3 Steel Cabinet Construction Detail ICI Scientifi c 2 steel base cabinets are available in a variety of styles and sizes to fi t virtually any laboratory layout. Cabinets can be used in wall, peninsula and island confi gurations. Select from open, drawer, door and combination styles in both sitting, ADA and standing heights as well as different widths. 6 Fume Hood Accessories Fittings for Bench Hoods These WaterSaver brand remote control fi ttings consist of a brass angle valve with a replaceable seat, an epoxy coated brass nylon color-coded panel fl ange with angle serrated hose connector (except LGS-3185-W(V), which features a gooseneck with or with out a vacuum breaker), a remote control rod assembly with a plastic fl ange and a tank nipple, locknut and washer. The TEL AFA-1000 provides a digital readout of the fume hood face velocity and sounds an alarm when the airfl ow falls below safe levels. Consisting of a thermostat sensor (mounted through the side wall of the fume hood) and a monitor (mounted on the fascia), the unit gives both a visual and audible alarm. A glowing green light signals when conditions are safe. The monitor also contains a test/reset button allowing the user to verify alarm readiness. The TEL AFA-1000 operates on a 9V DC circuit and comes complete with an adapter that is plugged into a pre wired 120 VAC receptacle on the roof of the hood. 7 Fume Hood Work Tops These modifi ed black epoxy resin work tops are dished to retain spills. They are available with or without a drop in cup sink hole. 16 Heavy Duty Steel Tables These tables are an excellent choice for a wide range of uses that require a flexible and mobile yet stable and heavy duty workspace or equipment platform. Tables are rated for up to 2000 lbs. The adjustable height option provides a positive and secure mechanical height adjustment for the table. Our wood or steel mobile cabinets on pages 27 and 43 are a perfect addition to the tables to provide a simple and cost effective workstation. Table assemblies include a full welded heavy duty 2 x 2 (5.1cm x 5.1cm) tubular steel frame with legs and spreaders as shown. Available work surfaces are black 1 (2.5 cm) thick epoxy or phenolic resin. They overlap the table frame by 1 (2.5 cm). 23 Door and Drawer Details ICI Scientifi c door and drawer construction is a well established quality standard for the laboratory marketplace. Hand selected premium rift cut oak grade A veneers, full fl ush overlay, vertical grain matching with tight reveals. All INSTOCK wood laboratory cabinets come in a ICI s chemically resistant Amber fi nish. All four corners of the drawer box are dovetailed. Drawer bottom is white 1/4 melamine faced hardboard let into drawer sides, secured underneath by a continuous bead of glue. Drawer sides are sanded smooth, have a coat of baked on catalyzed conversion varnish, and grooved to receive the drawer bottom. Separate drawer face is attached to drawer box and vertically matched. Drawer glides are side mounted, zinc plated, ball bearing, 100 lb. heavy duty, full extension. Three-Point Latching System ICI Scientifi c s tall case doors operate with a three-point latching system. The quality of a three-point latching system enables the door to be pulled securely shut. Tapered aluminum rods - which engage plastic strike plates at the top and bottom of the case - move in nylon glides attached to the back of the door. The middle of the door is secured by a latch plate, which engages the side of the case, or latches behind the left door on cases with double doors. Hinges, Pulls & Locks ICI Scientifi c s hinges and pulls are made from stainless steel. The hinges are heavy duty laboratory grade and hospital tipped for consistency, strength and durability. They are certifi ed to the rigors of SEFA-8 performance standards. ICI Scientifi c locks are keyed alike per unit, master keyed and two keys are provided with each lock. All lock faces are chrome plated. A removable core system allows lock cores to be held out until the project is completed; removing the control security risk of lost or stolen keys during installation. Once installed, with the use of a control key, the lock core of the assembly can be removed and a new lock core inserted, changing an entire locking system in minutes. 44 Envision Plumbing Accessories INSTOCK WaterSaver plumbing assemblies for the Envision table system are furnished complete and include all of the components shown on this page. Assemblies include a fine control needle valve service turret with shank, a service hose as well as a male quick disconnect fitting. These complete assemblies are designed specifically for use in the laboratory environment. All quick connects have 316 stainless steel internal components. Keyed quick connects will only couple with components of the same key which are identified by a color code. Assemblies consist of 2 major components and are shipped loose to be installed at the job site. System Service Hoses These hoses carry services from the overhead service panel, through the upright of the table and to the shank of the fixture. They consist of either a color coded reinforced PVC or a braided stainless steel, 3/8 hose. Stainless steel is used for gas service. They include two male 3/8 IPS outlet nipples and adapters to attached to the male quick disconnect as well as the shank of the service valve. Each hose extends 48 above the table frame. It is also the most common safety cabinet of all the different types available. It has a common plenum from which 30% of air is exhausted, and 70% re-circulated to the work area as the downflow. If trace amount of toxic chemicals are employed as an adjunct to microbiological processes, Type A2 cabinets should be exhaust ducted. Exhaust HEPA filtration only removes airborne aerosols including biohazards, and not chemical fumes. If larger amount of vaporizing toxic chemicals are used, type B2 cabinets should be used instead. Per the newly released NSF/ANSI 47:2010, now the Class II Type A2 must have the positivelypressurized contaminated plenum to be surrounded by a zone of negative pressureization. In case there is a leakage on the positive plenum, the leaking aerosol will be pulled by the negative pressure back to the positive plenum, to insure capture and containment. In the A2 cabinet, about 70% of air from the positive plenum is recirculated as downflow, and the remaining 30% is discharged to the lab through the exhaust filter Labculture Class II Type B2 Biosafety Cabinets ULPA-filtered air Unfiltered/potentially contaminated air Room air/inflow air The main difference between Type A and Type B2 cabinet is: Type B2 cabinets must be operated with an external blower which exhausts air to the external environment via a dedicated ductwork system. This cabinet is not self-balancing. Its own blower can only create downflow, and the cabinet relies on the external blower to create inflow. In the Class II Type B2 cabinet all inflow and downflow air is exhausted after HEPA filtration to the external environment without recirculation within the cabinet. Type B2 cabinets are suitable for work with toxic chemicals employed as an adjuct to microbiological processes under all circumstances since no recirculation occurs. In theory, Type B2 cabinets may be considered the safest of all Class II biological safety cabinets since the total exhaust deature acts as a fail-safe in the event that the downflow and/or exhaust HEPA filtration systems cease to function normally. However, Class II Type B2 cabinets are, in practice, more difficult to install, balance and maintain. 48
