components. 7. Remove any tabs from under the PEEL BAR WEB CONTROL PRESS PLATE. 8. Remove the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY if necessary. (Refer to Section 9.5.) 9.3 Cleaning the Sensor Beam Path The SENSOR BEAM is an imaginary line that connects the SENSORS. The emitter is located between the LOWER TRANSPORT ROLLS below the FEED TRAY. The detector is mounted between the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLLS in the SENSOR MOUNT BRACKET. The line between the emitter and detector (sensors) must be kept free of dirt, stray tabs, glue and debris. WARNING DO NOT PLACE FINGERS OR TOOLS BETWEEN OR NEAR MOVING PARTS. 03/

1. Turn HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 OFF. 2. Feed a mail piece. 3. Turn the POWER SWITCH OFF. 4. Unplug the POWER CORD. 5. Remove the PEEL BAR and clean it. 6. Blow dust and debris from the emitter with RENA Canned Air. 7. Blow air underneath the SENSOR MOUNT BRACKET to remove dust and debris from the detector. 8. Remove the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY if necessary. (Refer to Section 9.5.) CAUTION DO NOT PUSH AGAINST THE SENSOR MOUNT BRACKET. 9.4 Cleaning the Drive & Nip Rolls Glue build-up on the DRIVE ROLLS and NIP ROLLS will eventually cause slipping and poor tab placement. 1. Turn the POWER SWITCH OFF and unplug power cord. 2. Remove the backing paper from the DRIVE ROLLS. You don t have to re-thread. 3. Use RENACare rubber conditioner to remove any residue. 4. Replace the backing paper on the DRIVE ROLLS. 5. Replace the backing paper on the TAKE-UP SPINDLE and secure with CLIP /2007

9.5 Removing the Upper Transport Roll Assembly The components of the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY make up the top of the PAPER PATH. Removing this assembly exposes both the PAPER PATH and the SENSOR BEAM. Figure Cleaning the Peel Point Area Tool Required One 3-5" medium-width blade screwdriver. 03/

9.5.2 Removing To remove UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY: 1. Turn POWER SWITCH OFF and unplug power cord. 2. Remove outboard SLOT COVERS. 3. Spread HEADS fully by rotating HEAD POSITION KNOB clockwise. 4. Using specified screwdriver, remove the silver button head screw at the end of the SENSOR MOUNT BRACKET. CAUTION DO NOT DROP THE SCREWDRIVER OR THE SCREW INTO T Loosen the thumb screw on the ROLL SUPPORT PLATE. 6. Slide the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY with its mounting stud toward the center of the T-600 and remove it Replacing To replace UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY: 1. Slide the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY over its mounting stud and line up the screw holes. 2. Start threading both screws (button head and thumb). 3. Make sure the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY is properly situated, then seat the silver button head screw precisely in its hole and tighten. 4. Tighten thumb screw /2007

10. TROUBLESHOOTING WARNING UNPLUG THE POWER CORD BEFORE REMOVING, ADJUSTING OR REPAIRING ANY PARTS IN THE T Set-Up Troubleshooting Chart TROUBLE CAUSE SOLUTION 1. Nothing works. POWER SWITCH is off. 2. Backing paper tears. 3. Tabbing failure -- PEEL BAR ASSE- MBLY is not tight. 4. Tabs not folding-- one tab on many pieces/ some pieces not tabbed. Turn POWER SWITCH on. POWER CORD is Replace POWER damaged or not plugged CORD if damaged or in. plug into proper outlet. Outlet does not have power. TAB ROLL is not aligned with DRIVE ROLL. Teflon tape on peel bar is damaged or missing. Check circuit source for a blown fuse or circuit breaker. Re-thread tabs. Refer to Section 7.1. Replace teflon tape. PEEL BAR pops out. Secure PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY and check for stray tabs. Feeding device is too fast. Slow feeding device down until tabs are properly and consistently folding. No gap. 1" between mail pieces is best. Tighten feeding device SEPARATOR. Tabs are not peeling. Slow feeding device down. Lower PEEL BAR when using clear (frosted) tabs. 03/

10.2 Operation Troubleshooting Chart TROUBLE CAUSE SOLUTION 1. Mail pieces jam upon entering T- 600 with possible machine shut down. SLOT COVERS jam against TRANSPORT ROLLS. Dirt & debris in PAPER PATH. Move the SLOT COVERS. Remove the UPPER TRANSPORT ROLL ASSEMBLY if necessary. (Section 9.1.) SWEEP is reversed. Push the PEEL BAR between the TRANSPORT ROLLS along the PAPER PATH. Feeding Device is too close or too far away. SWEEP position needs adjustment. 2. T-600 doesn t run. Power entry fuse is blown. 3. No waste take-up. Backing paper is threaded under the DRIVE ROLL. Reposition Feeding Device. Contact your local RENA Systems dealer. Replace blown line fuse. Refer to Section 3.3. Keeps blowing fuses. Contact your local RENA Systems dealer. Rethread tabs. Refer to Section /2007

TROUBLE CAUSE SOLUTION 4. Feeding device lost power. 5. Tab placement is inconsistent. 6. Leading edge of mail piece tears at tab. 7. Tab fold is uneven/ proportion incorrect. ACCESSORY FUSE is blown. Mail pieces are feeding crooked. Mail pieces jam, stall or skew at HEAD. SWEEP position needs adjustment. Mail pieces are poorly folded or are too thin. Tab wrap is not set properly. Replace blown ACCESSORY FUSE (Section 3.4) or contact your local RENA Systems dealer. Make sure mail pieces feed into the T-600 straight. SLOT COVERS interfere with TRANSPORT ROLLS. Re-position HEADS so that all 4 UPPER TRANSPORT ROLLS contact mail pieces when twin tabbing. Contact your local RENA Systems dealer. Folds must have even panels. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS. Adjust TAB WRAP CONTROLS. Refer to Section /

