1 COBB SPORT SPRINGS Subaru WRX/STi Congratulations on your purchase of the COBB Sport Springs for your Subaru WRX/STi. The following instructions will assist you through your installation process. Please read them first BEFORE beginning the install and familiarize yourself with the steps and tools needed. If you feel that you cannot properly perform this installation, we HIGHLY recommend you take the vehicle to a qualified and experienced automotive technician.

Pre-Installation Preparation 1. While the car is still on the ground, it is a good idea to break the lug nuts loose using a 19mm socket (stock lug nuts) and breaker bar. 2.

3 Pre-Installation Preparation 1. While the car is still on the ground, it is a good idea to break the lug nuts loose using a 19mm socket (stock lug nuts) and breaker bar. 2. With the car on a lift, or supported by four (4) jack stands, remove all four (4) wheels. Removal of Stock Front Suspension 1. Before removing any part of the factory suspension, we recommend marking the camber bolts in order to return the car to approximately the same camber settings when the springs are reinstalled. Mark the top bolt on the bolt-head side (not the nut) and its relative position on the strut, as shown below. We still recommend having the car professionally aligned after the installation is complete to assure that your car is within proper specifications. 2. Using a 12mm socket, remove the two bolts that hold the brake line and ABS sensor wire to the strut, as shown above. Copyright 2012 COBB Tuning Products LLC. All Rights Reserved 3

3. Using a 19mm socket on a breaker bar and a 19mm

4. Under the hood, remove the three nuts that attach the strut top to the chassis using a 12mm socket. Make sure to support the strut when removing the last nut, as it will drop out.

At this point, the strut may be completely removed from the car. Repeat these steps on the opposite side of the car. 5.

It is recommended to place an old magazine or similar between the strut and axle boot, so that the boot does not get torn while removing the strut. At this point, the strut may be completely removed from the car. Repeat these steps on the opposite side of the car. 5. With the strut out of the car, be sure to mark the relation of the upper spring perch to the lower spring perch and the end of the spring coil on the spring perch, as shown below. If it is not reinstalled in the same relation, the upper spring perch may contact the chassis while turning. 6. Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the rubber cover in the center of the top hat to access the 17mm nut. Copyright 2012 COBB Tuning Products LLC. All Rights Reserved 5

6 7. Place the strut in a spring compressor, or similar device, and compress the spring until it relieves the tension on the upper spring perch. While compressed, remove the 17mm nut in the center of the top hat. If you do not have high speed air tools, it may be necessary to use a 6mm allen wrench inserted into the top of the strut shaft to prevent spinning while a 17mm boxed-end wrench is used on the nut. When removing the factory spring, pay attention to the assembly so it can later be reassembled properly. It may help to completely disassemble and reassemble one side at a time, so that you have the other side for reference. 8. With the factory spring removed, you may now remove the bump stop, which sits on the strut shaft underneath the shock boot. Using a hacksaw or razor blade, trim the very bottom section from the bump stop as shown and reinstall. Please take care not to injure yourself or someone else. Installation of COBB Tuning Sport Springs 1. Place the strut back in the spring compressor and install the COBB Sport Springs with the same orientation as the factory springs.

7 Installation of COBB Tuning Sport Springs 1. Place the strut back in the spring compressor and install the COBB Sport Springs with the same orientation as the factory springs. Reinstall the upper spring perch, washer and top hat, and torque the 17mm nut to 41 ft-lbs. 2. Reinstall the strut in the chassis and torque the three 12mm nuts on the top hat to 15 ft-lbs. 3. Reinstall the two 19mm bottom bolts and torque them to 129 ft-lbs. 4. Reinstall the ABS wire and brake line bolts and torque them to 24 ft-lbs. Copyright 2012 COBB Tuning Products LLC. (SEDAN ONLY) Remove the rear seat backrest by removing the three 12mm bolts at the bottom of the cushion.

8 Removal of Stock Rear Suspension 1. (WAGON ONLY) Remove the strut cap on the quarter trim. 2. (SEDAN ONLY) Remove the bottom rear seat cushion by removing the two 12mm bolts near the floor board. 3. (SEDAN ONLY) Remove the rear seat backrest by removing the three 12mm bolts at the bottom of the cushion. You will need to slide the backrest up before you can remove it as there are 3 hooks at the top of the cushion to help retain it as well. Copyright 2012 COBB Tuning Products LLC. Make sure to support the strut when removing the last nut, as it will drop out. It is recommended to place an old magazine or similar between the strut and axle boot, so that the boot does not get torn while removing the strut. At this point, the strut may be completely removed from the car. Repeat these steps on the opposite side of the car 7. 12 8. Place the shock in a spring compressor, or similar device, and compress the spring until it relieves the tension on the upper spring perch. While compressed, remove the 17mm nut in the center of the top hat. If you do not have high speed air tools, it may be necessary to use a 6mm allen wrench inserted into the top of the strut shaft to prevent spinning while a 17mm boxed-end wrench is used on the nut. It may help to completely disassemble and reassemble one side at a time, so that you have the other side for reference. Installation of COBB Tuning Sport Springs 1. Place the shock back in the spring compressor and install the COBB Sport Springs with the same orientation as the factory springs. Reinstall the upper spring perch, washer and top hat, and torque the 17mm nut to 41 ft-lbs. 2. Reinstall the strut in the chassis and torque the three 12mm nuts on the top hat to 15 ft-lbs. 3. 13 4. Reinstall the two 19mm bottom bolts and torque them to 145 ft-lbs. 5. Finally, install the brake hose to the lower side of the strut, then insert the brake hose clip to retain it. 6.