TROUBLE CAUSE SOLUTION 8. Tab fold is off mail piece. Mail pieces are feeding too fast. Slow feeding device down. 9. Tabs on top of mail pieces. 10. Tabbing failure -- TAB READY begins flashing, several clear (frosted) tabs have peeled at peel point and machine shuts down. 11. Tabbing failure -- either TAB READY lights flash, machine shuts down. 12. All lights flash, T- 600 shuts down. SWEEP position needs adjusting. Contact your local RENA Systems dealer. Tabs are not peeling. Reduce tension on PRESSURE PLATE or lower PEEL BAR or slow down feeding device or try different tabs. Sensor does not detect tabs. When using two HEADS (twin tabbing), one head has stopped. Clean PAPER PATH and SENSOR BEAM PATH. Repeat tab set-up procedure. If unsuccessful, try a different roll of tabs. If still unsuccessful, contact your local RENA Systems dealer. Investigate the HEAD that has stopped tabbing and correct the error. Turn POWER SWITCH OFF and repeat start-up procedure. 4-5 mail pieces will have only 1 tab. Check mail pieces output and correct the error. Transport jam. Clear jam and resume tabbing /2007

11. CORRECTING TABBING PROBLEMS 11.1 No Tabs Applied To Mail Pieces RENA T-600 IN-LINE DUAL TABBER Sensor Did Not Detect A Tab When HEAD 1 and/or HEAD 2 is turned ON, the tab strip advances until a tab peels and is detected. After that, each mail piece causes tabs to advance. If tabs are advanced but not detected, the T-600 shuts down after a preset amount of time. If this happens: 1. Feed a mail piece. 2. If it is tabbed incorrectly or the TAB READY light remains ON, such a jam has occurred. 3. Clean the PEEL POINT AREA. (Refer to Section ) If cleaning doesn t correct the problem, contact an authorized RENA dealer Sensor Could Not Detect Clear (frosted) Tabs Sensors are self-tuning every time SENSE CLEAR is turned on. In order to successfully run clear (frosted) tabs, SENSE CLEAR must be selected with an empty SENSOR BEAM PATH. After use, debris and stray tabs on the sensor (in the beam) affects the sensors self-tuning ability. If you have trouble selecting and running clear (frosted) tabs, clean the sensor and/or remove any stray tabs from the SENSOR BEAM PATH. (Refer to Section ) Then turn SENSE CLEAR OFF and back ON again. If the situation persists, change the roll of tabs. If you still have trouble, contact an authorized RENA Systems dealer. TIP Translucent tabs work best. 03/

Mail Piece Jam Mail pieces jam at the TRANSPORT ROLLS if the SLOT COVERS are not correctly placed or if the SWEEP is out of position. To clear mail pieces from the TRANSPORT ROLLS: 1. Turn POWER SWITCH OFF and unplug power cord. 2. Pull the jammed mail pieces in the direction that they feed through the T-600 if possible. CAUTION PULLING MAIL PIECES IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION THAT THEY MOVE THROUGH THE T- 600 MAY DAMAGE THE SWEEP OR MOVE IT OUT OF POSITION. 3. If you cannot reach the jammed mail pieces, push the PRESSURE ROLL ASSEMBLY toward the end with the spring attached. Pull out the other end, as you push in the spring end. Make sure the other end clears the side frame, and remove the assembly. WARNING NEVER CLEAN, CLEAR OR DISASSEMBLE THE T- 600 WITHOUT FIRST UNPLUGGING THE POWER CORD. 4. Remove the SLOT COVERS and dislodge any mail pieces jammed in the T Once cleared, replace the PRESSURE ROLL ASSEMBLY and SLOT COVERS. 6. Check the SWEEP. It should be bent in the direction of the mail piece flow. If it isn t, push the SWEEP back into position by pushing the PEEL BAR down the PAPER PATH between the UPPER and LOWER TRANSPORT ROLLS /2007

Torn Backing Paper If the backing paper tears before the DRIVE ROLL, the T- 600 continues running but stops tabbing. To start tabbing: 1. Turn OFF the POWER SWITCH. 2. Thread the T-600. (Refer to Figure 7.3.) 3. Double-check the alignment of the TAB ROLL and the NIP ROLL. If the backing paper tears after the DRIVE ROLL, the backing paper may fall away from the T-600 and tabbing will continue. If the backing paper wraps around the rolls in the threading path, tabbing may continue for a while, but tab placement will not be accurate. To continue tabbing accurately: Incorrect Threading 1. Turn OFF the POWER SWITCH. 2. Secure the backing paper around the TAKE-UP SPINDLE with the CLIP. If you don t have enough backing paper to reach the TAKE-UP SPINDLE, tab several mail pieces while holding the backing paper in your hand. The PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY is not secure: This causes the backing paper to pull the PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY out of its slot, tabs peel in the wrong place, and the PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY blocks mail pieces entering the T-600. Tighten the knob, securing the PEEL BAR to the PEEL BAR SUPPORT BRACKET. Backing paper is threaded under the DRIVE ROLL: This causes the backing paper to wrap around the DRIVE ROLL instead of the TAKE-UP SPINDLE. Rethread the T-600. (Refer to Figure 7.3.) 03/
